Hi all. This is @craftdee here Fifi's sister - I've just popped on to let you know that Fifi made it through to the "Hippy" side... had a really rough start with mega nausea and vomiting  (despite having spinal)), which she'll share when she has access to Bonesmart; the hospital she's in has internet but for some reason she's having trouble logging in to post herself. She can however get to see the site and would like to thank you all for your good wishes

I think that she's in hospital for another couple of days at least... she only got out of bed for the first time 5pm yesterday so she'll be in for a few more days, they're building her blood proteins up now so hopefully it's full steam ahead from here

If there's any more updates that she is unable to post herself I'll be back. Otherwise keep sending your healing thoughts, she appreciates each and every one

Donna... for Fi

Hi, Fifi.....good to see things leveling out for you after that rocky beginning to your recovery. Hang in there!!! It does get better. Next stop - home!

Fifi, good to hear you came through your surgery and knowing your recovery will smooth out for you as the days go by. Hoping you are resting comfortably and with good pain management.

Know that each day will get better and you will soon be celebrating that brand new hip, April Rainbow

@FiFi I read your PreOp thread where you were asking such great questions and getting some equally great answers. I just stayed silent ... until now. I'm so sorry to read that you had a tough start; but, here's hoping that the rest of your recovery will be smooth and uneventful. I'm rooting for your and sending you my very best healing wishes!

Rough start @FiFi, I just hope the puking has stopped for good now, what an awful thing - do they think it was the morphine pump? It can only get better after that - hopefully the shiny new hip and your wound is making the most of all the extra rest  but that you can now start to test it out. With such a sweet little sister keeping an eye on things, you won't need to worry about head-swirling tablet screens for a bit, just as well!!!

Thinking strong waves of strength and happiness over the deserts and down to you there:console2:xxx

Please send my best thoughts to her, we all react diff to the shock the body goes thru. Im sure it will pass. Look forward to her chirpy posts resuming.

Hello @FiFi. Congratulations for having made it through surgery. I hope the vomiting has stopped by now. Just checking in to send you all my best wishes for your recovery - from the other side of the world.
Constanze

Hi @FiFi, I am glad that your surgery is over and you have your brand new hip. Sorry about your other troubles though. I too had extreme nausea and vomiting after my surgeries( spinal with sedation), mine was related to the morphine pump. Once they gave me the right anti nausea meds then things were better.

@ Fifi What a sweet sister to be there for you! Okay, dues paid, hope all is better today and going forward. :friends:

Hi Fifi,
Good to hear from you via your sister. What a rough start. When I was concerned pre op about vomiting I was assured that they can control vomiting now a days, I found out that was not the case. I believe mine was from the medication as my giddiness and nausea stopped when I changed to just paracetamol/tyelnol after a few days. Mine was nowhere as bad as yours. So best wishes , good vibes and lots of healing sent to you across the miles XX

:elevate: Hi there Fifi so sorry to hear that you are off to a rough start but happy to hear that you are on the other side. I'll be keeping you in my thoughts as you recover and here's hoping that the worst is over.

All my best,

:loveshwr:Jojo

@craftdee and @FiFi Hi everyone is behind you with healing love flying around the planet from every direction, close your eyes and let it flow over you xxxx Mags

Hi @FiFi - welcome to the start of your recovery. I thought you might like to get a snapshot of where you are in the process of healing when you feel up to reading - well done Sandgroper :)

The following is a link to an article which provides the current science regarding the healing beneath and around the implant and the medically acknowledged approximate timeframes for our bodies healing phases and processes.

Healing Phases & Nutrition

Nutrition plays a huge part in surgical recovery, in fact it is one of the 'forgotten topics' of recovery..

Well folks... it's @craftdee here again for the mysterious Fifi.

Unfortunately it's not been a stellar experience for her, she's still in hospital; the usual issues with pain management and nausea etc have been addressed but her wound is simply refusing to stop oozing:eeeuw:

We all thought today was finally coming home day, but as at 9am it was deemed the 'normal' dressing just wasn't cutting it so it's back to the suction dressing for Fi :tantrum: the OS is very keen for the wound to be as "dry" as possible to avert the risk of infection. He hasn't said how long it needs to be on... about the same length as a piece of string, I guess

The lovely bush setting that she lives in brings it's own challenges with recovery; she'll be taking an all terrain walker home with her as her toilet is a distance from the house with gravel and twigs as added challenges... the risk of infection may be considered higher with these conditions, nobody has said, but it's probably more likely that she lives 17km from the nearest (very small) town, village really, and 50+km from the hospital equipped to deal with post op dramas... I'm sure it's best that they have the healing process as far on the right track as possible, but as you can imagine "frustrated" doesn't begin to describe how she's feeling:tantrum2:

Added to the mix is the fact that all her family and many of her friends live here in Perth 400km away - simply too far for us to go and put our arms around her... Her partner goes to see her daily, 100+km round trip I'm sure he'll be glad to stop doing! but there's not much else going on to distract her. We were relying on good telecommunications and they are in fact abysmal; her iphone doesn't work at all for calls, texts can take hours to send so a "real time" conversation is difficult at best, her bedside phone is linked to the computer so it too is "hit and miss" - and she can't call out on it anyway! I've been texting to tell her to be by her bedside phone so I can call - honestly you'd think it was 1955 not 2015!! All this at a time when you feel vulnerable and needing support. She can't log in to Bonesmart to add comments but can read those made by others and is doing so!! So please leave her some love, cyber hugs really count when the real hugs aren't available :loveshwr:

Oh @FiFi...sorry it's a rougher ride than you would have expected, but you have done it and in time things will get better and better! You have a wonderful sister but you also have huge hugs wrapping round you and sending support from the UK!:tada:xxx

Glad to hear that the nausea business got straightened out; but, I'm so sorry that your incision isn't behaving the way your OS wants -- that's got to be beyond frustrating. Here's hoping that by the time you read this post you will have heard the words, " Let's discharge her!" Please know that I'm thinking about you and sending my best wishes for The Great Escape! Hang in there.

Dear Fifi sorry things are not going as hoped. Sounds like you are in good hands and have wonderful support from your sister nearby. Stay strong, the incision will heal, the nausea will pass, and all of your rainbow buddies & supporters will send well wishes and prayers your way! Hope things are going your way now :loveshwr::loveshwr:
