I do so like your altitude and aptitude in story telling. Sun lass we all say no, no never again. Then the I can do that wee gremlin creeps in and away we go like a rolling snowball. We all could say something but the pot and kettle may get tin the way. You are doing well just think in doing all if it you never thought of dragging your hip and leg around as you did a few weeks ago or before your operation.

@copsham I do believe it is s contributing factor. My neuro surgeon told me he repaired a lot of c 5 discs from teachers who bend over students. I worked on concrete floors all day. Loved every minute of it but yikes my body is the pits!

When young we think we are invincible, never thinking nor careing what we out our bodies thru, then suddenly whamo body strikes back...

Just dropping in to send some love your way! No more overdoing it. We must pace ourselves. The after pain is a good reminder to slow it down a bit. Sooooo hard to do when you just want to return to life!!!

@Granny Di and @Great Aunt Janet i agree. Seems strange not to get updated as often. I miss hearing about what is happening. I had my last PT and I can now walk without a cane and no limp unless I get really tired. I still get twinges of pain here and there. And sometimes the hip area aches not really a pain. If I overdo I seem to get either groin pain or pain on the side of the hip. Looking forward to our beach trip for two weeks in September. I still get really overtired. Sleep is up to about five hours. But gee whiz I am not a spring chicken. Although I have friends ten years older than me, they run circles compared to me. Have a good weekend! Hugs

Hi @sunbunny ,
I'm just popping round in bonesmart to say Hello to you. You sound as if you're doing great. Sorry I haven't posted for a while - I think you had surgery in the same month as me. Mine was on April 20th. I didn't get around to reading your entire thread but will do so some time - I've been back at work for a while and busy. Glad you enjoyed clothes shopping. It's so much more fun doing that without a limp & bone-on-bone pain.

So tell me, has your ban on >90°C been lifted? Life-long restrictions indeed seen ridiculous if you can do something and you're just fine afterwards. The only limits should be determined by what you think you are able to do - we are adults. We can use our common sense. ... and yes indeed, you are doing the right thing just resting for a day when you strained yourself the day before. The next day, you'll be fine and can continue whatever (sport, household, yard work, etc.) This applies to elite athletes, hobby athletes and hippies alike. Take care - enjoy yourself - best wishes from Germany, Constanze

@Constanze so sweet to check in on me! Sounds like you are doing well too. I am over the hump finally and fine tuning my recovery. Walking without cane and doing more each day. Yes, I still have the restriction and for the most part I am quite adapt at using the grabber. Three things that aggravate me the most are not being able to cut my toenails on operated leg, having to use a grabber to put on my swim shoes, and shaving my legs.. Such a process still, but these are minor disturbances, and overall I am grateful for mobility and definitely less pain. I use the golfers reach a good bit. Looking forward to our two week beach trip and hope the hurricane bears off into the Atlantic. Best wishes to you too. I think of my fellow hippees and how far we have come. Take care too and hugs, Barb

Dear Barb (@sunbunny ) ,
It's nice to read some news from you. Yes indeed, I was very surprised at my quick recovery (pain-free after 3 weeks, almost limp-free after 6), especially since I had been bone-on-bone with nasty pain and muscle atrophy for more than 6 months pre-op. I really had an excellent surgeon in an excellent hospital. What helped me get strong again was gentle exercise such as slow crawl swimming, cycling (first on an exercise bike, then on my own bike) and exercises on the machines in the gym (with an instructor of course to avoid the risk of overdoing).

Enjoy your beach holiday. May it look as sunny as on your avatar picture. Whereabouts are you going? (It's on the east coast I presume). I also hope the hurricane will bear off into the Atlantic. It's always nice to follow up how the bonesmart fellows are getting on. I've found so many friends on here since I registered - in timezones around the world.

I do hope that this 90° restriction will be lifted for you one of these days. Life long 90° - never heard of anything like that before. I understand that some things about it aggravate you like not cutting toe nails on operated leg by oneself etc. I would feel the same. But you have a sunny attitude and you take things in your stride.

Take care - Constanze

@sunbunny

So great to hear how well you're doing...couldn't happen to a nicer person and I mean this from the bottom of my heart!!!

