THR Spring is right around the corner

Hi @Walkinginthesand
You deserve so much more than the gummy bears and chocolates you quoted elsewhere,
I'll have my hubby mail instructions :heehee:

Six weeks of non weight bearing seems long. Hopefully it passes quickly.
When you're once again able to do the things you love, hiking, walking the dog and gardening
this time will be but a blip on the screen.
All the best as you continue to heal!

Hi @walknginthesand. Yes, I had groin pain too. It was after the in home pt. I contacted my os and he said that is normal to have groin pain after the anterior approach. He said to cut back the exercises, ice, and elevate. It went away. I was really concerned because that was my main complaint before surgery. I am 8 weeks out and the pain is gone! I am going to pt 2x per week and no pain. I’m telling you this for encouragement. Take it easy on the pt. and ice and elevate!

Happy Wednesday!
That's some sound advice from Lucinda, derived through experience.
I'm all for icing and light on the PT....worked for me too.
Hope your day is good!
@Walkinginthesand

Staples out today!!!!! Things are great. Only thing, I have only used commode and never raised toilet set. Ditched commode a long bit ago. Does not hurt using regular seat- I am only five feet tall. Should I get one? Doctor mentioned that is still a restriction. Ooppps

I was feeling very cocky after doctor appointment and staples out. He told me I was doing exceptionally well. Walked too much, and more- tonight I am very sore and very disappointed. I wanted to be better than I really am - only 2 weeks out- I wanted to be WELL. Tomorrow is a new day and I begin again. It is kind of a roller coaster of pain, discomfort and emotions. I wanted to go see my daughter, just 15 minutes away, but I think I would really pay! Need to slow down.

Yes you do. But good for you to know this! 2 weeks is nothing at all.
Think of all they've done, and how you are aggravating it before it's ready to go.
Many, including myself, have hit the ODIC (OverDid It Club) trying out these new hips. Only thing we can do is slow down, Ice, and Rest it ...you will get there.

Don't get discouraged, it really is very early days.:console2: Temporary.

Slowing down is a good thing @Walkinginthesand. We get that initial rush from feeling relief from pre surgical pain and post op pain and want to make up for lost time. Recovery is a rollercoaster. You are right that today is a new day. You begin again and will continue to improve. Recovery is a process not an event.

Have a good weekend.

Lesson learnt as they say. I know how tempting it is to push yourself too far when you feel great and are impatient with your recovery. But it really isn’t worth it. I remember someone on this site that it took a long time for our hips to get to the state of needing a replacement so we shouldn’t be surprised that recovery takes time.

Rest, ice and elevate as often as you can it really is the best aid to recovery :ice:

Hi @Walkinginthesand
Thankfully you realized the effects of being overly ambitious early on.
It will benefit you in the long run. At only two and a half weeks post op
you still have months of healing to take place.

Please don't be discouraged. We've all been there, to different degrees.
It's easy to overdo when we're feeling good and understandable to want things "normal" again.
You've learned a valuable lesson.
Hope you're feeling better today and that your weekend is great!

Lesson learned. Slow and easy and I will get back to normal soon. KC is expecting a lot of snow on Tuesday. When the world has to slow down I think it will be easier for me also. Sit and watch the snow fall with hot tea and a blanket.

Terrific plan @Walkinginthesand. I’m keeping my eye on the weather. We are getting a bit in my part of ohio tomorrow, clear Monday then some sort of snow Tuesday and Wednesday. Hoping we don’t get much, but if we are going to get hit, really hope to get home before then.

What part of KC are you in? I'm originally from Richmond MO - NE of KC.

It is 10 pm and I am exhausted. One daughter brought two grandsons over to play. So nice to see the boys and chat and play. But only 17 days out of surgery and my energy just leaves all at once. Anybody else see this. Night all- to bed I go.

The energy drain is experienced by most of us.
I noticed you are waiting to receive your copy of the recovery recommendations, be sure to read about the energy drain.

Here are the recovery guidelines, the articles are short and will not take long to read.

Hip Recovery: The Guidelines

1. Don’t worry: Your body will heal all by itself. Relax, let it, don't try and hurry it, don’t worry about any symptoms now, they are almost certainly temporary
2. Control discomfort:
rest
elevate
ice
take your pain meds by prescription schedule (not when pain starts!)
3. Do what you want to do BUT
a. If it hurts, don't do it and don't allow anyone - especially a physical therapist - to do it to you
b. If your leg swells more or gets stiffer in the 24 hours after doing it, don't do it again.
4. PT or exercise can be useful BUT take note of these
5. At week 4 and after you should follow this

Sleep deprivation is pretty much inevitable - but what causes it?

BIG TIP: Hips actually don't need any exercise to get better. They do a pretty good job of it all on their own if given half a chance. Trouble is, people don't give them a chance and end up with all sorts of aches and pains and sore spots. All they need is the best therapy which is walking and even then not to excess.

We try to keep the forum a positive and safe place for our members to talk about their questions or concerns and to report successes with their joint replacement surgery. While members may create as many threads as they like in a majority of BoneSmart's forums, we ask that each member have only one recovery thread. This policy makes it easier to go back and review history before providing advice.

Energy drain perfectly normal @Walkinginthesand. You will be feeling pretty good and then hit the wall and have complete exhaustion. That’s why returning to work is more than just how the hip is doing, it’s how our whole body is doing.

Glad you got to spend time with grandsons. Wait until this summer and you will really have fun with them.

Have a restful Sunday.

Hi there,
I can relate. I recall Day 12 post op. It was a weekend and a number of my family members stopped over for an impromptu BBQ. I was also walking around our home with my cane for the first time and made many laps around the house trying to get comfortable with it. That coupled with the excitement of the day and I was so wiped out at night and I believe even the next day. It IS the good old Energy Drain, as referenced in the Recovery Article above that Pumpkln left for you. It's real, it's all part of recovery. Hopefully after a nights sleep you're feeling better today. A great week to you!
@Walkinginthesand

I am having another odd occurrence; Wondering if any of you have experienced. It is now 3 weeks post op and have awaken several night drenched in sweat. EVERYTHING is wet!!!! I have diabetes and sugars and running a bit high with stress and surgery. Anyone else have this? What is it from???!

I am also feeling first signs of post op depression. Life is closing in and I feel helpless. NOT my normal mindset.
