TKR Recovering at home

Thank you...I've been up since 7 a.m. and I already feel a nap coming on...lol. i noticed a clicking noise the other day, or maybe I just felt it but I guess that's normal. I measured my incision and it's 8 in. long...how long is the average incision? I had a torn Meniscus and several bone spurs along with being bone on bone.

What exactly causes the energy drain?

That energy drain continues for a while. I'm at 10 weeks and I napped several times a day for the first six weeks or so. I'm now doing pretty well, maybe need a nap once in a while, but I'm also getting 8+ hours of sleep a night. Only taking half a tramadol at night (with food), and tylenol. Your mileage may vary. (YMMV).

Hang in there!

Oh my...10 wks...thx for the heads up!

The energy drain can go on for a long time, although it will gradually decrease.
I think it was about 6 months before I stopped having to regulate how much additional activity I did. By then, I would get through the day, but I got a flat period about 7 p.m. when I suddenly felt as if I was "running on empty".

Anyone else develop hives after undergoing a TKR?

@Herewego77 you will notice that I have merged your two threads together as we prefer that members in recovery only have one thread.

This is for three reasons:
1. if you keep starting new threads, you miss the posts others have left you in the old threads
2. it often ends up that information is unnecessarily repeated
3. it's best if we can keep all your recovery story in one place so it's easily accessed if we need to advise you.

Please keep all your questions and updates on this thread. If you would like a new thread title just give a shout.
Anyone else develop hives after undergoing a TKR?
We see this once in awhile on this board. Have you changed your medication recently? Maybe been under increased stress? Or sometimes hives are food related.

Not that I am aware of...I'm using benadryl tyo calm them and doctor put me on a steroid.

What did your doctor say about this?

I actually went to the ER last Sat because I was having trouble swallowing and breathing. ER doctor gave me benadryl, pepsid, and a breathing treatment and said to see my primary care doctor or allergist because hives are a process to diagnose.

Yikes, breathing and swallowing issues are serious. I hope you will be scheduling an appointment with your PCP very soon! Please keep us updated.

All seems to be well...post op visit was fine and don't see surgeon til March. I still have swelling in my left leg in the knee and calf area, ice and elevate but probably not as much as I should. Stopped using cane a few weeks ago, returned to driving two weeks post op and only had one PT session. I decided just returning to my daily routine (other than the heel slides) was enough for me. I still have a lot healing to do but glad I did this and got it behind me.

Sounds pretty good but I'd still like to offer you some structured advice. In order to do that though, I also need to ask you some questions. Are you willing for me to do that?

@Herewego77 you will notice that once again your threads have been merged. Jaycey did it only 10 days ago so you have clearly not taken this on board. Please do NOT keep starting new threads. Read Jaycey's post and please stick with this, your own recovery thread.
