THR Second one - hope it's better than the first

I do get up every hour and do PT exercises
Did you miss our advice for hips? Hips actually don't need any exercise to get better. They do a pretty good job of it all on their own if given half a chance. Trouble is, people don't give them a chance and end up with all sorts of aches and pains and sore spots. All they need is the best therapy which is walking and even then not to excess.

@Josephine hi Josie I appreciate what you are saying but I do feel better when I do the excercises! If I don't do them then I am very stiff!!

Gosh, back at work and do all those chores you sound amazing, ,
you have had such a difficult time I do hope this next part of your recovery will go gently and smoothly. Do be kind to yourself, your body has been through so much----take time. Hugsxxx

My physio says I’m not tomdonexercises (increases my already increased tone) but that stretches are good for me. Is that what you mean by PT? Walking and stretching?

I love the stretches too @Bevlah. Sounds like your life is busy. With first hip it really took a few months for various aches and twinges to go away and I expect same thing with right hip. Really focusing on walking. Trying to figure out best way to incorporate more movement into work day.

Have a good weekend.

That’s good about the stretches, I was picturing squats or something when you said exercise.

@Gidget ha ha squats? I still walk like a penguin and using the grabber if I drop something so squats are definitely off the menu!!
@MammaT hi lovey. 10 weeks for me now and although a massive improvement I have so many aches, pains and stiffness I am wondering why I had this thing done!! The pain isn't so intense as the oa but I could walk better and had slightly better ROM!!!! I am sure it will keep improving but I am really not feeling the love. My left one is really hurting now so I need that one doing which fills me with dread!! I really want off this roller coaster now and start living my life. Sorry I am sounding a bit negative but just been in town with my bloody cane, being overtaken by 90 year olds and have come home shattered. I want to be normal..... Whatever that is! Anyway rant and winge over. I did buy myself a new dress and shoes for a party I am going to next week so all is not bad! Hope all good with you

Keep your patience going, Bevlah.
Seriously, the four month mark is where I saw the biggest improvement.
Happy you are getting to get out with your new frock!
Good for your mental health.
Hope your weekend is relaxing.

@Josephine hi lovey I have just seen you post on somebody else's pre op forum that prosusio is the later stages of infant hip dysplasia? Nobody has ever really explained why what and how to me and my mind whirls with questions? Is dysplasia clicky hip? As it seems more common on BS than I thought why was it not diagnosed as a baby? Both my boys I can remember the nurse putting the soles of their feet together and moving their hips. My mum is convinced I was thoroughly checked over as a baby and said the doctor was wrong last year when I was diagnosed with protusio and wanted to call him to tell him so!!! Thanks for your help as always

So sorry you are having a downspell @Bevlah. I think it may be hard for the replaced hip to get to 100% if we have the other one giving us trouble (just my opinion). I know as my right started getting worse, I had my left starting to act up after a year. Bursa, etc. it has shown improvement during recovery. I am looking forward to getting to the 3-4 month mark with more recent hip to see how everything settles. Unfortunately, walking being off on one side impacts the other, which is a large part of why I didn’t let right go as long as I did left.

My ROM is improving, not to where I want it, but small improvements each week. I happen to think grabbers are a wonderful thing! That is the one assistive device I never stopped completely using (especially for upper shelves and lower tight places). I didn’t get to the point of automatically squatting down to pick things up until around the year mark with my left hip, so don’t despair.

Maybe since we are getting our hips now, we will be th 90 year olds overtaking others!

:hi: Three months post bionic.
I hope you are some day by day.
I hate that you haven't seen the ROM you so desperately hoped for but I hope hip pain is gone and the post op stuff is lessening.
I agree with MammaT that many here have figured there bad hip plays into the new one being able to operate optimally.
You bring comfort and smiles to many on the forum, so we all also want the best for you.:roseshwr:
Hope your weekend is wonderful and things get better and better every day!

Hi @Bevlah so sorry to hear you are struggling. I must admit even though my new one doing ok everything is still very much a challenge as the knackered one is getting worse every day I thought I would be ok starting to walk the dogs a little way with 2 sticks but after a couple of days I felt absolutely floored I dont think that until both are done you can really make that much progress I know its daunting but hopefully if you have both fixed things will start working well for you.
All the best for the Easter weekend

@mcopt hi Martin I think you're right! My other one which is apparently my good leg is not happy!! I really don't want to go through it again but I know I have to but have not heard anything from the hospital. Will call them next week to see if they can give me a date. On a positive I went to a party last night and did a bit of dancing! Well I shuffled around a bit!! Paying the price today with icing but I had a great night!!
Happy Easter to you and your family

Hi @Bevlah
Assuming you recovered from your dancing / shuffling by now, lol.
Hope you're doing well. Three month anniversary on Wednesday. Time sure flies.
Wishing you a wonderful week!

Hi @Layla yes seeing the surgeon tomorrow about hip number 2! Also an appointment with the physio to see how I can get my ROM. All go......

:hi:
Best of luck with your appointments with the surgeon and physio tomorrow, Bev.
Let us know how it goes.
Hugs :friends:
@Bevlah

Well the physio have me lots of excercises to strengthen my crappy muscles. She said my flexibility was non existent and I am like a board! She doesn't think I will ever get outward range of movement so there goes my ambition to sit crossed legged on the floor!!! I must admit I had a few tears...... Anyway surgeon said hip looks great and doesn't see why I still have no flexibility???? I am so confused. Still have thigh pain when getting up from chair which he said will calm down. Going on holiday in July so trying to get the next one booked in for August. Great joy!!!!

Sorry you didn’t have positive news from physiology @Bevlah. Hopefully physio will be proven wrong. I have found with both hips muscles take time. I am noticing that some problems that were lingering with first hip are going away as new hip gets more settled in.

I still have some numbness and tenderness in right hip (newest one) which is steadily improving, but my impatience wants everything healed yesterday! Just when I thought it would never go away I woke up a week or so again and noticed improvement.

Hopefully you will notice steady improvement and when you get a matched set, things can level out. In the meantime, do what you can. Do the exercises that you can that don’t hurt.
