THR Second one - hope it's better than the first

Being home in familiar surroundings makes everything better. I was only in the hospital one night and that was more than enough for me!

Yahoo! She's flying the coop.
Home is the best! You'll rest better, sleep better, eat better.
It's great to have your son taking care of you....he gets to give gave back fot all the years of "mommy love"
he received. It's very sweet!
Keep taking those meds on schedule, icing, elevating and you should be good.
Sneak in lots of cozy warm naps too   After all you're the patient :elevate: it's expected!
Warm wishes for a great week at HOME SWEET HOME!
@Bevlah

So glad to hear you are getting home today! Hopefully the brunt of the dizziness has faded and your pain medication is sorted to your best advantage? Great your son can help out- lucky mom!

Hi Bev, oh that first day back home....... wonderful and your son to help out. It's great getting home, just like another achievement getting ticked on the list. First of many.

Hi guys yes it was wonderful in my own bed last night!! I am struggling with the whole elevation and ice thing. When in hospital they didn't do either. When I left I asked them about it and they said no and to not lie down, to sit on my chair. Then on my notes it said I had been advised to elevate! Your advice is to and I am doing it right now which is much more comfy. Am I ok lying on the sofa with my leg elevated for a while? I only ask as the operation took it out of me and I have no energy to do anything else to be honest. I just want to do everything right!!

Lying on the sofa with leg elevated...... that sounds right to me, don't forget to ice. You're right the op does take it out of you so rest plenty. The energy will come back but let the healing commence first. Oh and at this stage I got hooked on 'Come dine with me' and 'Places in the sun' take care.

My post op instructions didn't stress the importance of icing, and I was also not supported with icing and elevating at hospital.
It definitely became my best friend.:ice:. Glad you are home.
Somewhat more comfortable is about all you can expect at this time, but I felt much better to be at home.
My glad your son is there to help.
Nap all you can!:thumb:

Hi Bevlah!
The surgery center I went through advised icing and even sent me home with a larger sized covered
ice pack that quickly became my favorite. It was long and bent in half (two separate sides) so it covered a large area. I used ice almost constantly anytime I was sitting or lying down.
As conscientious as you sound, I bet you'll do everything right. You're a good patient :elevate:
The energy drain is real! Your body is behaving as it should using most of its energy to heal the trauma you've suffered. Just roll with it. It's a good excuse to sneak in a nap....or three :heehee:
At only 5 days post op...you're doing great! @Bevlah

I ordered four large ice packs for next round- even if they send me home with one this time (which they didn’t last time), I want to make sure I have a ready supply. Curious @Bevlah,what type of elevated cushion?

@MammaT
Have attached the cushion below. Not exciting but I am excited about getting it!!! Sad how things change?? I also ordered some ice packs and I am beside myself about them. Laid on my back with an Amazon prime account....could be a good thing or a bad thing!!

Thanks @Bevlah. I am also excited about two extra grabbers I ordered. I want to have one in kitchen, living room and bedroom so I don’t have to go searching for them while using walker. Thy were a tremendous aid first time around. Am checking out that cushion tonight. Prime is dangerous!

@MammaT I know it is but it's not like we can just pop to the shops is it? My cushion is here and so much better than the pillow stack!

@Bevlah Ice is your friend right now. It's a natural pain killer. Eases all the swelling - internal and external. And yes, it's fine to lie on the sofa. You need all the rest you can get in these early days.

Hi Bevlah,
Hope you're having a good day!

Aww, good old Amazon Prime, lol!
They just make is so easy for us....................to go broke:heehee:
Love it though! Especially in the winter. I get paper towels and PT from them, yep, drop it on my doorstep!
You know... the items you always leave in the car, to put away later...when you're hauling in the groceries.
I ordered some type of pillow from them similar to yours called the Lounge Doctor? (Think that's the name?)
I like it, it's great....when I use it.
This getting old biz and ordering all these silly contraptions is for the birds UGH!

Hi my lovely hippies. I have recently posted in the recovery thread as I am 7 days post op. I have found the information from here unbelievable helpful but I was wondering if there were any other hippies out there with my same problem as my title? I seem to be at a standstill with the recovery and when I am at the end of my meds for the day, in alot of pain. Walking is still really difficult. There is such a pulling sensation when my leg is straight and it aches so much. I am as awake now as my meds have run out until the morning. That's with ones to supposedly see me through the night! Everyone on here seems to be up and about alot more than I am? My leg still feels like it has just been operated on!! Is this because it was a really complicated surgery? My surgeon when asked if it was successful just said " it was a very difficult operation due to the severe dormitory" then walked off! I don't know if I am just being a wimp but I am not normally. Everybody seems to say it's great that the hip pain has gone but I can't really notice as I am in a whole different world of pain right now! When meds are working it's bearable and I can move around slightly. My partner tried to shower me last night sat on a chair in the shower and had to give up as I was so exhausted! I can cope if I know it's just a slower heal than a normal THR but there was no information forth coming from the hospital and I feel a bit out on a limb......no pun intended. I look forward to any information from anyone. Thank you

Hi @Bevlah
While I'm not familiar with Protrusio Acetabuli, I am sorry you're in pain
and unable to get the answers you're seeking. A few thoughts: Consider phoning the office of your OS to get your meds adjusted. It sounds like you could use better pain management. Hopefully they can advise on switching meds or upping dosage. At the same time I would ask questions in an effort to get the answers you're seeking in regard to your surgery. If you're not satisfied with explanations you may consider tagging Josephine to weigh in upon her return.

You are only one week into recovery. Pain is normal, fatigue and energy drain - normal. If your surgery was more complicated it's not surprising your pain may be more intense. Once again, you may need your meds adjusted.

First showers are exhausting, you're not alone, it will slowly improve. I think you''ll need to rustle up some patience as recovery takes time and you are in the very early days. Just take it slow, it will happen.
Prayers for peace and comfort as you continue to heal!

This thread will be merged with your original recovery thread so that your recovery info is all contained within the same thread.

Hello @Bevlah
You'll notice that I have merged your newest thread with your original recovery thread.
For several reasons, we prefer that you only have one recovery thread:
  • That way, we have all your information in one place. This makes it easier to go back and review your history before providing advice.
  • If you keep starting new threads, you miss the posts and advice others have left for you in the old threads, and some information may be unnecessarily repeated
  • Having only one thread will act as a diary of your progress that you can look back on.
So please post any updates, questions or concerns about your recovery here.
Don't worry that we won't see your question because, between us, the staff read all new posts every day.
If you need an urgent response to a question, just tag a member of staff.
How to tag another member; how to answer when someone tags you

If you prefer a different thread title, just post what you want and we'll get it changed for you.

Here are the instructions on finding your thread, How can I find my threads and posts? . Many members bookmark their thread, so they can find it when they log on.

We try to keep the forum a positive and safe place for our members to talk about their questions or concerns and to report successes with their joint replacement surgery. While members may create as many threads as they like in a majority of BoneSmart's forums, we ask that each member have only one recovery thread. This policy makes it easier to go back and review history before providing advice.

@Josephine hi there. Can you please read my most recent post please. I have been asked to tag you in but already posted it! As @Layla says, I will call the hospital to see if I can get the answers but it was all rather a conveyor belt there as they specialise in knee and hip and as long as you could walk down the stairs you were out! Thank you
