Hope you find some answers tomorrow, sorry you have to put up with some burning under the patches.

Thanks. I m assuming that the burning is sign that I m reacting to one or more of the patches,it's just a bit nerve racking

Hello my knee friends. I just got back from the patch test and they said the results were negative but I go back tomorrow to get it read again the dermatologist looked at my knee, the red rash and was quite surprized. He went on to explain to me that he doesn't believe that someone could be allergic to their knee and that he thinks that it's cause of being diabetic. I am not diabetic at all and when I told him that he said that even if the patch test came back positive it may have nothing to do with my knee replacement . He said he thinks it is this

Necrobiosis Lipoidica (Diabeticorum)

He had me bawling cause he got upset with me for even mentioning the fact that I could having a reaction to my replacement. I told him that I get a burning rash when I put on cheap jewelry and he was like ,oh,like he never heard of that bfore. He now wants to do a biopsy on the red part and says that if it's this it will keep spreading and sometimes goes to cancer. I just don't understnad. Nothing was there till I got my knee replacement and the only spot I have this rash, red at is my knee replacement. All I can do is sit here and cry. I don't even want to go back tomorrow. I just don't understand how getting a knee replacement can suddenly now make even the word cancer come up. Anyone know anything about this? I m so very tiried of dealing with this whole knee replacement thing. I have reached my emotional bottom. I just can't take much more. Thanks for listening

borymms4,
I am uncomfortable with what you are being told, go back and read the articles I left for you in post #2 about metal allergies. There is a link to a lab that does blood tests for allergies in the second link, you may benefit from that test. You also might want to seek the opinion of an allergy specialist.
I know it is overwhelming, I suggest you seek a second opinion with an OS who specialized in Revisions, you can use the find a clinic button at the top of the page, most web sites will list if the OS does revisions, or complex knee reconstruction. You can also call and ask the office. The have the experience to determine what is going on with your knee and give you an accurate diagnosis.
I am going to tag @1ELISEA for you, she has excellent information about metal allergies, it may take awhile as she is not on the forum often.
@RunA42K , recently had her 2nd revision due to a metal allergy that was finally detected, she is doing well with her most recent revision.
@Josephine can help answer your concerns about metal allergies.
:console2:

Thank u I will take any help, advise I can get rite now. It has just been a long and terrible road since I had my accident and I thought the replacement would be the answer for me to function again, thanks for helping and listening

I agree with Tim (referee54). It sounds as if you need further, specific testing and a second opinion from someone who has actually heard of allergies to the metal in implants.

I had a look on the internet at the photos of Necrobiosis Lipoidica (Diabeticorum) and it doesn't look much like your rash.

That doctor sounds like an idiot! Never heard of metal/nickel allergy? What kind of dermatologist is he, for pity's sake? I think you should cut adrift from him and find someone who at least has better knowledge of these common allergies.
He now wants to do a biopsy on the red part and says that if it's this it will keep spreading and sometimes goes to cancer.
Please don't listen to him. I've never heard such tripe. Find yourself a revision surgeon and forget all about this chump.

Thank u all for ur support. I was a mess, had to take something to calm myself down. He actually couldn't wait to do the biopsy, said he was going to it rite now, during the visit. I said no cause I would think I would have to take some antibiotics just link any other procedures. He then said that he has concerns on how to do it since it is over my replacement and never did it before over a replacement. I m supposed to see him tomorrow cause he is talked to the surgeon bout it

I think you really need to see a new OS that does revisions. Unfortunately you seem to be caught in a group of doctors that aren't up to the task of giving you the best care. It seems like only your family doctor knows his stuff. How did you get the name of the doctor to have the allergy testing? I'm traveling just over an hour away from my home to see a doctor who is experienced in revisions. While I would love to have a doctor closer to me I need someone who really knows what they are doing to get my revision right.

I got the dermatologist I saw today through my os. They set up the appt. And everything . My hubby is pretty upset too so I told him what u all r saying and he agreed to call out of our area, there is a place about 1 hr. Away from us that u m going to call

I really think that's the best idea. I'm going down to Allentown now from up in the Poconos. Just make sure you can find a doctor that specializes in revisions in case you need one.

Thabks. I left a message a specialist hospital in reading pa. They r closed now but hopefully they will call back. It's a bone and joint hospital, thank u all for being so supportive

Whoa, the rash appeared over night. The rash is a huge difference from the photo with the patches above. Glad you are seeking second opinions, you need some answers.
Good luck, and hope you do not have too much irritation from that rash.
