zauberflöte,ByGosh, Peaches,LeeApril26 She Wee by a different name but same thing

Peaches Well done for getting on and off the bus. Another milestone passed. And as LeeApril26 pointed out -you sat on a low seat and pulled yourself off again . you'll have no problems with the loo.
LeeApril26 As you come closer to the 6 weeks, you'll find yourself automatically breaking the restrictions more and more without noticing . Im 7 weeks tomorrow - I havent had to use the grabber since last week to get dressed and can put my socks on normally. Cant cut my toe nails yet though, but I dont think Im far off it.

Elosarabrab TeeEm I think the letter in the name is both an i and an e. Tricky, tricky..They don't want to offend, but want us to get the idea...
Elosarabrab My one big question about that uniquely shaped contraption is this -- is the pointy end open or closed? I sure hope it's closed, or that could be a problem! Unless they expect one to be standing over the loo while performing!??

TeeEm, I agree with what you said - as time goes on, I think the restrictions sort of relax naturally as we get stronger and as we heal. That happened with me with the first hip, and this time.... I reach down to pick a piece of asparagus from my garden the other day and only afterward thought, "Argh! I reached way down almost to the ground...!"
And I've been visiting my mother in the rehab facility and sitting in a regular chair. It does have arms for "pushing up" when it's time to leave.
I have never seen these female urinal thingies! I don't know whether to cheer or......?
LeeApril26, I have to admit ... I went for a pedicure the other day, with a friend. I asked for a particularly gentle person, and she was so sweet; she kept stopping and asking me, "You OK now...?" But, WOW, the lotions and scrubbing (between the toes! Wow, I HATE not being able to reach between my toes in the morning shower!) and I picked a lovely springy orangey-pink for my toes for the holiday weekend.... and then the weather got cold and I wore wool socks and heavy shoes! :umm:
Peaches, of course you know what the ladies' room is like at your work. But as mentioned above, the height isn't as worrisome for me as having something to grab onto to pull myself up (you did prove that on the bus, and hopefully you'll only get better as time goes on!) For years leading up to my first hip surgery I couldn't get off the "throne" without grabbing hold of something to pull myself up, because I had so little ROM in my hip (which made me move as if I were following precautions.) It's sure an issue. Sigh; there must be an answer....!

Songlady. The pedicure sounds delicious. If my precautions are lifted on Monday, I may follow your lead. Surely we will be able to leave off socks soon???? I was concerned about potential infection but my OS's physician's assistant said it is okay to get pedicures. I'm happy to hear you can sit in a regular chair. Have been concerned that I might not have the muscle strength as I also had a hard time pre-surgery.

Hi LeeApril26, I am sitting in regular chairs IF they have arms for pushing out of! Also, I did get the OK to leave off the socks. I had a lot less swelling with this surgery, so my OS told me I could ditch them. :-) Also, I am walking enough to keep the ol' blood flowing.....!:bicycle1:
Last surgery, I asked Josephine all kinds of questions before I went for a pedicure. I wonder what a search in BS would show for previous discussions?
Let me say, that pedicure was as good for my soul as it was for my toes!

Peaches, you had asked sharonslp for these exercises, and she had tagged me with them - so here they are:

1. Lying in bed turn the feet outwards and moved, them slowly inwards rotating the whole leg.
2. Move the feet up and down as if pushing down on pedals.
3. Butt clenches.
4. Roll up a small towel, place it under one knee at a time and push down hard.
5.Raise left knee and using left leg and shoulder, lift butt as far off the mattress as possible. (Or right...whichever is opposite your operated hip. Or both, if you're far enough along.)

Songlady The only thing I bought in preparation which is being used as planned is a "shower feet" contraption that is SCRUMPTIOUS!!!!!!! Like a Dr Scholls sandal only the hoop is very high, and all covered with long soft tickley brushes coming up from the sole and down from the hoop. I have been too tired to shower as I ought, but when I do this thing actually cleans my feet better than a washcloth. It will become moldy in my shower and have to be chucked, so I'd better use it with glee while I can :) I bought a leg-puller-upper, still in box. I bought a white foam roll (to replace the one I gave away when we moved in '07) which is currently a bolster by day and a foot-of-bed cover-raiser by night, and an expensive elevating shaped cushion which seems to have caused more swelling than it prevented. Soon as I stopped using it the swelling abated some... go figure!

