THR So I walked out on my PT...

@Teresa17 I don't have the link, I just found it when googling one day. Pre-op I really didn't want to see how they did it.

A cautionary tale: After about six PT sessions, with several left to go, I finally walked out on my physical therapist. I've had PT before and recognize the need to exert yourself and make muscles work, but as an athlete I also know how to listen to my body when it says "enough". Physical therapist was just too aggressive with his manipulations of my left THR occasionally making the entire leg spasm. And when I said something was uncomfortable it seems he just wasn't listening. Forget that. Half way through (what turned out to be) the last session with him, with me being on the verge of tears due to discomfort (and I don't cry easily), I got off the exercise table, told him I was calling it a day, got my jacket, and walked out. Haven't been back and not planning to. So, am now doing gradual strength and flexibility exercises at home and walking. Not going to push myself. Am getting there and really glad I got up and left that PT office when I did.

@DE55,
It can be hard to walk out like that, kudos for taking charge and leaving!
Hips do fine with the activity and walking you do around your house and in the community as you heal.

You'll notice that I have merged your newest thread with your original recovery thread. For several reasons, we prefer that you only have one recovery thread:
  • That way, we have all your information in one place. This makes it easier to go back and review your history before providing advice.
  • If you keep starting new threads, you miss the posts and advice others have left for you in the old threads, and some information may be unnecessarily repeated
  • Having only one thread will act as a diary of your progress that you can look back on.
So please post any updates, questions or concerns about your recovery here. If you prefer a different thread title, just post what you want and we'll get it changed for you.
If you need an urgent response to a question, just tag a member of staff.

Many members bookmark their thread in their computer browser, so they can find it when they log on.
How can I find my threads and posts?

@DE55 Congratulations on walking out of PT. Many don't stand up to their methods and many push the no pain no gain theory. Since you're and athlete you know that does work with a healthy body but not with a recovering one. Back to the stretched muscles and allowing them time. You know your body and you can do your own PT doing it sensibly.

No matter how knowledgeable professional your PT is , they can't tell you 100% the pain is beyond the pale. I'm sure they are trying their best but within limits , well done for trusting your own feelings ,which can take a lot of bottle sometimes.My surgeon ( and Bonesmart)said take it slowly easy and I am ,a bit frustrating but hopefully I won't make matters worse. Good luck
