TKR Pain 2 years after TKR

I was able to sleep on my right, operated side, too. I had my right knee bend a little and the left knee bend a lot over my thigh. It worked for me.

Lovetocookandsew so glad all is well with hubby.
Its 2.15am here and I have been awake since 1.30am. I have to admit to being in pain rather than just discomfort tonight. I have taken meds regularly lately even though only dihydrocodeine twice a day and paracetamol and can't take any more till 5am. Pain is going up and down my leg stopping me sleeping. I am not a happy bunny tonight.

Get yourself on ice and elevate that knee. It really works for me. I am sorry that you're having such a rough time, and hope everything settles down soon. I wonder if some of it has to do with your house guests. I found myself doing more when mine were here, even though I didn't think I was or realize I was.

You are probably right and although I don't realise it I am probably doing more than I should. Baby has been coming to me and putting his hands up wanting picked up and I have been doing it which may have been a mistake. Also I have been sitting at a table playing board games with the older grandson so my leg has been down a fair bit. I am hoping daughter is going to strip the beds and get the washing on - towels etc plus hoover and polish before she goes. I know if she doesn't I will find myself trying to do it as I have lived in a mess all week and it's driving me mad.

At about a month post op I was able to sleep on my operated right side for a few hours by placing my left leg over my right thigh. It didn’t last all night, but felt good for a few hours.

I get the frustration-I spent more time in my room when my company was here due to the cluttered rooms and the inability to safely navigate. I enjoy board games with my granddaughter, but can't play them right now, so we spend time snuggling and watching fun movies on my bedroom TV so I can ice and elevate while watching. This gives us special time, we can talk and giggle, and I don't overdo. If your daughter doesn't clean before she goes, DON'T DO IT YOURSELF! Wait and let your husband do it. This will have a double benefit-you won't overdo by cleaning and hubby will see the mess she left and hopefully speak with her about it. But I hope she does clean her and her family's mess before she goes.

Have you tried using a tray at the chair you can elevate on to play games? I’m betting the pain is due to your leg being down so much.

Still can't sleep. This is awful tonight. 3.25am. I just really want a night's sleep. Getting myself so upset tonight.
I think daughter will clean up. At least all the toys will be away and furniture put back in its right place.
Going to try for some sleep. You would think as you are so tired sleep would come easily. No chance of that then. May try lying on my side and see how I get on.

The blue light emitted by mobile phones and tablets is a known cause of insomnia. Something about the effect of the quality of the light affecting sleep/wake cycles.
I can quite understand that it's helpful to go online when wakeful but it really might be making things worse.
Read a book or listen to an audio book? The more boring the better!

I;m sorry you're having such a bad night, Molly. Since you've been taking your medications regularly, for sure the pain is the result of doing too much. It's all too easy to overdo things when you have company, especially if it's an adorable grand-baby.

Don't lie there hoping your daughter will vacuum and tidy up - ask her. Tell her you've had a sleepless night because the pain was so bad. It's time for her to pay back all the caring you did for her when she was a child.

Your main job right now is to rest and let your knee heal, not to worry about the housework.
Nurturing mother: how to let go and accept help

Yes @Celle. Ask your daughter, don't wait and hope for the best. After they've gone you can relax and snooze maybe? I hope so.

Eventually after some tears I did doze off. Woke up for some paracetamol then dozed again. Knee seems very swollen and is nipping up and down leg. Yes I agree with you all although I didn't do much yesterday my leg was down a lot. We really needed to sit at the table to play the games.
I have told daughter this morning I have been awake in pain so she needs to do the cleaning up before she leaves as I am too sore to do it.
I will miss her and the boys mind you.

Have you got the rain? We have. That and lower temperature seems to make my knee ache a bit more and throw out painful zingers. The only relief is by walking up and down. Luckily I'm still on such a high from yesterday's PT assessment. He told me among other things to try sleeping on my stomach. I did try but it felt like a strand of barbed wire down the front of my knee!
Enjoy the calm after the family leaves.

Yes Spex10 it's much cooler today and it's raining. Could be the reason for it nipping so much. I have a friend here who has had a hip and pelvis replacement and she says even going down the freezer isle in the supermarket causes her pain. Glad you had a good assessment with physio.

Ooyah! Pelvis replacement. Gosh. There's always someone worse off. It's so miserable here that I can't bear the prospect of icing today. Hope you feel a bit easier soon.

It's not a day to want to ice is it Spex10. After all this lovely weather I had to put some heating on as I was cold.
Daughter getting packed up.

I'm warmly wrapped up. Have even got my Ugg slipper boots on. It's pouring here now. Good for the gardens though.
Stay cosy!

First time with a sweatshirt on for weeks. Still raining. Daughter now gone. No toys lying around and everywhere tidy. Beds stripped and remade and hoovering all done. Furniture back in place :dancy:. Now sitting icing and relaxing. Hubby back tomorrow.
