Thank you for keeping us updated in FiFi' bumpy recovery. Pass on my best wishes. I too had a hard time ties vomiting the first hip so no Dilaudid for me this time around.

Just a thought, how about a commode for her inside the house so she doesn't have to navigate the gravel path?

Great big hugs over to you @FiFi, and really hope that wound settles down quickly and you get that magic discharge very soon.
:roseshwr:
It was our concerns about getting/managing at home that started us off on our conversations, and in the end those things turned out not to be the real hurdles. From the number of times I am up and down in the night for a pee (drinking lots to flush!), I think a commode is going to be invaluable for you - don't fancy that night time gravel path freezing winds journey for you at all. At least the snakes are going to sleep at this time of year :yikes:! Use those hospital contacts to get working for you if you feel up to it, so it can be ready for you when you get there.

Hope your dear Marty is keeping himself sane and also keeping you fed with some kind of nutritious delights as you can manage, and that your pain levels are below 1 mostly and the nurses and physios are kind and beautiful. xxx Jan

ps: and thanks so much @craftdee for the updates too!

Don't worry ladies... Fifi is not backward at going forward - the commode (and a whole raft of other useful aids) is in hand for when she gets home.... WHEN being the operative. Today's "plan" is: suction dressing is back on until Friday morning when it will be removed, if there is "little" ooze a standard dressing will be applied; this will be checked on Friday afternoon - if it has held up (no ooze) she will be allowed home. If there IS ooze... back on goes the suction dressing for a couple of days..... "rinse and repeat" not the dressing... you know what I mean :heehee:

She was understandably upset yesterday morning as she was sure she was going home:boohoo:... having looked at it "sensibly" she realizes that hospital is not only the best place but as far as her OS is concerned the ONLY place this process can take place. Interestingly her surgeon is the surgeon my son had when he had the accident resulting in the amputation of his Great toe and its neighbour two years ago... and that was "up here" not the 400km away that Fifi lives... what are the chances??! :tada: He's a good surgeon, great guy with a no nonsense approach; I trusted him implicitly and Fifi does too... so it makes sense to follow his advice. Not easy, but now she's got her head around it, somewhat easier.

Having had a Nurse Ratched experience didn't help... telling her she should try and breathe through the pain instead of taking meds the other night had her in tears by morning.... and the ol' "most people only need Tylenol by now" at day five was probably the last straw for Fi regarding "Nasty Nurse" :censored:

Fi's still reading Bonesmart, wants me to thank you for your lovely hugs and best wishes... hopefully she'll be banging out a detailed statement of events from her home on Saturday morning... cross everything :fingersx:

Donna.. for Fiona... you know the drill :loll:

Nurse Ratchitt! Curses!
I had a home health nurse visit me yesterday to go through my home to make sure I'll be all set: raised seat for toilet, stable shower seat with back, handhold for shower, etc. One thing she did emphasize is that I get the OS's protocol. It will have the surgeon's specific prescriptions. I bet denying pain meds is not on there!
Sending hugs from Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

Hi @FiFi
If you were here we would be in the local pub discussing our respective nurse ratchets, our hips and our vomiting. What a lot we have in common lol. I hope you get out as soon as is sensible! Silly question. What is the oozing? It it infection, allergy or normal part of healing?

Look after yourself xx

Hi @FiFi, la Princess! OK, concentrating on Friday for your release - just checked weather for Albany, and there is only 30% chance of shower on Friday and for the next few days even less, so obviously, all will work out and they will let you out. Just so you can let them know you have done your research ok?
:reading:
Awful to hear about your nasty nurse (why do people do that job if they don't like people?) - I was lucky, all mine were lovely - but the XRay blokes: uncaring, unsympathetic B's!!! I cried all the way back. I seem to have cried a bit according to my diary - but I always did feel better after a good blub.

Hope there is no cause for blubbing your end today, and that you get out in time to beat the Friday arvo rush!!! :)

Nurse Ratchitt!!! She has a nerve! I hope she stays down under and doesn't take a trip to Rhode Island.
Don't worry about the extra time in the hospital. Before you know it you will will be home.

Hang in there, Fifi! There will be good and bad days, hope you are having a good one today. This all takes time and can be very distressing and frustrating.

Thinking of you @FiFi I did a big vibe to you, concentrating on "ooze be gone". You can now be the judge of whether vibes really work! On a serious note it must seem like an eternity but before you know it you will be home and the real healing will begin. Can't wait to here you are home!! (tears in the eyes) x

@FiFi you are such a sweet one....so glad your sister can keep up us up-to-date... I have some things taking me away from being able to post and find myself having to do catch-up...