Just wanted to send you a special thanks for all your encouragement, as well as the wise advice you have shared...it's helped a lot!

Thought you'd be happy to know I'm progressing (I know you'll "get it")........

@Cynthia777 lmbo right now. You are so funny. Second day of vacation and I can hardly move. Did too much moving in to condo, grocery shopping, and eating everything everywhere. Going to take it easy tomorrow and maybe float around in the pool. At this rate my hubby will have to ship me fedex home as I won't fit in the car! Thanks for the kind thoughts. Hugs

Have a great time. R and R sounds best idea

@Legin what have you been up to? I think about my journey buddies all the time. We may be an ocean apart but we have all held hands throughout this replacement adventure. Lol..did we ever think this would be such a roller coaster? You have had more dips than most and hope this note finds things on an upswing. Betcha you are cooking up a storm...maybe even food...such pot stirrers we all are. Vacation is coming along but it seems with family you tend to overdo. We have had a laugh though. Condo's fridge went on the blink, the door would not close and we had just put about three hundred dollars worth of food in it. So my husband and my brother in law spent about an hour trying to figure out what was wrong to no avail. Then they spent another hour using everything known to mankind trying to keep the door close, hair bands, rubber bands, clips, bungee cord, and other stuff. Of course I said just prop a chair and that in the end worked. So the next morning I called maintenance while the boys were walking on the beach. The fix it man came and said "your vegetable drawer is not pushed in." Now you have to understand that I did not load the fridge, the hubbies did. Of course the vegetable drawer is on the bottom where this girl can't reach anyways. So now this dude thinks I am such a dumb blonde (straight out of a box). Well it was a good laugh all around. So now the fixit guy is trying to keep our toilet from running all the time but I think he has left. So I continue the conversation with sister in law about yeah they are laughing at the old people in the condo who could not even close a bin to make the door close. We are yakking it up and fixit man heard it all. Now the egg is on my face. Such fun....maybe I should give him the little bottle of blue pills the last people left in the nightstand. You know they must have had a good time. Cheers my friend!

Oh Sunbunny I chortled and guffawed at your relating the events. The wiffff regularly puts things in the fridge to the point it won't close. Me I'm doing grand. Still have the CRPS thingmabob but I feel I'm getting a better hold on it thou still have some days of ow. I have a wee job assisting a chap who has dementia, he can get v frustrated and the temper can follow tho as of yet I haven't seen any. I apply the button level to him. He often struggles with doing and undoing buttons, as we all can but its how he handles it. He manages first attempt, happy chap. He struggles but perseveres, he is OK. He struggles and looks at me as if to say sheeeeesh, I help and he is OK. He struggles and perseveres but in a greater and greater more jerk and using strength, obviously getting annoyed I offer help and if ignored pick up an alternative without buttons and say shall we try this. Also at this point he needs to do something he can achieve quickly, let's make a cuppa works most times. Oooooops gone on a tad sorry. Oh still cooking fed nine this weekend, a happy chap I was family here and big chortles all round.

@sunbunny - lots of fun for you on holiday - I had a laugh picturing hair bands for door closers -but at least you got away for a change of scenery.
Hugs!

@sunbunny, always good to hear how our fellow hipsters are doing. Crazy the things that happen on vacation and it's all part of the holiday experience. What a funny story! I've been trying to catch up and it looks like we are all moving on in our own way and the recovery time line is all sooo familiar with 'bumps' here and there. Thanks for being in touch. :sneaker:

I was thinking that you were in S Carolina and maybe getting flooded out but I see you live in Cape Cod. Hope life is treating you well. We are still at the cottage and I am not ready to leave yet as it is so beautiful at the lake -lots of birds around -chickadees eating out of my hand - colourful leaves and blue skies. I have realized that an open concept cottage is not the best place for a high energy puppy. She is wearing us out! At least when we go home we will be able to block her inside the kitchen with baby gates. We hate to have her in the crate all the time but walking her just seems to give her more energy. We do not remember our other dogs being this hard to train. At least they mature quickly! :dogwalk:
