THR Spring is right around the corner

@Walkinginthesand So sorry you are feeling down. All part of this recovery I am afraid. Meds, lack of sleep and just frustration at not moving as you normally do all contribute. The good news is this eases fairly quickly.

Look back at the start of your recovery thread and see just how far you have come. Watch a funny or favorite movie. This too shall pass.

I'll leave this article here for you to review again. Post op blues is a reality - be prepared for it

Depression is a real and somewhat common side effect... Mine started at about week six but has abated... Lean on your support team and the folks here on the forum. Still early days for you. Seems like a long time when you are living it but when you look back months from now it will be a blip on the radar... Time helps, this will pass, one day at a time...

@Walkinginthesand I feel for you. I was near total despair on Saturday and not much better on Sunday (my husband made me sit, although I was comfy, and RELAX). I just want to be normal. I just want to move on. I am or was a very active person.

I have been at work the last two days and my attitude changed. I am needed and people have been very helpful. My job is normally 50/50 walking and sitting. I am sitting obviously, but my mind is working and I have distractions. My PA did not say NO to coming to work, she knew I was determined...she could see it in my eyes and I did it last time. Working from home, which is most people's dream, just is not for me. Since I got back, all the drama that happens daily at our silly little airport and with its tenants has been a welcome diversion for me. Normally it irritates me, but I am embracing it.

If there is anything I can do to help, let me know. I totally understand how you feel.

Time to plan an outing @Walkinginthesand ! For me, the best way to keep the blues at bay was to open my horizons and not let the 4 walls start closing in. Maybe going out to dinner or going to the mall (Independence Center probably has a scooter you can use so that you don't even have to walk much) or go see your daughter who lives fairly close. The outing doesn't even have to be today - just planning it and knowing it's coming up can help! Post op blues are normal - know that you WILL get past them! Hugs!

You guys are so appreciated. Everything you say is 100% true. I am having trouble with needing so much help (still only 10% weight bearing), things taking forever and constantly concerned about doing things “correctly”.

Just knowing you felt the same makes me feel better. I am just tired from blood thinners and not sleeping. Tough to be concerned all the time that I am staying within 10% weight bearing. I am retired but used to going all the time. Difficult to sit. My husband of 44 years is AMAZING but it is tough to watch him work so hard. Just a tough day. Thank you sooooooo much.

@Walkinginthesand I can't even imagine not being weight bearing...or just a little bit weight bearing. I feel very silly with my depression, but I really couldn't overcome it over the weekend, even with the sunshine. I am tired of being tired. I think Thursday is my last blood thinner...blessedly and I'm down to Tylonal and a muscle relaxer at night.

Like you, my husband (42 years on the 17th) has been over the top amazing. He has cooked, cleaned, changed sheets on two beds weekly (he gave me the big bed and is sleeping the in the guest room), grocery shopped and still is working all day and caring for me at night. Prior to the last THR he even handled my dog for me at a competition when I completely broke down...he had NO idea what he was doing, yet he did it!

My heart is here for you. :) :-) (:

@Poodles, I am sitting here in tears. Your post is so filled with my emotions. EVERYTHING. Tired, feeling helpless, gratitude beyond measure- all of it. I taught for 30 years and now showering and even walking is a chore. I stand on one leg, balance with my toe and take a shower. Then I dry my hair and am exhausted. It just got to me today. Thank you so much for understanding and taking the time to write back. People get us. through.

Hi @Walkinginthesand
I'm sorry to hear you're feeling down. My heart goes out to you.
So many have been where you are and truly it will pass.
You're half way through your six weeks of non weight bearing. It may not feel like it, but that's a positive!

I'm wondering if your days are full enough. Consider switching up your routine a bit. Maybe visit your daughter as you mentioned. Invite a friend over for lunch, or call friends or family and visit over the phone.
Watch a movie on tv, or series on Netflix if you have access. Work on a puzzle or buy an adult coloring book and some new colored pencils to use while listening to relaxation music. If you have the energy to get out of the house, go somewhere easy or just for a car ride. I'll bet you're bored and frustrated and finding distractions will help greatly. Push yourself even if you're not feeling like it. Each time you force yourself to engage it will likely become easier and easier. Hang in there, it will get better. Hope you're sleeping well....
Prayers for brighter days!

