THR Sarak - There's Life After a Hip Replacement

Agree - I have the philosophy that if it hurts when you do that, don't do that (beyond typical sore muscles when you exercise). My PT has the same philosophy. When certain exercises were difficult or painful, we dropped them. If I overdid it and was in pain that night or next morning, rest was the order of the day.

Perfect. Want you strolling by Christmas.:reindeerlights:

having ploughed through this thread, I'm now heading to the kitchen to see what I can find....I will hold you all responsible if my surgeon is aghast at the weight I've put on :heehee: Also going to dig out all my old cds now you've reminded me of some of the oldies I loved......nostalgia trip accompanied by chocolate :wowspring:

OMG "Cold as Ice" was one of my high school faves - I can remember listening to my little clock radio for hours waiting for it to be played and singing along. I still have the vinyl record in my basement. No turntable to play it on though...thanks for the memory @SaraK! And sounds like recovery is going fantastic for you!

Actually, feeling pretty good. The pain meds were making me nauseous so I've been tapering off of them. Pain seems manageable using ice and Tylenol at this point. Will add a dose of the hydrocodone as needed, though.

My first PT session this morning . I know many of you on here don't believe in PT, but we'll agree to differ on that point. My PT and I both have the philosophy that, if I could do it before but can't do it now without pain, I don't do it now. Today's PT will be primarily massage, light stretching and maybe a little on the cycle and/or treadmill (I tried the cycle with no resistance and going very slowly list night and it seemed to loosen things up some and felt good).

Just on the cusp of switching from the walker to the cane. I've tried using just the cane a little bit but not quite strong enough to switch over completely yet. It was a little easier to climb into the tub for my shower this morning, though.

Off to PT and then a nap!

Great to hear you are doing well you I admire your positive attitude .Here's to a brilliant recovery and start planning those birthday celebrations  PS have now discovered where all the emojis are!

PT went well. Massage and easy manual stretch. Only exercises so far are to keep IT band from getting too tight.

Stopped for Mexican food on the way home. Now time for a nap!

Everyone's napping! Just checked in on danabanana and she's napping too.
You'd think you people just went thru major surgery...or something :rotfl:
@SaraK

Don't get many chances to nap - especially without someone thinking I'm a sloucher so I have to take advantage of it while I can!

Lots of healing happens while sleeping.
Rest when you are able:sleep:

This needs to be my mantra! I need to keep reminding myself not to do too much. That said, I'm starting to transition to the cane today (with PT's OK) and will be working from home some today and tomorrow (in between naps). Its so busy at the office that I knew this was a possibility but at least it's work I can do at my computer sitting in my recliner!

I took a half dose of the meds at bedtime last night and it did the trick. I get fresh ice anytime I get up (like when the neighbor's cat came into our yard at midnight and one of our cats started yowling and hissing). The mobility is definitely improving. I even woke at one point last night with my operative leg flexed knee up - a position I'd had difficulty achieving the prior day. This morning, I woke with my ankles crossed (good thing i'm allowed to do that!).

None of the above means that it doesn't suck at times - I just prefer to focus on the improvements!

Definitely focus on the improvements- that’s why we go through this!

Today has been a good day! No meds (other than Tylenol) since bedtime last night. I haven't even needed to ice much today. I've completely switched over to cane other than middle of the night wanderings when I might not be as stable).

I went to the gym and cycled (slow with no resistance) for 10 minutes, did my IT band exercises and walked for about 5 minutes at 0.5 mph. The hip felt good afterwards but icing now just in case. One of the trainers saw me on the walker Sun night and saw me with the cane today and couldn't believe the progress in 2 days.

We'll see how I'm doing in the morning - if any pain, I'll dial it back and take a rest day but hopefully ready to repeat the process tomorrow. Still keeping my fingers crossed for chair dancing Friday!

Wow, Sara you're doing great! I need to read about Super Path.
It sounds like you're on the fast track with everything.
You're wise in holding onto that cane for your middle of the night wanderings.
I did the same early on...now I'm just walking to the bathroom in the dark in the middle of the night.
Not advising it but I have a straight path, nothing to bump into.
I'll bet ice and rest will have you back on track soon.

Your music takes me back. I recently started listening to the Eagles again.
Love Don Henley, he's written SO MANY great songs.
I love Desperado and The Last Resort, waaay mellow but still love!
Hope your week is good! @SaraK

@Layla I'll still be using the cane for a bit. Just switched to it. The walker is for my middle of the ramblings (especially since it terrifies my sons cat and she will actually get out of its way). You do realize that, at some point in time, I'm going to have to pull out the obvious Clapton song, don't you?

Hahaha!
That's funny @SaraK

Hope today is a Good Day

While off topic slightly, when my son told me they were going to name their daughter Layla, I asked how they were hoing to spell it. He said “like Clapton, mom.” Raised that boy right!
