Revision April 2017 / Fed Up

@Mojo333 Frisked was ridiculous . How good is my consultant letter was on the mat, pre operation appointment 9th July Was tears of joy opening it. They trying to find urgent theatre slot, but at least decision made it's coming out.

Aww, "tears of joy" made my eyes well up for you, dear Crisps.
I'm so happy you see a light at the end of the tunnel.
Thankfully not too long to wait for your pre-op. Hopefully your surgery
won't be far behind.

Can't believe that airport frisking, how annoying that must have been.
Sorry you had to endure that.

Keep us updated. We'll be here to uplift and encourage all along the way.
Big hugs! Hope you have a peaceful weekend.
@Crisps

It won't be long now.
Enjoy the weekend!

@Crisps :hi:
I am thinking of you today and want you to know that I am wishing you all the best for your surgery.
Please let us know, when possible, how you are.

Not too long to wait and hopefully that terrible pain will start retreating---have read your whole thread, what a great deal of suffering you have had to contend with i hope this will be a new beginning. hugsxx

Hi All @clodaghcov and @Mojo333

Thank you all for your kind thoughts. Operation went well, consultant found the wire at the top of the plate, had split into many sharp points, he explained like a thick cable , splitting into smaller wires digging in and catching me , when moving in and out of the plate. Plate has been removed, screws buried in bone left in place. The trochanter still not attached a gap still evident, he hopes more fibrous tissue will set down , but unfortunately likely to continue to be a weak hip . I have actually been discharged home, he thought maybe two nights but said knowing me I likely ready after one. Well one night it's been, was funny physio arrived with pair crutches, saying needed to check me on and off bed, toilet etc, he somewhat surprised when I produced my pink crutches, and swiftly showed him, his required moves. Bless him.
Pain was bad last night , so hoping back under my control things hopefully will be manageable .

Again thank you . What a lovely bunch of people we are . Kay xxxx

@Crisps do tell me which pink crutches you have? i ordered some but just could not manage the open, and havent yet tracked down the closed arm! Recommendations are always so helpful. Take care and rest!xx

@clodaghcovg

They are closed cuff, ergonomic sot grip, made by Kowsky. I used to import them and sell on the internet, as I had seen the ridicules prices charged for them. My aim was to sell them for the benefit of us all, however the hassle it caused was not worth it, I even had people state damaged in transit when they did not like the colour or misunderstood even after I had explained difference between closed and open cuffs.
You can find them on the internet in the Uk but they are expensive. Although I think we're all worth it ( Cheryl Cole pinched Line )

@Crisps :roseshwr:
So happy to see you post!
Oh my stars...sounds like that was a mess in there.
I know you are medicated and just or of surgery...but that WILL HAVE to feel better I should think.
Wishing you all the best...
You will be "the lady with the pink crutches":)

Sorry, I missed this earlier.

@Crisps your consultant has faulty reasoning. A situation like that is known as a fibrous pseudoarthrosis or fibrous false joint. It will never convert to a bony fusion because the 'joint' will always be subjected to micro movement caused by the pulling of the muscle attachments on the trochanter which will not be conducive to bone growth. The only remedy is to have the osteotomy opened up, the fibrous material scraped out and then fixed with some kind of internal fixation such as screws or wires. And also use of bone graft in some form.

@Josephine
Hi I copied your post from another thread about my situation. I did not want to take over her thread, and thought it better within mine.

Feeling rather scared now. Have I really misunderstood or have I been misinformed? I can't believe how I have ended up like this following the revision in April 2017. I am in a far worse situation. Will I manage to walk on this leg more than pottering around the house?

Any suggestions what to ask at my six week review please. :beg:

I'm sorry I scared you but it's what you need to know. I think you should ask him outright if this is a non-union and if it is, how is it going to repair itself without some surgical intervention.

Btw, who is your surgeon and which hospital does he work at? I might know him.

@Josephine
Mr Gregson . Robert Jones Agnes Hunt. He has operated on me numerous times, including hip replacements , he skilled in the Dysplastic hip.
Josephine I have just had the plate and wires taken out as they had broken, so do I need to ask for another to go in . ?

If you had needed another to go in the surgeon would have done it there and then. It's not something you should need to ask for.

I think I must be misunderstanding what has happened and what needs to be done next.

So the plate was nothing to do with what your suggestion as in the need for internal fix of screws or wires. I thought the plate was to support the revision and support the healing of the trochanter.

I am feeling rather sore, confused and a little scared as I have had a rotten day walking wise, in the house.
@Josephine

Sorry to keep asking but I clearly am misunderstanding everything, want to be clear when I see him. Thank you

Keep asking as much as you like, my friend! The internal fixation was ONLY to secure the trochanteric osteotomy. It had nothing to do with the hip. But since he chose not to replace any fixation when he went in there to remove the existing stuff, one can only presume (and hope) that his not replacing it indicated that he felt it was secure enough and I was wrong about that. I can be wrong once in a while! But that's what I saw on the xray.

What I suggest you ask him when next you see him, is this: "Then was the trochanteric osteotomy fixed enough that you could consider it fully united?"
