Thank you @Constanze . The ride should be up from here. Maybe a step forward two back but moving upward. It really helps having everyone cheer you on!:yahoo::console2::tada:

Today was a little better. Able to pick up my left foot consistently when using the walker. Muscle pains in left leg, probably waking up from all the trauma. Hope to sleep better tonight. Down to only one stool softener a day. You can guess why! Only had two breakdowns. Also known has pitiful crying jags. Planning on a shower in the morning. Tastebuds seem to have changed. I use to drink two peach crystal light teas a day, now it is all ginger ale. And of course water. My cat has taken up residence next to my leg. Smokey puts his paw on DH's hand when he massages my leg. So cute. I don't have much swelling or bruising yet. I ice all the time. I guess that is enough rambling. Just read somewhere that cats get close when someone is passing over the rainbow. Yikes. Good night all!

Just catching up with your recovery. I remember from my first hip that getting up out of the bed without the rails hard. I also remember how my arms felt like noodles. Hang in there it does get better.

@Great Aunt Janet, wonderful tip about using toddler bedrails!! I have one upstairs for when the grandkids come. Thank you!

Sunbunny, Keep getting stronger everyday!! The pity parties are the worse, I still have them quite often but keep being told they to shall pass!! I didn't think I'd ever get my operative leg in the bed by myself but like everything else.... It to will follow, I promise!!
Hugs and prayers for continue healing!!!

Re getting leg in and out of bed-my physio suggested taking the handle of my cane and hooking it over my foot, then using my arms to swing leg into bed, it works! Let me know how you get on if you try it!

@Cindy777 this is my recovery thread. My surgery was April 17. A week tomorrow.....sending calm thoughts to you. Ask any question you need, many have gone before us and they have much knowledge.

@DebraR great creative idea. I actually purchased one of those stiff leg lifter dololloys. With my knee replacements my husband made one out of a belt. At three this morning I was desperately trying to get the noodle leg back into bed and didn't want to wake DH. No luck yet, I think it might be more of a weak lower back thing. Something to ask PT tomorrow. Oh I did wake him, yikes, help arrived,

@sunbunny I have just read your thread about post-op. Sounds like you are having a bit of a rough time of it! Hope it gets better soon.

BTW, did you take the beautiful photograph which you use as your profile pic?

No it was a download. I am not sure where but wish I could feel, see, hear, smell, and even taste those lovely waves and sea air right now. Pause.....:wow:

One week ago today I was waiting in the preop area to have my hip replaced. I got about five hours sleep last night. More than the previous two days. Had a bad case of post op blues during the night. Mostly around I actually chose this misery and they get paid to do this to people and no way am I ever going through this again. So reread the mantras and decided I might be normal. Have moderate pain in hip area, rock band did not drum out on my left leg last night. Hope they get a gig somewhere else. Pt comes today but if it hurts I am not doing it. It took me two days to get over the forty minutes of huffing and puffing trying to get my left leg on the bed. I am going to try to do one normal thing today. Not sure what that might be. Having normal rollercoaster emotions. Sending hugs, thoughts, and prayers to all hippees and soon to be hippees. This too shall pass.:scare::shocked::good-bad:

This forum is SO helpful! It should be required reading! Knowing what to expect and comparing notes is exactly what I need/will need.

@sunbunny - So sorry to hear that you are still having the blues -I know I said "S...t, I hate this!" quite frequently during the first 3 weeks - especially in bed trying to move or get comfortable while struggling with pillows that wanted to move on their own. Week 4 was better and I start week 5 on Monday. It does get better but not fast enough. I sure don't want to go through this again but my "good" hip is nagging. Glad to hear the band has not been playing at night and I do hope next week is better.
Diane

@Granny Di thank you so much for your words of compassion and encouragement. Today is better. PT did not show so I called. They said company took her off and sent to someone else. She was concerned her sub did not show. He finally called and is coming at 3:00. I hope this is not a pattern. Unfortunately I timed meds for her 12:00 visit. Just venting...usually I roll with the punches. It is what it is. I do not like green eggs and ham. Lol.
I did do something normal...opened all the mail. How many calories in that activity? Anyways life is not bad, sitting in the recliner, cat in lap, natural heating pad. Utoh going to have a cat hair problem on black pants.:catbutterfly::catdance::kittymilk:Hope your day goes well.

Hi @sunbunny

Maybe you should follow @aprilc who in desperation is considering:

Just give up and lay on the couch eating chocolate and drinking wine for the rest of my life!

I am 13-14 weeks away from hip op. I never believed it would all work out but it does. When you are in the throes of early recovery it is impossible to imagine life ahead. Now that I am getting on with my life it is hard to imagine what the post op experience did to me!

Wishing you lots of little developments coz they feel really huge xx
