TKR Patience not my virtue

But...but...it doesn't have to be a *lot* of food. One bite of something that's gone bad or off can cause tummy upset!
Years ago I only had a few tea spoons of a sorbet and all three of us who had that one sorbet got very ill.
I was just " tasting"

Uh-oh, you didn't need this complication; aarggh!

@Celle & @sistersinhim thank you! Looks like I did this to myself when I decided I had enough of fighting the constipation and dropped the Tylenol 3. Never really gave it a thought at the time but obviously should have been a weaning process. One of those live and learn experiences. Happy to report I am feeling much better this afternoon! Will be sticking with extra strength Tylenol for now and will remember this lesson when I get my left knee done.

I'm glad those nasty pains are going. Codeine makes me vomit relentlessly, so I don't ever take it, but my one experience with it was horrible.

Happy to hear you're feeling better! I also had a bout of loose bowels after quitting my painkillers abruptly. Not my smartest move, and not completely sure if that's what caused it, but it sure was a miserable experience!

@Canada35 don't worry about your ROM. You're doing great at 8wks! And don't let that pt tell you it's your fault that your ROM is not as much as HE wants. I did have to have a manipulation at 12wks, but mine was much lower than yours and wouldn't budge.
I'm 3wks out of other knee being done and my OS said that he just wants 90 at 6wks. He did say that pt likes it a lot sooner.
As far as the stiffness, at 12wks I was just starting to get looser, so it will come.
You're doing awesome and I believe that your OS will be happy with your progress.

@Mister Did your MUA solve your Bend issues? Was it like going back to square one when you first had your TKR?
Wishing you good luck on knee 2. My OS is ready to sign me up for my second knee but I was not ready!! Perhaps will get on the list at my next appointment in August.

@Canada35 yes, my mua worked very well for me. I was stuck at 78 for weeks, when I had my mua, I only got to 105, but I consider that a great number. My os and pt were thrilled and said I would be able to live life with that number. They also said rom would probably increase and it has. Don't know the number, but it has. My straightening is at -8, but nobody is worried about it and says it will come in time now that I have my bend.

As far as starting over, there are different opinions on whether it does or not, but for me, I feel like it did some, but not all the way back. I'll be honest, I was expecting to just be sore, but I wasn't, for me it hurt, I was very upset by that. I ended up taking a week and a half off work and then went back pt because of having pt everyday. Also, I had to use a cpm machine 6hrs a day, talk about exhausting. But for me it was all worth it that first day I went to pt after, I cried because I could finally bend.
Sorry this is so long, but I wanted you to have all the information possible so you could make an informed decision.
Good luck, I am here for you whatever decision you make.

Just arrived home from seeing my own PT who's philosophy is much more aligned with the Bonesmart ways. He changed a few of the exercises I have been doing, did some muscle massage on my calf and foot and a laser treatment. I was able to easily use his small pedal machine to warm up. The whole session caused some slight discomfort but no pain. Hoping to see some real improvements over the coming weeks with him!

@Canada35 good luck with your PT, it sounds so promising! I'm on the lookout for a new PT in Kitchener so let me know how it goes, maybe you wouldn't mind letting me know more, maybe they could help me as well?

This sounds very promising @Canada35! I'm really glad to hear your regular therapist is back.

Slight discomfort=par for the course. Bummer, but...there it is, lol.

Most PT is designed to produce discomfort. They're challenging the joint, and the joint is going, "Seriously?" And sometimes it isn't such a bad thing. I found some PT exercises quite useful in showing me what I could do now. The balance ones were especially helpful. At home after, though, always some discomfort. It was inevitable. *sigh*

I've often thought that it would be a good idea to skip PT for the first 3 months and just let the activities of daily living be your exercise, but going to PT at 3 months post-op, to work on balance and gait, would be a good idea.

Woot! Woot! Got all the way around on my exercise bike today and was able to pedal away for 4-5 minutes before any crankiness happened! Is this a sign? Oooooh here's hoping!
