*waves hello*

Just finished reading your whole thread and am so impressed!

Thank you so much for sharing your hip replacement journey. I'm just recovering from my right THR and know I'll be facing the same on the left side eventually. You're an inspiration Dave!

Happy New Year Dave, may 2012 be kind to all of us, so that we may enjoy the miracles we were given in 2011 xx

Hi Dave

Just checking in with you, how are you going ?

Sandy

Thanks for checking in.

I've just started checking everyones threads on here and wow there is a lot of activity these days! I wonder how many posts there have been in the last week? Bonesmart is a real community and a real bunch of cyber friends where we can share both the ups and downs.

I feel I am doing really well at 11 weeks since the second op

Still a few relatively minor aches and pains around the newest hip but the range of motion and the strength is really improving.

The pleasure of being able to walk (striding out) normally without stiffness, pain and a limp, I am finding to be fantastic. I almost get emotional at times!

You will see the real benefit when you have your second hip done - it really is well worth it. I didn't feel quite the same after the first hip as the second one was on the downward path.

Sandy, you are really careing person who has time for everyone and your posts from Oz and your sense of humour are just - majic.

All the best

Dave

Hey Dave

So pleased that you are seeing the benefits of your new twin hardware.. and how good that must feel to be stressing out on those walks.

I guess the occasional aches are to be expected with hip number two, it still is early days in the scheme of things.

I must admit, I know that my hip two needs surgery, but given the stress of hips one, I will try to defer as long as I can... But we are thinking six months, but who knows..

Dave you are one of the most caring people I see on the forum, you post such encouraging and supportive words to so many.. and I am conscious that you don't post on your own thread very frequently these days, so I will just keep checking with you :) :)

Right there with you on that one Dave:yes 4:

Dave - It's so good to hear how well you are doing and it is so encouraging to know of the successes of those who have had both hips done. I just passed the 4 week mark with hip 2 and even though I'm still dealing with pain, I know in the end it will be so well worth it!

Hey Dave and Liz, good to hear from you.. Sorry you still have some pain with hip two Liz.. Stay positive honey, as Jo tells us all the time - hips have a way of working out :)

Dave, hope you got my email reply... Grab a coffee first buddy hahaha!!!

lol, xxxx

Hi there Dave

Just checking in with you to see how you are going.

Is your weather allowing you to get those lovely walks in with Bertha?

Dave, Good to hear you are doing ok. Please take care. :doggieshmooze::yes 4:

Hi Dave -

Getting caught up on your thread and glad that things are going well for you after your "double". Your progress is encouraging to me.

Just curious though - did you get any sensation of differential leg length after your 2nd one ??

3 Month and 9 Month Update

I am now 3 months after the second hip replacement and 9 months after the first and I feel like I am no longer recovering form any operation....I feel like I have recovered.

I feel normal.......
I have got my life back......
I feel
GREAT!

I debated for a long time whether to make this post as I don't want to sound as if I am gloating but decided that the purpose of having the replacements is, after all, to get back to feeling normal and I hope this post in some ways acts as encouragement to those of you who are still taking that journey as well as being a final post in my recovery.

I hope I am not tempting fate and there are setbacks around the corner!

I have been extremely fortunate especially with the second replacement which for me has been an easier recovery than the first. I think the knowledge of what to expect and posts charting the journeys of everyone else has helped in this regard.

Kevin, I never noticed any leg length difference.

I realise that at 3 months the recovery is not complete and in honesty the range of motion for hip No 2 can still be improved a little, but the positives are....

I have no pain, I am not taking any pain meds of any kind, I can walk normally without any limp striding out at a fast pace - distance seems to be immaterial, my hips feel strong, bending - no problem, shoes socks etc - no problem.... All this now feels like I am back to where I was some two years ago before any hip problems set in.

Good luck to all the Bonesmart members - you have all really helped me through this. You will all recover at your own rates and you will all see the benefits that this surgery brings.

One last thought....

Where would any of us be if we were in the same boat 40 or so years ago before hip replacements were developed?

So I also say thank you to the hip replacement pioneers.

Best wishes to you all

Dave

NIce one, Dave. It's good to hear how well you have done.

I hope I do as well with Hip #2.

Best wishes for the future, and NO setbacks!

Congrats Dave ... I look forward to a second hip at some point. I think #2 has a few years left in it (but it was more painful last night in bed that it's been in months...perhaps this new configuration with hip #1 will speed that up)

Well done!

Z

Wow Dave!

Thanks for sharing your awesome recoveries with us and keep on keeping on! I, too, have often thought what life would be like without the hip replacements, it would have been a life of pain and a wheelchair for me...we have so much to be THANKFUL for. All the best to you.

I say AMEN to that. Those pioneers in the 50s and 60s went through a lot to give us this present. We owe them a lot.

Dave, I took the liberty of editing your post because the font was so very tiny!

Hiya Dave

Loved your post, it is so encouraging to all of us.

As I have mentioned you have been my 'voice of reason' and I replay your private and public words to me that it is a marathon, not a sprint... will keep in touch xxx
