Wow inthebeginning that sounds great, chili and cornbread, only thing your missing is collard greens. And you got me on the beverage wagon.I did carry an x-l coffee.Im so broke I cant even pay attention or some beers wouldve been in the cards. Also Im just estimating the 2 miles,it could be a little shy of that but not much.Just thr fact that pain wasnt the overwhelming factor and isnt the dominating force any more is almost to good to be true.I noticed you rode your bike to therapy the other day, pretty cool.I dont have bike paths here so Im riding on the road with traffic, and I like to ride against traffic so I can see whats coming at me.Thats scary all of a sudden.I left my sons house the other night at around 8:30 and I had to ride the shoulder as he lives on Rte 58,pretty busy.Seemed like every other car was trying to swerve into me.I wanted to fight these people.
cnydutch sorry I dont have better pics cell pics and most of them are dark but thought you'd like the haul they got.Lots of chocolate.Today was a day of bribery and negotiations. Rained all day here so my son whos also a roofer had the day off and we kept the twins home and hung out all day fixing his jeep.Bribing them and negotiating with candy.Horrible grampa.Peace.

Roofmaster. Technically you're supposed to ride with traffic, but I feel ya! I want to see what hits me. Do you ever notice how many darn people are on their phones? When I used to run it was well above 50% !

Me,my new hips and my mountain bike on lunch break.Tearing up the cranberry bogs.

For some reason I cant upload the pic.I'll try later when I get home.

Oh to be out on a mountain bike again , or any bike :heehee:
Won't be long .

Great to hear your recovery is going so well Roofmaster , quality of life returning and getting your ''grandpa therapy'' done , that's a lot of candy

Roofmaster What does a cranberry bog really look like? Are they grown in standing water? I bet it's gorgeous out there now. I'm hoping I can be back on my bike someday, tho it is getting pretty cold for that now.

You have such great adventures! My recent adventures are pretty much limited to watching Netflix from my recliner.

Peace and love to you.

My big adventure was going back to work this week. I'm actually looking forward to PT tomorrow!

PDH63 Iread on youre posts that you used to race bikes.Motorbikes and pedal bikes.I raced Motocross 125cc and 250cc class for quite a while. Also BMX ,never raced mountain bikes though.Yeah feels great riding again.Ive been riding my 18 speed road bike for about 3 weeks and the mountain bike for 2.I started slow with the seat low at first just around the neighborhood until I convinced myself it was safe then I ventured out further.I prefer off road with my Canondale as I dont have to worry about traffic.People in cars are idiots and dangerous. On the trails I can fill a backpack with supplies and be gone for hours without risking a collisio with a car. When Im on my road bike Im paranoid as HE double hockey sticks.Plus Im going much faster and pavement is way harder than off road, ouch. At any rate Im much more careful than the old days when the consequences of mistakes were much less severe.I bet you cant wait to get back riding.By my estimates you should be back on a bike in 2 weeks.
Hello Butterfly yes the cranberry bogs are a beautiful site this time of year.I like them year round as place to bring the kids, walk with my wife or just be alone.Theyre wonderful during hunting season as the deer use them as highways and meeting spots. The ponds they use to water them are good fishing also so they are a good resource.Of course theres also the berries. The best part about this time of year is the colors. The leaves are all changing colors and the bogs are all a dark crimsony purple so the contrasts on the perfect days can be awesome.Personally I like it first thing in the morning when all the berries are covered with a layer of frost and some of the berries are poking through. To answer your question no theyre not grown in standing water, from what I gather from watching the process for the 10 years or so Ive lived here is when the berries are ripe they flood the bogs to harvest them.Once the bogs are flooded they go out in these bog buggies and free the berries which float in water and are then corralled and put in open trucks. My town,Carver Ma. is littered with cranberries.Did I mention I dont even like them.To bitter unless sweetened with sugar. And speaking of adventures, you just went through a couple of exciting adventures yourself having double hip surgery. Before you know it youll be putting those things to use in your own wonderful adventures.Thats what life is,one short adventure.I still cant upload the picture I took earlier today on my cell phone,it keeps saying file to big.How can that be?Every pic Ive posted before was from my cell phone.Peace.

So how was it inthebeginning ?Big change of pace? How long were you out before returning? And can you get me a job so I dont have to go back to roofing in the middle of winter?Ughh Im dreading that. You dont know how bad.Im glad to here your back bud.Just dont leave us.Peace.

Roofmaster Hey, Roof! More questions from me (what a surprise, I know). You said you had more post-op pain from the second hip than the first, no? How long did it take it to subside with the second hip? I'm actually having quite a bit more pain in upper leg and thigh than I did with #1, and it seems like it is lastng longer. I know I got off VERY easy with #1 and had very little pain, but I can't help sitting around and wondering. I also have quite a bit of pain when first standing up on #2 hip. I know I am only on day 9 with #2, and I know I am overanxious. I am not in agony or anything, but it is significant pain, and significantly worse than #1 was. I guess I've lost my sense of perspective on this one. The doc did tell me this one was going to be harder than the first one because of more damage (don't know if he meant harder surgically for him, or harder recovery for me, or both).

How long before you were more or less pain free with #2 ( I don't mean after a lot of activity, but just after sitting a while, etc, and while walking with the walker).

I noticed that in one of your posts you mentioned the thought of suicide crossed your mind pror to the surgeries. I wanted to tell you It crossed mine, too, albeit briefly, in one of my worst spells of agony when pain meds wouldn't even touch that bone-on-bone pain. Unrelenting pain does terrible things to your mind, especially in the wee hours of the morning when you are alone. I would never have acted on the thought, but it was there, and it scared me that I was that close to the edge that such a thought would even occur to me. Like you, I am so thankful I chose to hold on and see it through, and I don't plan on wasting any of the good time that's in my future. This whole recovery time is a journey of gratitude for me, even if it has bumps and down days.

Peace and love to you, Roofmaster, and thank you for being my friend.

You make the cranberry bogs sound positively magical. I'd love to see them some day. I have never been to Massachusetts.

I wish you didn't have to go back to roofing. Any other ideas in the offing? I know you talked about ink at aone point. Could you make a living at that? Or at some other form of construction that wasn't so hard, or is it all equally hard? I've just sat at desks working for lawyers all my working life, but then I retired from even that prior to surgery because I couldn't manage even that any more. When I'm better, I'm going to find something meaningful to me to volunteer at. Not quite sure what, yet, but I've started kinda looking around.

Keep on riding those bikes -- my spirit will be there, too (I'll be the little one with grey hair hollering "whooo haaaa").

Roofmaster, It wasn't too bad. I sit most of the day and am able to get up, walk round and stretch as needed. I'm also only back on 6 hour shifts instead of the full 10 hours. I have a :45 min drive up and back. First couple steps out of the car are a little tight, but I loosen right up in a minute.

Started riding the bike more. No cranberry bogs here. We do have a great bike path system in the Denver metro area, about 81 trails totaling over 300 miles! Some of these are multi-use, so you never know what you will see. On one ride, I saw other bikes, runners, speedwalkers, rollerbladers and a horse! It's a great time of year to ride with the leaves changing (well they're about done out here now), great temps in the high 50's low 60's during the day.

Not much for work where I am right now. We're all hired up for the winter.

Keep on truckin'

calikat. Not completely wiped out. I still have a 10 and 6 year old to keep occupied until bedtime! Once they are down, I'm back in the recliner for a bit ;-) catch the local news at 9 then in bed by 10.
