PKR Patella femoral replacement fails after 1 year

surgchic17,
Sorry to hear you are still suffering, hope you can find a skilled OS that specializes in revisions to convert your PKR's to TKR's.

@surgchic17, with all of the problems you had I wouldn’t settle for being told that TKR is not an option due to lack of arthritis in the other compartments. If TKR is the best option for completely resolving your issues, then push back.

@NavyGunns you are so right.

@surgchic17 you really do need to do this. All these 'reasons' for not doing a TKR aren't valid, they are excuses. I think you need to search farther afield to find a surgeon who will treat you properly. For sure a TKR IS the answer to your problems, no matter how old (or young!) you are. Lots of youngsters on here have had TKRs, 20 years, 16 years. You cannot put it off because you think you are 'too young'. You are wasting your life away unnecessarily.

I have been told that my tibia tubercles are out of alignment 20mm right left 19mm and that I could have a TTO but they don't recommend it because of the recovery.
To add to what your surgeons and Josephine have said:
It is a long and painful recovery from a TTO.
Many times, a TTO does not work for long and is just a temporary fix, after which you end up having a TKR anyway.

I would avoid the TTO and go ahead with the TKR, which should be a permanent fix, lasting for 30-40 years.

After reading through this thread I have a question. I’m having a patello femoral replacement next month and my problem stems from maltracking of patella too. My question, which I meant to ask my OS but forgot is...the surgery SHOULD fix the maltracking, right? How is this assured? Anything I need to be doing postop to aid this?

Sorry, but I’m a newbie here. I feel so sorry for surgchic17. Hope you were able to get it fixed.

Tara

Hello! so I just saw your message and to answer your question. The patellar femoral replacement is not going to address the malt racking as my maltrscking was caused by my tibia turbacle not being measured properly preoperatively to ensure proper tracking after my partial replacement . The replacement however will address the arthritis you have in your patella femoral compartment. The malt racking should either be adressed before or during your surgery 10-15 mm tt-tg distance is the norm anything more than that is not. Mine was 20 I had a tibia turbacle osteotomy recently after trying to recover from an improperly done replacementt from 2016 now surgeons are trying to fix what was initially done wrong from the beginning. A tibia turbacle osteotomy is usually done as last resort before a patella femoral replacement but I wouldn't know because my surgeon screwed up this is how she left my knees and this is why I'm having complications. Make sure for the love of god that your TT-TG distance is measured before of you will have this problem.
