Jimeney crickets cheese and rice was i ever twitchy last night. Could not get comfortable at all, not really pain, more of "umm nope don't like this position, nope not this one either." Leg would you make up your/my mind and let me get some sleep already. The love of my life has restored to sleeping in one of our spare bedrooms and said " when you stop twitching in the middle of the night then i will start to stay the whole night, but for now you have to settle for me staying until you wake me up." Come on leg give me a break. Okay rant over you may return to your normally scheduled program. Peace be with you

Randy, magnesium really helps...I have been taking it for the last month. You find your dose by adding a bit till it gives you a bit of a loose stool then back off. Our bodies use a lot of it during healing. I believe vitamin K2 aids in directing iT to the bones. The other thing that helps is just get up, motor to the kitchen, have a cuppa or some small snack and relax on a comfy chair with your feet up for a few minutes then head back to bed if you don't fall asleep there. Good luck! Ps your wife is sure a great support system for you!

Walked 200 yards this morning with Sue and Zeke along side of me. Boy it felt good to stretch the leg out, yeah a bit tiring also. I will ice tonight for sure.

Just wondering, has someone came up with a theorem on this age old question is?
How far a bathroom is in relationship to how inconvenient and how bad you have to go to said bathroom?
Just wondering

Just know I have to factor in force of needing to go vs ability to hold as well LOL or I end up with puddles I don't want. I now believe the old saying that getting old isn't for the faint of heart! Pretty soon the time between ithinkineedtomove and iamupandwalking will get more automatic and be less of an issue! Have a great recovery day

Holy cow batman, this guy is going to go crazy sitting at home so long. Got the paper work back from the short term disability administrator for our company. They have me out of the office until the 26 of aug. that is a long time to be sitting around doing pt and recoverying. My head will turn to mush and i will have for gotton how to do my job by then.

randy62, has no staples, can drive, and has graduated to crutches!!!! Let the good times roll!!!!!!!

Congratulations randy62. Today was a big day for you!! Simply amazing :puppysmooze: Does it change your return to work date and are you still on any prescription pain meds? I go to my doc on 7/23 and I'm wondering and trying to predict what my instructions will be.

Thanks,
Nancy

nmay51 no and no. Date for return to work stays the same and no drugs during the day no aspirin no Tylenol no opiates. Dr said as long as i am sober during the day time i can drive but the moment i take a pain pill keys get placed away.

How are you doing with the pain and driving etc.? Keeping everything in balance I hope :bicycle1:

Yeah get all my stuff done in the morning so i can nap in the afternoon. Broke down the other day and took a couple of tylenols. I am just freaking out that the pain is gone, now i am kicking myself in the backside for waiting so long to have this done. But I just was not ready. Peace be with you.

There seems to be quite an interesting discussion going on in different threads aBout pain medication. Now mind you what I am going to state here is my opinion mine, I claim it and no you can not have it it is mine. I have been off of all prescribed pain medication since last Wednesday and this was op day plus 16. I take PRN Tylenol and not every day either. I know that i will carry around with us my prescribed medicine just in case i need it. I also know that if I do need it then me taking a tablet is going to leave me in pain until it kicks in, BUT I am willing to take that risk. I have been controlling what pain i do have with breathing exercises and meditation, BUT once again that is me and I am not advocating for you to do this.

The main reason that i have done this is because i do not like the fog brain from taking strong medication. I believe that each person has their own pain level tolerance and that each person is the best judge of what is right for them..
Remember that we all came to this stage in life by different walks and we all will proceed from here on our own different paths. The one thing that we all have in common that binds us tight is that we all have had hip replacements and we have all depended upon one another for support. BeckyR as you can attest to this is really long winded for me. Wow I am proud more then eight words strung together. Lol

randy62 I agree with you. The pain meds made me tired and I felt like my brain was floppy. There is a big difference in what doctors suggest about pain medicine and especially so I think in the US vs. UK. My doctor prescribed Percocet around the clock for two weeks. The expectation after that was that I would taper off and by the end of week three only take the Percocet at night, using either Tylenol or ibuprofen during the day before exercise. I take a prescription ibuprofen for OA in my hands and knees (more surgery one of these days) but have not taken an opiate since week three ended. I still have a few, and will save them in case I have a problem. Looking at Josephine's pain med chart on another page, I was thinking my surgeon would in no way have prescribed them.
There also seems to be a difference between doctors on physical therapy, and that's also reflected in UK/US. I had it at home and then as an outpatient, which seems uncommon in the UK. Everybody seems to do okay, so I guess the systems just work differently.

I was given a list of seven exercises to do while lying in bed three times a day. No other PT at all. So it must be the Drs. Preference as to who gets sent to outside PT.

Warhorse Yes, I think there is wide variation within the US as well. Some have many precautions, others few-some like meds and/or PT, others not. Can't really generalize, but there do seem to be several US/UK variations. It makes sense as doctors train differently. My OS was born and trained in Europe. His precautions and especially post-operative instructions seem different than many other doctors, at least as I have read on BS.