@Walkinginthesand So many of us do understand. The month before my first THR was the worst time of my life. No sleep, couldn't eat and lost a lot of weight (hmmm a benefit?), cried a lot, no socializing. I honestly didn't know how I would get through it.

Sure wish you were closer! A teacher! Wow, that is just fabulous. Someone who has made a difference in our world. That is special. What did you teach?

You made me smile with the shower/hair drying story. I certainly get that. My normal routine would be to get up at 6, shower, put on makeup, do my hair, get dressed and be downstairs at 6:30, eat breakfast and get in the car and drive to the office on a beautiful country highway arriving at 7:30. Second day back to the office I got up at 6, did my thing...husband came up to help me get socks and shoes on...and downstairs just before 7! AND I was exhausted...and sweaty. Got to the office just before 8. What the heck? I am so over this, but I see the light at the end of the tunnel and I keep setting little goals for myself.

How long do you need to be non-weight bearing?

@Layla Coloring! I did do some coloring. I got an adult coloring book that my husband found of poodles on Amazon. Of course. I got colored pencils, turned on some classic rock (loud as I was home alone) and colored away my day. I gotta say it was relaxing!

@Lala- I think it is time to push. Not sleeping at night left me tired an so ready for a nap! I will get my coloring out. Good idea. I have read a lot and watched a lot of TV. I AM 10% weight bearing for 3 more weeks. Because of the weight bearing limitations make steps tenuous for me. I need to let husband give me support and GET OUT!!!! Will try tomorrow. Thank you guys. Really- thanks

Hi @Walkinginthesand I think when the blues wash over you and @Poodles the best thing is to give into them, let it all out, wallow and have a good cry. Then you can begin to pick yourself up and start finding positives in your recovery. Like @Layla says you’re already half way through your weight restrictions. You both are blessed with supportive husbands. Lean on them for awhile, I have no doubt that they’ve leaned on you over the years. But most importantly the blues are just passing through and a brighter future awaits :flwrysmile:

You are healing...and it takes alot out of us...it does feel tough to feel dependant and needy, but my dear husband was a huge support for me also and I know there may be a time I will be there for him in the same way. Actually, I worked just as hard "getting him well" from a a bout with the flu two years ago.
What a baby:heehee:
Fresh air is definitely in order.
This too shall pass...hope you have a Good Day today.
We fake it until we make it!

Weight restrictions just stink. Had them with torn labrum repair in 2009. Some of the worst blues i ever got. i hated asking others for help. Then when I could go back to weight bearing, was afraid of trusting leg. Did some pt for that.

You are half away through. As others have said, it’s ok to have a cry. Just keep looking ahead to the end and you will make it.

@Poodles I taught high school English and LOVED it. Those kids are amazing. This morning the sun is shining, I slept and things seem manageable. I am headed to my Olympic event-a shower and shampoo but do not expect to medal! I could not get comfortable last night until about midnight, do mentally went through books on my “to read” list and downloaded a new one this morning. Thanks for letting me weep on your shoulder last night.

Glad you feel some better.
Healing hugs!

Hi @Walkinginthesand
Hope you got through that shower yesterday like a champ.
The first few can wear you out, but it's a good fatigue.
Afterward, you want to nestle into bed, or your recliner
and take a nap in all your fresh, clean loveliness. W-E-I-R-D-O....I know.
Update us when you're able....Love and healing hugs coming your way :friends: :loveshwr:

@Walkinginthesand this recovery can get so tedious at times. All the meds and the restrictions, having to plan your every move. Then there is the frustration that the mind says go and the body just can't yet. The good news is all this will pass. Once you get beyond the weight bearing restriction you will feel a whole lot better. Just a bit more patience and you'll be there.

@ Layla you are not a weirdo. It is obvious you have done all the post surgery stuff! Just standing under the warm water is heaven. My surgeon is so demanding that there was NO SHOWER ONLY SPIT BATH FOR TWO WEEKS. Yuck.
