THR Sarah Bee (Re)Learns to Walk.

You are going to do great @SarahBee ! You just went through the worst part with the surgery! It's almost hard to know how to act or what to think once all that consuming and gnawing pain is gone. It almost seems like a dream to be pain free again. You'll ace the recovery and we're here rooting for you!

Thank you @Fit4Family . I feel so blessed to be home and to be moving around with such minimal pain. Peace is the only way to describe it. Hope you are coming along nicely as well. I need to catch up with everyone. I've been preoccupied :heehee:

Day 2 after surgery. Slept okay, not great. Mostly on my back but tried on non surgical side with pillows. Some burning pain along the side of my thigh. Nothing dreadful. Need not to over think every twinge. :umm:

Medications are working well. Need not to.lift walker as I stroll around. :walking:

@SarahBee Hopefully sleep will get better with each day that passes but it was hard at first for me. Maybe because I was dozing all day long :snork:. I also had those little twinges, the lil' stinkers still crop up once in a while! I know that you're keeping that ice handy! :ice:

I am keeping the ice handy, indeed, @SE Florida . It's my new best friend. The biggest problem for sleeping was being on my back. My favored side is the right, so umm, no. I am trying to rest without sleeping through the day. I seem successful until I open my eyes. :loll:

Feeling a little nervous about PT today. At least it is easy to stand my ground in my own home with hubs here. Nothing that hurts and no manipulation by her. I'll do my own movements, thank you very much. I feel a little childish about this, I guess. :scare:

I felt really weird about it too. I used the excuse that I already had all of the exercises down pat from my LTHR and I didn't need my PT to stand over me while I did them. Honestly we shouldn't have to give an excuse! This PT seemed very receptive to mainly just walking and icing, and never got pushy. It seems like maybe the PT's are coming around to a more moderate approach?

Happy Friday, Sarah.
It seems you're doing great. Tired is normal as is burning, stinging, zapping sensations, most of which are fleeting.

Re: PT
Lay down the law before you even begin. You have an easy breezy way of communicating and I think you'll feel better if you kindly put it out there from the beginning - You don't intend to do anything that causes you pain -
You may as well see whether you have a match with your PT straight out of the gate.
Best of luck. Let us know how it goes.
@SarahBee

@Layla , I agree. I try and tend to be non-confrontational so if I think it may happen, I have to.puff myself up.... Rather like a male peacock I guess. This is my fear talking. I don't want to lose this comfortableness so soon.

But I want to do things needed to lose the limp, and the walker so I'll be good! :)

I think your kindness will take you far.
Be gentle but firm about your expectations sharing the limitations you intend to abide by.
If all else fails...Big up your chest. Hey, it works for the other half :heehee:

Remember heel-toe walking for the limp. Heel strikes the ground first followed by toes. Takes a lot of concentration initially after the sloppy gait most of us establishied in favoring our deteriorating hip.
I have confidence you'll handle it well. Unless you get a controlling know it all PT.
Can't wait to hear all about it.
@SarahBee

I'm kind of on the timid side unless you ask my husband, snicker. But I really wish I had been more up front with my PT than I was but I managed to get my point across well enough. He only returned once after the initial visit and that was to sign me off after he watched me walking (with the walker). And what @Layla said about the heel-toe walking is about the only thing that really got me back in line again. I was surprised at how much it helped! Thankfully I lost my limp but I still practice my heel-toe.
