THR Snickers has a brand new hip!!<

Thanks for the confirmation, seems the recommended post surgery approach differs cross OS / region. I was also curious because we live in a regular house with upstairs bedrooms, bathrooms etc, hence I will need to navigate the stairs when home despite the no/limited weight bearing advice. I'm sure I will be taught the correct technique for doing so, but it still makes me wonder how it will work in reality. :)

I also have a house with a walkout basement...upstairs and downstairs. I have 4 steps to get into my house from the driveway. My first PT session in the hospital, they taught me how to go up and down those 4 steps using the walker. I agree about different OS's using different precautions...kinda makes it confusing. I would just go with what your OS says to do. I know how the waiting is and how nervous you can get, but I promise that is all in your head and you will do great!

Yup - it's all over the place! Literally every surgeon has a different approach. PT in hospital will teach you everything you need to know about moving around on your own post op. Worry not!

@snickers How are you doing?

I'm doing fantastic....I've learned to sleep with that dang pillow between my knees, using tylenol PM and some lavender oil in a diffuser at bedtime and sleeping like a baby. Hip is super stable and feels fantastic. Just need time to let it all heal up!

@snickers don't you love that "super stable" feeling? I didn't get it the first time round, but this one did, so I know what you mean. And soooo glad you've figured out a good way to sleep. I have to laugh-- I sleep with a pillow between my knees because my knees pressing against one another hurt so much, pills or no, that I can't sleep! Pillow solves all, although the bed does look fairly lumpy when I make it :heehee:

Snickers :tantrum2: I was going to kinda lecture you on no pillows then I read this...whew...So Tylonal PM and lavander oil really work... I um take Xanax to sleep for now...it's not the pillows for me it's this crazy post surgery syndrome regarding sleep....I hope hubby still feels like BBQ as it's near 7 PM lol and I'm in car in front of Kroger's.

We did Walmart earlier.

I gotta ask why go up steps backwards??? To work different muscles?????

Healing hugs:praying:me

Yep....gonna follow all the rules. I have no idea about the going upstairs backwards...my wife tried it and had a hard time without bending her upper body! Think I will tell the PT nope on the backwards stairs......

I don't think there is anything wrong with the walking backwards up stairs... I just wonder why like what muscles it may work. @snickers My obliques (sp) could use more work but it's too early on hip 2. I think it would be very hard to do for anyone. I think before arthritis I may not have been able to do it... I kickboxed my way to almost normal weight.

I do not follow ALL the rules but the 90 degree gig and pillow **** I do believe me hip One... I had a huge scare of them having to redo it.... I had to see PA and doctor to double check they got all the blood out of a hematoma aspirated.... I learned by that not to risk a redo. Meds **** like that I play loose with but not crossing the midline and no abduction YET. Thus, I use my stupid pillows and take drugs. I only nag on the 2 rules I am a fanatic on :yes!::dancy::happydance::flwrysmile:

BTW no BBQ tonight...whine. I did mean to ask you @snickers to please ask your wife where she got the lavender and diffuser?? Thanks ahead... I gotta go do the dishes ugh

She got the diffuser and lavender oil at walmart I believe. I talked her into sushi tonight and we brought it home and yes it was GOOD!

Did you now read this: Hips actually don't need any exercise to get better. They do a pretty good job of it all on their own if given half a chance. Trouble is, people don't give them a chance and end up with all sorts of aches and pains and sore spots. All they need is the best therapy which is walking and even then not to excess.

I think it's a totally daft, unnecessary and maybe even dangerous activity! But then I think that about most of these exercises!! :no-fin:

It's unnecessary to quote a post just to reply to it. Just scoot on down to the bottom of the page and start typing! Unless there is some specific phrase you want to address, of course - like I just did! Then do it like this How to quote a post.

Thanks for understanding! :)

@Josephine...yes I read that article. But you know what..my hip feels so much better the day after I do the bike riding and "some" of the PT exercises. Just riding the bike for 10 minutes per day and walking about a half mile once a day along with minor walking around the house and seems to really make everything feel good.

I think you may have misread my advice not to do exercises as 'do nothing'! But did you also miss the bit "All they need is the best therapy which is walking and even then not to excess." which is exactly what you are doing! So well done you because you have just the kind of experience there that I love to hear about!

@snickers wanted to stop in to say hi. I read your thread and you are doing awesome. My surgery was the 12th and this is my second hip too. I have the 90 degree restrictions too but I have not had to use the special pillow. If I lay on my side I use a pillow between my legs but that is the only time. But I don't cross my legs in my sleep. You have really been busy, I have not tried a lot of the things you have yet, I guess if anything I am being a little overcautious. Will check back in to see how things are going.
