@MammaT - seriously considering seeing what the best noise blocking earplugs are that Amazon can deliver by Friday! Maybe a good old-fashioned "quiet contest" with monetary rewards.
Kids! Gotta love em!
Just think of the bonding you'll do. The older they get the less opportunities.
"A son is a son til he gets a wife, but a daughter is a daughter all her life"
Have a blast creating new memories with your babies!! @SaraK
If that were all it was, I could ignore them quite easily. They just know how to push my buttons and then spiral off each other! I just try to tell myself that this is their way of saying they love me and feel safe in my love for them. That and there being no guns or knives in sight allows them to live another day!
@MammaT - I'm afraid to try that with the older one. It had the opposite reaction when he was a kid. He bounced off the walls and barely slept (so I barely slept) for three days when he had Fifth Disease at 2 YO. I was so sleep deprived, I thought the rash was causing irritation that was keeping him awake but it was the meds. His doctor gave him ambien once for his insomnia. Didn't make him sleep but he didn't remember any of the weird things he did or said. Do they make muzzles for humans?
Hope you're having a good week @SaraK
Hopefully you won't have snow slowing down your travel this weekend.
We're getting hit tomorrow. Is Winter almost over?
Enjoy your day!
@Layla - trip may get cancelled again! There's talk of wintry mix Thurs night as temp drops from high of 59 to low of 19 that night, with snow possible Fri and Mon and temp not going above freezing in rest of 10 day forecast. And my older son has the flu! I think the fates are telling me not to take this trip! Maybe I'll wait until my aunt comes in from Phoenix (usu in March) and I'll see if I can stow away in her luggage when she goes back.
Take care out in that snow that's coming your way!
Well that's a bummer! Wise to cancel with the weather forecast. In addition,
not knowing how long it will be before your son bounces back and cares to road trip.
Hope he's better soon! He needs some dear ol mom TLC @SaraK
The flu is bad this year- please try not to get it @SaraK. Both my DIL and grandson are sick right now. As much as I love them, I am not visiting for a while.
@Dive17 - The nice thing about them growing up and moving out of the house is that I won't have to deal with the man flu! He's 22 and lives with his girlfriend (who also has the flu) and turned down my offer to come over and bring anything they needed. I got my flu shot but understand they aren't nearly as effective this year as usual. I was so worried about getting the flu or a bad cold before my surgery that I shut my office door when my secretary and her bay mate were having a coughing and sneezing contest the week before my surgery. I did have a little bit of an allergy issue just before surgery and can tell you that coughing and sneezing the day of/after a THR is NOT fun!
@Layla - I've always heard that KC and St. Louis are two of the most difficult places to forecast weather. We're right at the jet stream so a small movement one way or the other can cause a storm to be significantly different than predicted. My favorite was the time flurries were predicted the night before. In the morning, still talking about flurries when I got up and when I got out of the shower (but, by that time, those flurries looked an awful lot like big, wet snowflakes and were coming down at a good clip). In the 2 hours it took me to drive into the office (usually a 30 minute drive), the forecast changed several times and we ended up getting 9 inches of those flurries! Consequently, when there is any possibility of snow/ice, I prefer not to travel to my mom's - either place could become treacherous. I'm just glad I have a 16 YO snow plow!
I'm feeling a little warmer right now - just got notice of a computer rep meeting for my son's summer swim team - must mean that warmer weather is just around the corner, right?
@SaraK I think we have a similar forecast here in MI over the next couple of days. My husband was grumbling about it this morning. He has a 45 minute commute (which easily turns into a 1 to 1.5 hr commute in any sort of weather). Sorry your trip has been derailed again!
Trip definitely canceled and I didn't even have to make the call (literally). My mom just called and said she'd prefer we stayed home rather than dealing with the possible bad weather (and she didn't even know about Mike having the flu). She gets nervous about people driving in snow and ice (we joke that the "roads are too bad" for her until all of the snow on roofs and lawns have melted).
Seems like a good weekend for chili and stew (I make a low carb version by replacing the potatoes with diced broccoli and/or cauliflower stalks) and crocheting the new blanket for my bed.
Thankfully Flu Boy has turned down my offers of assistance! What a good mom I am!
Just stopped and got extra salt and few provisions since I am tied up tomorrow night and don’t want to deal with stores Friday after work. I guess they are saying this part of ohio can get significant snow. We are due for one!
Mom is wise, you're safer at home.
With single digits for temps here this weekend Chili sounds good. Thanks for the idea @SaraK
Do you ever make White Chili? I like both.
Crocheting and cooking.....you sound a little Martha-ish just like Berber!
Hope your son feels better soon
Happy your staying put.....ucky roads and flu.....bleck! How about you join me at my place Sat for my REAL bday bash!!!! That's right, I announced this a couple hours ago...I'm re-celebrating my bday in all its fun deserving glory on Saturday. I'll give you some yarn for your blankie as long as you promise to share your dance moves! mmm chili! You are now.our BS Martha!
@SaraK I saw your other post about the frozen iguanas in FL. Did you see the story about some guy who picked a bunch of them up and put them in his car and was driving somewhere. Of course the iguanas started to thaw out in his car and, well, you can guess what probably happened. You have to wonder about some people.
I think we are forecast to have just about every kind of precipitation over the next 24-48 hours - rain, sleet, freezing rain, snow. etc. Going from mid-50s today to 17 on Saturday. Big sigh.
No way can I take the Martha title away from @Berber7227 - my chili is brown some hamburger in microwave, open 2 cans and 2 spice packets. My stew is throw sliced beef into crockpot, add presliced carrots, diced broccoli and califlower stalks (the hardest part) and chopped celery into crackpot with a little water and a couple of brown gravy packets. My 16 YO son could (and has) made both. Not quite like her lava cakes and other goodies!
Crocheting (at least the patterns I use) is MUCH easier than quilting, so she takes the cake in that category too!
@danabanana - what time Sat and how long of a drive should I expect from the Vancouver airport? Just promise there won't be any bad weather and the Temps will be above freezing! I love that you get another birthday. My personal philosophy is that you get to include time the weekend before or after As part of your birthday - the amount of time being equal to one hour for each year. I think that means you can start Sat morning and continue thru Sun.