Keeping you in my heart-thoughts and ((((prayers))) and love seeing our awesome BS buddies doing a mighty roar like lion to her cubs.....for the sorry & horrible person who is not a "nurse" in any sense of the word, nurses are primary support to patient, even before the doctor, and the true calling and vocation was founded on #1 compassion; #2 caring skill; #3 medical knowledge and good communicator to the doctor for her patient's needs and successful recovery.
Stay strong, you only deserve the best :loveshwr:and know you join in with "loud roar" with us :yahoo:that blows deceptor dead-beat "nurses".... who shall never comprehend or come to a Rainbow - - only kind, caring, spirited people are allowed to see the power of the Rainbow and know it's amazing blessing. It's a well-earned Rainbow for you, Fifi, on so many levels, knowing your pre-op caring & kindness and your sweet-spirit, we April Rainbow buddies have been blessed to get to know know and love on this journey !!!

You know Rainbow Wishes only come true...and I know your Rainbow is continuing to beam you up, sweetie, to feel stronger and better and better (and as each of us who are moving through our recovery and healing these days), it will come to where all of us will join together beyond the recovery days, the healing, pacing and taking great care as for each of us too, continuing to be in the recovery and healing pacing and with great care and I see all of us coming together celebrating - - like no other party ever !!!
:loveshwr: :dancy::dancy: :dancy::dancy::dancy::dancy: :loveshwr:
under the glow of all those well-earned recoveries :welome: in body & spirit with true certainty, only "more good will follow our path as "Amazing April Rainbows" and we continue to see each of us writing new chapters of our deepest desires & wishes - - living more fully and joyfully !!

:flwrysmile:Mucho (((Hugs))) + Rainbow Wishes = Coming True, dear Fifi :roseshwr:

I'll make it quick (for me :heehee:) ... Fifi is NOT home; after (finally!!) looking at her wound today the surgeon deemed she was experiencing a reaction to the staples (wound is quite red in places, but no other signs of infection, thank goodness!) so removed them; if you recall the wound has been NOT healing, the reason she's been kept in - subsequently when the staples holding it together were removed, it bled. Long story short, she's still in hospital :tantrum:

Another one of the Surgeon's "team" are going to check on her tomorrow morning, if a) it's better or b) she can bamboozle new team member as he'll be unsure of the history she'll be on the way home tomorrow. :prayer:

Of course we've had the discussion, that if it's about risk of infection that is the biggest factor, she'll have to make the decision if the risk level is acceptable. It would appear infection is NOT the issue, so she's going to quiz the Dr tomorrow (quite closely and with a club in her hand by now, I should think) as to exactly WHAT is the benefit of staying in a hospital more than 60km from her home over being in her home and liaising with her General Practitioner and (admittedly small) "cottage" hospital 16km away... especially in view of the fact that her partner is home with her all day and therefore available for both general assistance and emergency dashes!! At the moment all his time is taken up with doing the almost 140km round trip to see her/support her/stop her going completely doolally :tiredwheel:

Hopefully you'll be hearing from "the real deal Fifi" tomorrow, and not her substitute:)

Donna

@FiFi - sending you well wishes to go home ! :praying:

@craftdee - thank you for keeping us informed. I was feeling blue today and after reading of
Fifi's troubles, I have a different perspective

Hello Fifi (and @craftdee )
I was wondering if you were having an allergy/sensitivity reaction. I did, but not until 10 days after the op so was home thank goodness. My major reaction was to the internal stitches, general pus and oozing and antibiotics but more alarming to me was when the internal stitches came out, about week 3- 5 from my memory. They call it "spitting " out! From my vaste experience (ha ha) if I were you I would take photos if this happens as I was not believed until I produced photo's of the stitches on the next appointment! FYI I had large internal stitches/knots at each end, looked like tennis racquet thread, then lots of little snippets of thread like light bulb filament. I would feel burning, itching then fizzing and a pop when they came out.

I only reacted to the outside stitches with redness and burning little inflammation and no infection.

This certainly was my most soul destroying part of the process.

However it did go and everything came fine.
I would suggest:
1. No Bio oil or other products for massaging - (I had a reaction to Bio oil). I strongly feel once you are over the allergy it is best to let your wonderful skin heal by itself!
2. Once home take photo's so you cannot be disbelieved.

Oh Fifi look after yourself and get home as soon as it is safe to do so (as if you need telling!)

Love
Karen
