THR Spring is right around the corner

I went 4 days without....Two reasons, I was tired and afraid.
I shower daily when my leg doesn't have a big gash in it.....couldn't have cared less!
Hubby had to bribe me like a child :tantrum: I found the first couple showers post op exhausting,
nerves and fatigue came into play, but I felt like a new woman afterward :curtsey:

Spit bath :rotfl: that is hilarious!
@Walkinginthesand

Spit bath...I called it a wet mop!:chinstroke:

@Jaycey you are so correct. You have to plan EVERYTHING. Right now can’t do all I want to do so I plan out rests. Even when I head to bed I make a mental list: phone, water bottle, etc. my husband bought me a cute basket for the front of my walker. Helps keep me organized. All I need is a little bell for my wheels.

I have done sooooo well for 3 1/2 weeks and today I have hit a wall. Tears are flowing, depression (I guess), frustration and most of sleep deprivation. I CANT GET A GOOD NIGHTS SLEEP. I am so tired and weary. I only have 2 1/2 weeks of low weight bearing but this is my hard point. Done of you who have been here give suggestions. It’s funny how we take just a turn in the night yo get comfy in bed is missed. I just lay and wait for sleep to come again.

It will get better. I know it's frustrating to be so limited right now but you're more than half way through it. I have no data to back me up but my personal theory is that we go through this frustration and tears when we are starting to do better. Your mind no longer has to concentrate so much on getting past the pain and it starts to let other sensations and feelings in. If that's true, this is really a sign that you're improving! Sleep will come! I slept in a recliner for so long before my surgery that I didn't have problems sleeping in it after. Switching to my bed 10 days after surgery was hard, though. It's going to get better! You're not alone and we've all had these feelings!

Don’t know if you have an optional place to sleep like a recliner? It helped me to sleep in bed propped up a bit. Sorry you have hit that wall. I think we all do. I don’t worry so much about a specific bed time. I sleep when I can. Lots of naps. And sometimes a good cry is what we need. Tears have healing properties. You are tired, you are sore, you can’t walk normally. It would be strange if you didn’t have some of these episodes.

Oh @SaraK I hope you are right! No pain so I AM focusing on not bearing weight and all the other rules. I am frustrated. I know my doc did non-cement as a better option for me, but today I would really argue with him!

Thank you thank you @mamaT I hobble all over the house at night and “sleep” in all 3 beds, recliner and sofa. It is a scavenger hunt for my husband to find me in the morning. This too will pass, I am just a hard headed person and I can’t seem to “solve” this one.

@Layla here’s how teary I am- the flower from you made me cry! Geez. I am an ex English teacher and reader. My kindle has been well used! It goes with me throughout the night. Oh what we all take for granted- great joints (which we have fixed) and good sound sleep.

All we all know is it is not unusual for us to be night walkers. Shoot, I was having trouble sleeping pre op. While I haven’t yet had major issue this time, I certainly did last time and I would move from place to place. I realize I may yet have some bouts. Some stuff we can’t solve, it just resolves on it own.

Aww, @Walkinginthesand I'm sending you a virtual hug, you're so sweet.....now don't cry :heehee:
I'll share one of my silly post op cries. We have a bi-lateral buddy on here, thread title -gaulsurou-
Early on in recovery she polished her toenails with blue nail polish. She was so proud of the accomplishment and posted a photo. It wasn't a perfect pedi through her own admission but SHE DID IT and she was so proud of herself as she had every right to be. Well....I looked at it and started bawling :bawl: I was so proud of her and happy for her in all her beautiful pedi imperfection that I cried :heehee: I posted to her and told her and she apologized for making me cry! I think your emotions are really raw and you're sensitive and any little thing can set you off.

It's crazy. I hope you got a chuckle from the story or even another cry.
I'll cry with you :bawl:WAH, WAH, :bawl:WAH, WAH!!! Ok, d-e-e-p b-r-e-a-t-h, we're all better now!
Sending lots of love and hugs :loveshwr: :friends:

@Layla my emotions are raw. I am usually one really tough bad butt. :giggle:I have done two knees, a fractured femur and yet this hip has brought me up my emotional knees.

I shattered my femur walking down two steps into the garage, carrying my water in one hand and grandsons toy in another. I was up and then I wasn’t. Oops.

It's okay! Hubby used to get me laughing while in the throes of one of my
silly crying jags. Most often for no good reason :heehee: It's all temporary PTL!!
Hope you have a cozy peaceful night....
@Walkinginthesand

Aaah! That is awful about your femur....so sorry! Must have been painful

I have another question: my incision site is still really swollen. Had surgery on January 17- 4 weeks on Wednesday. In my yoga pants it is visible. Will it go away soon or is this my new back pocket companion?

Yes it was! I had JUST RETIRED so had to sit for 5 months. Whew. The part I started crying was when the fireman told me he had to cut off my jeans; he hoped they weren’t my favorite. I said, “oh they are!!!!”
