Roofmaster We love reading your posts! Not sure if you and inthebeginning can be hippy chicks - a chick is a young woman in England - oh dear, that rules me out as well!:rotfl:
shrinkette Have you tried putting a shiny plastic bag on the car seat, sit back with legs still outside car and then swivel round so legs are in? Other way round for getting out. Sitting on plastic is not too comfortable for long trips but it does make entry and exit easier!
It does remind me of the way we were told to get in and out of a car in the 1960s when miniskirts were fashionable, showing my age again even if I wasn't showing my underwear to everyone!
And on that note, I'm off to get some lunch. Take care, everyone!
Anne

Nannyannie, it holds the same meaning here ;-) just being silly! Although as I've said before, we are all connected at the hips here, chicks or guys!

Hi everyone.Hi Vetgirl.Alls well. With a keen eye on not overdoing it Ive been ratcheting up the activities. The pattern is usually the same,I overdo it a little over the weekend when everyone is around and the grandkids are out of school, then Monday morning I take stock and create my program for the week.Last Saturday I started splitting a lot of wood I have laying around.I have about 12 chords of unsplit logs laying around. We split everything with axes.During the week I vary my time between my therapy "office" which is the kids jungle gym in my yard Ive converted with various assortments of pulleys, ropes, resistance bands, straps, balance boards and beams.A mini obstacle coarse including netting, ladders, monkey bars, parallel bars.I also am up to an hour every other day in the weight room and riding my mountain bike and ten speed road bike for some heart racing cardio.Trust me,Im not overdoing it.At the slightest symptom I wont hesitate to take a day off or two.My objective is to keep my body moving, doing something for eight hours.Im not there yet but Ive got 5 weeks left to get there.I did notice that when I climb the ladder to my roof Im a little trepidatious. Its not the height, its the prospect of hurting my new hips in the event I make a mistake.Oh well I gotta get my roof legs back I guess theres no better time than the present. As far as the hips go,its still early and there are times when things get sore but my activities are increasing every day so thats normal.I lost a lot of muscle these last 6 years.I cant believe I roofed up till surgery.I gots me a serious case of chicken legs, especially the left. But I can clearly see the results of this surgery, surgeries,I have zero hip arthritus pain,I can stand and walk like a man, looking you in the eye not staring at the ground afraid Im going to trip over a pebble or a twig.I have a brand new magical relationship with my grandaughters and grandson. Its participation and they are all over me all the time and I simply cant get enough of it.Its beautiful.I really wish I could respond to everyones threads and I use any free time I have trolling this site as I owe it so much.Occasionally I poke my head in here and share somewiticism that I usually wish I could take back right about the time I hit the post reply button. You people are all my friends,as inthebeginning once wisely wrote we are joined at the hip,so please dont ever take some of the stupid ways I arrange words the wrong way.I love my new hips,I love life and I love bonesmart and you.I just want peace on Earth.

One other thing I forgot to mention.I saw my surgeon a few days ago on the 23rd Oct. for the 30 day,60 day left leg right leg follow up.We took x-rays,did a couple range of motions chatted hugged and parted ways.He said barring any complications he would see me in a year.Heres a pic of my right hip right after surgery.Basically a mirror image of the left but theres some junk in that pic if you know what I mean. You do have chick legs... oops, I mean chicken legs :egypdance:

Dude, you're really killing it! Keep up the good work. I feel underdone after reading your posts.

Hi Roofmaster. You are doing so well!!! It must be so nice getting back the simple pleasures in life like your grand kids all over you and being able to play with them again. :yay:

Thanks for checking in and letting us know how your getting on xxx

"Basically a mirror image of the left but there's some junk in that pic if you know what I mean. "
I don't know of a more delicate way to put this so........do they not use lead screens on male genitals? You are still of "childbearing" age after all.

Thanks @calicat,there are still some rough days.I actually hit an exhaustion wall tuesday.Must be that energy drain thing because I was on a smooth path upward and all of a sudden blam I woke up Tuesday morning and could barely muster the energy to do my stretches.I recognized it for what it was and set a course for inactio.I ordered myself no strength training for 2 days and no bike riding for 2 days.So for the past 3 days actually Ive done nothing but stretching and learned 3 new songs on the guitar."She talks to Angels" Black Crowes,"Fast Car" Tracy Chapman, and "Down in a Hole" Alice in Chains.I set a goal to be able to walk with my wife, sons, and grandkids this Halloween, something I havent been able to do in 3 years, and before that I would sit on a bike. When I woke up Tuesday I had 2 choices, work through the exhaustion or pragmatically listen to my body which I did and was able to reach that goal tonight. We walked a little over 2 miles,no PAIN.Not even any slight discomfort.
Yes Vetgirl the time with the family is amazing.Thank you.It seems like thats all I talk about.Im sorry for that but I absolutely love my grandkids. Its not an understatement to say they are the only ones Im trying to impress.Everything I do,every pushup, pullup, leg extension, grimace of pain during whatever Im doing to get stronger is for theyre benefit.I want to be they're superhero and suddenly Ive been given that chance again.I dont take that lightly. Its a gift.
Hi Goody2Shoes3 long time no hear.Yes we do have lead screens but theyre to small, the lead screen that is.lol ;-) Great to hear from you how are you?

I meant to say its not an overstatement in the above post.
Goody2Shoes3 how did everything go with the assesment? Are you good to go with a hip replacement? What gives lady?

Very nice that you could walk two miles with no pain! I am happy that your Halloween was a success. I definitely feel the energy drain at the end of the day. As I improve and do more, it sets me back a bit. Playing guitar sounds like a nice way to rest your hips. :)

Yes calikat I still suffer from the 3 steps forward 2 steps back blues every now and then but I think thats the nature of the beast.I wish I knew the path to the perfect recovery but alas we're human and I figure we all do recovery differant. One mans trash is another mans treasure.I think it was cnydutch who advised me way way back in my pre-op thread to keep my eyes on the prize and thats what Im doing. At this point I couldnt be more pleased.Well, maybe a little more but not much.Ive learned to respect the art of healing.Guitar playing is a wonderful tool for recovery in more ways than you could imagine, great mental therapy.I think your doing outstanding.I dont post much on your thread but Ive been following your progress just waiting for the oportunity to add some wisdom and witicism but you got this. Thanks for visiting.Peace.

Dont let the energy drain get you down.Just roll with the punches.Like you just said the more you do the more you feel it at the end of the day.All I got from that is your doin more.Thats ggggreat. As Tony the tiger would say.:-)

Hi Roof,
Glad your Halloween trick or treat was all treats and no tricks!

how about some pictures of those kids in costume?

I have a ghillie suit I made back in my military days.I used to wear that years ago when I was able to walk and almost wore it last night as its a big hit with the kids.Glad I didnt cuz it rained all night and the thing would have weighed a hundred pounds by the end of the night.

Awesome! I didn't get any pics of my kids with their booty spread all about the floor, but a similar take!
You beat me mileage wise, I walked 1.6 miles. However, were you pulling a wagon filled with beer for the dads? ;-) On our cul-de-sac, we start with a chili and cornbread competition. Then the dads take the kids out for trick-or-treating with enough beverages for all! The wives stay at the homesteads to man the candy. Been doing it this way for a number of years now.
