My pain med regimen has changed a bit. Still one vicodin before bed. Two tramadol first thing in the morning (I keep trying to cut it to one, but it just doesn't work. An hour later, I end up taking the second.)

Hi Sharon,

Maybe you've already tried this but, what about cutting one of the tramadol in half and taking 1 and 1/2 in the morning for a while.

Thank you for your support on my mid-life quagmire. Tomorrow is the first day back to school for the two remaining kids at home -- always been a traumatic day for me whether they were being homeschooled or now in their public institutions. I'm going to get my hair cut and try to be gentle to myself. Mid-life seems to be banging hard on my door... I've contemplated offering to volunteer at the law office of a wonderful family lawyer that I worked with sporadically before I had kids and really admired. Maybe she'd have some use for me and maybe that would help to stimulate my brain into gear.

You have an amazing amount of energy & I'm glad to hear that your recent check-up went well and you have so many trips planned.

Take care,
Cardie

Busy days for you now Sharon, but it is for something that you have a passion for - wonderful :)

Sharon, when you feel up to it- I miss WWF with you! Start a game with me, please!

Hi Sharon, just dropped by to see how the study is going and most importantly you ?

Hi all. This is a short update, because really there's nothing much new to report. I'm at 11 weeks now, and recovery continues to go as it is supposed to. I have cut down my pain meds to one-half of a vicodin at night (I tried one night without taking any, and it was not a successful event!), and one Celebrex in the morning. I have a trip to see grandchildren in Denver in two weeks, so I plan to stay on the Celebrex through that, and then see if I'm ready to wean off. I wish my stomach would let me tolerate Tylenol or ibuprofen, because that's probably all I really need at this point.

My classes are interesting, as usual, but I don't feel like I am at my sharpest yet. Part of that is due to catching some respiratory thing that has had me cough cough coughing for the last 11 days. Coughing and lots of drainage, but no other cold or flu symptoms. I'm quite sure it's not an allergy either. At any rate, it is sapping my energy, and disturbing my sleep, so I finally called my doctor today and they are fitting me in.

Because of the cough, I missed the first contradance of the season last weekend, so I didn't get to test out my hardware. Mid-October will be my dancing debut....I need to start building up stamina, but right now exertion gets me cough cough coughing.

So...cough....I'll report back after...cough...that dance event and regale....cough....you all with tales of....cough....my astonishing pain free hips....cough....I hope. :)

Sharon

Just checking in on you and wanting to thank you for a great "knowing" laugh when reading the description of your walk on foresbys page. I thought of it many times on my own walk today :) glad things are progressing as they should for you but sorry about the cough. Hopefully you will get things under control before your trip, which sounds wonderful.

I certainly wish I could always feel as I look on my avatar. I will settle for some of the time for now haha. I also wish i still actually looked so trim, another haha, though i am working on that too. Thanks for all your positivity on the thread. Your wisdom in how you approach life is good for me to see.

Continued good luck with your classes, cathy

Ack, I hope you feel better and don't have pertussis. We had a round of that here over the spring and thru the summer. It's an odd bug as you don't at all feel sick, just cough your brains out... hopefully you'll get cultured.

Glad your hips are doing well & hope you are back to dance and better stamina soon.
Take care,
Cardie

Thanks Cardie. She didn't think it was pertussis, and my lungs are clear, and really it's just a chest cold with a lot of drainage that is likely brewing up an infection, so she felt it was appropriate to start an antibiotic. But we did discuss pertussis and the fact that I really should get a booster, but not this visit because of the cold.

I have that same cough thing. I'm only on my 8th day though. I'm not pleased to hear that you are still dealing with this at day 11. Feel better soon, okay? :)

My doc didn't think I had pertussis either and she didn't have access to the culture materials or the ability to send me someplace (it was 4:30 on a Friday), so she just gave me the Z pack (Azythromycin). My lungs were clear as well.

It wasn't until the next week when I took one of the kids to the pediatrician, where they actually stock swabs for these issues... She didn't think my kid had pertussis either, until the culture came back positive 4 days later -- then all 3 kids went on the Z pack too. The Z pack, or whatever anti-bio your doc put you on will keep you from being contagious if it was pertussis, it doesn't do much for helping the symptoms abate.

Take care,
Cardie

Wahoo! Sharon is a Forum Advisor!

Just had to come visit your thread Sharon to congratulate you here, as well!!

Sending hugs and love [Bonesmart.org] Sharon's Anniversary Waltz

Hi Sharon, glad you updated. I had been wondering how you were doing with the hip. I had assumed no news was good news, but it's good to see it confirmed. :-)

Sorry about the coughing. I hope that resolves soon. Things like that are just so nagging and frustrating.

Dorothy

Hope you are feeling better since your last post and that the antibiotics helped. Congrats on the forum advisor. You really are a great person for me to have on the site. Your attitude is one I aspire to. cathy

Thanks all. I spent five days with the Z-pak (azithromycin), and I think I am definitely on the recovery side. Coughing is down to occasional, the drainage is down to occasional. I am finally getting decent sleep again. Whew...I was getting a bit worried. But this weekend was delightful...good time with friends and family. Plus spent some time planning a bucket list trip....a cruise and land tour in Alaska next summer. I've been trying to talk my SO into this for several years, and it's finally going to be a reality.

@Cmac; I do wish I had insisted on culturing for Pertussis, just to be safe. I think I dodged the bullet this time, but I will be getting my vaccination for tetanus and pertussis updated when I go in for my Welcome To Medicare physical soon. Yep....65th birthday coming up shortly. Yikes!!

alexthecat; I hope you're over the worst too. If not....what are you doing about it?

Totally tickled to have been awarded a forum advisor badge. Such a safe and comfy place this forum is. :)

Sharon

Hi Sharon

So pleased you are on the road to recovery..

Love your travel plans.

Hi Sharon! My cough has mostly resolved. It still pops up once in a while at the gym, if I'm pushing really hard, but I'm back to my regular workout schedule, so I'm good. :dancy:

Here in Australia, during winter, a friend of mine who is a GP, said in the medical circles, they called it the 100 day cough!

Feel better soon Sharon and alexthecat;

You would know if you had pertussis, it is a cough like you have NEVER had in your entire life, and yes it's 100 days plus -- easily!! Definitely get the Dtap and I guess it's every 5-6 years vs. the 10 year recommendation on the tetnus. I only ever worried about tetnus, now I've learned through experience...

Awesome news on the Forum Advisor title, Sharon. You've joined an elite and knowledgeable circle :thumb:

Your bucket list cruise sounds like a fun adventure and how nice that you have your two shiny new hips to take you around!!

Take care,
Cardie

Hi Sharon

The acronym FINE came from the movie 'The Italian Job' with Donald Sutherland and Mark Wahlberg..

Has your cough gone and are you feeling better?