zauberflöte - wow, I should look for a foot scrubber like that! I have the sock puller-upper, and it works great if the socks are sort of loose, otherwise I can't seem to get them on right.
Do you have grabbers? I must say, last time I had a great one - I could actually pick up pills, dimes whatever! lol By now the string on one has loosened, and the string on the one I fixed isn't all that tight, so I can't amuse myself dropping small objects and picking them up to help the days pass..... :rofsign:

Songlady right, I did get a kit from the hospital, grabber, sock puller-upper (would destroy the delicate merino socks I did wear in our cold spell) and probably something else. Oh maybe a panty-puller-upper. And a long handled shoe horn. I have the grabber nearby, but it's quite cheap-- no entertainment value there:heehee: I may have tried it, but now don't remember if I did or not!
[Bonesmart.org] Sometimes peachy, sometimes the pits
This is what I have! Only no pumice and scrubbier brushes. :)

zauberflöte - I love the "easyfeet" - !! lol!!
I have gotten pretty good at using the long shoehorn to get on my sneakers (the ones I had put elastic shoelaces into - I leave'em tied): long shoehorn for the heel, and then I use the grabber to pull the tongue of the shoe straight if it starts to get bunched. My husband watches in.... amazement? Horror? Amusement? :rotfl: I dunno.... he just watches.....

Songlady, zauberflöte the picture is pretty much what I have including the pumice. I use it regularly I do find it needs the underside scrubbed and rinsed then left to dry or it gets a bit ikky.
I have 2 grabbers one upstairs one downstairs. I use them a lot. I do break the 90 degree rule by bending but haven't had any bad effects.
The sock aid I got is useless. The plastic is too soft where you put the sock over so it squashes not allowing room to put over foot.
Hardly ever use shoe horn.
V shaped pillow I use to prop myself up at night with my back rest.
ByGosh Peaches the she wee is like a funnel so open. The ones that work best have an additional pipe on the end so you use it standing up and direct the flow away from you like men do. The item as is isn't long enough to do that so you get wet :eeeuw:

Songlady, that is exactly how I put on my sneakers, too. The tongue loves to get and stay bunched. The elastic laces don't always stay tied anymore. I can only wear sneakers--bought for post-op, so I wouldn't be wearing old shoes with my old, pre-op gait. I don't feel stable in other shoes. Flats like flip flops make me worry my wonky knee will get worse. Someone mentioned something about socks, and I don't think they meant those horrible TED socks. I was not told I had to wear socks at all (meaning, regular socks), so for a while I was not wearing them. Was that a no-no? I am now wearing them. I bought a regular long-handled brush for scrubbing your back and I soap her up and throw it on the bathtub floor and schooch my feet all over it to get them clean. Works well. Now if I could just cut my toenails! I bend over more than I used to, but I still don't break the 90-rule. .... THANK YOU for sending the exercises I asked Sharon to send. Those are almost exactly like the ones I have been doing since I left the hospital. I do them three times a day and have upped the reps. They have not relieved my lower back pain at all. I do a few more standing up and sitting in a chair. That's all the PT, except for a couple more, my PT has given me.
I will have to sign out now and will come back later....... Hope all has a good day.

But I hear somewhere in New York State there was a snowstorm. Not just a few flakes, either
Yes Peaches that was up north Whiteface Mountain not far from Lake Placid. No I am no where near there probably a 5 hour drive for me. I use to go camping near there years ago. Beautiful countryside, they are the Adirondack Mountain.

Hi @Peaches- wow, stepping on the brush to clean your feet! How smart! I will do that tomorrow. I have tied my brush to the shower controls so I can fetch it when I drop it, but it never occurred to me to use it while it was down! Whaoo! I will do so tomorrow.
This surgery (not last time, my OS seems to be trying something different) I was told to west a compression stocking on the operated leg foot to knee. My husband had to out it on me, since the sock aid didn't work on something that tight.
I was told I could leave it off at my 2 week appt. Since then, I have only worn socks because it was so darned cold!
In fact, I have worn flip flops around the house - not the "dime store" variety, but my thick-soled, molded-foot fancy athletic store ones.
Toenails.... yes, an issue.......Hmmmmmmm
