TKR One day at a time

I needed that chuckle today!! :loll:

Not that it's always good to compare and contrast but what the heck, compared to the first one, this recovery is remarkably better. I attribute much of it to improved surgical processes and pain control modalities as opposed to me being older, wiser and experienced lol. Same doc, same patient.

I have less swelling, better ROM, feel better, moving better and playing it *smarter* by being much less aggressive from the get go. Home PT (super gentle) finishes tomorrow and then I'll move into functional PT. Doing nothing, except healing, means I don't fatigue and I don't sleep well so I've had to lower my expectations for that. So be it. It'll come when I get back to my normal routine.

I can drive (off opioids), walk short loops with no aids, actually can go up a few stairs foot over foot but still ouchy yet. Overall, one of the lucky ones recovering so well but takes a boat load of patience. The light is on even at this early stage. Nothing stopping this girl from getting back on the course. Here and there you'll get a day warm enough to play and 9 holes is an accomplishment for sure. Great to hear!

@Carpediem - you will see that I have copied several of your posts from Spider-man's thread into your own thread. I've edited them, so they fit in your thread, and I have removed the parts that talk about your recovery in his thread.

By putting those posts in his recovery thread, you were disrupting his thread, which should be about his own recovery, not yours. I also noted that several of the things you said about your own recovery in his thread had not been mentioned in your own thread.
Forum etiquette: being polite when posting

It's OK to have a conversation with Spider-man, but remember that on his thread you should talk about his recovery, not yours.

Please post any updates or questions about your recovery in your own thread. We will see them there, as someone checks all the new posts every day.
If you need an urgent response to a question, just tag a member of staff.

If you prefer a different thread title, just post what you want and we'll get it changed for you.

Just in case you couldn't find your thread, here are the instructions on finding your thread,

You are doing great for two weeks. I am seeing you on a golf cart doing 9 holes this summer. Or maybe 18?

Can someone change the title of my recovery thread to "Scar treatment"
I'm looking for advice or experience with scar treatments. I just started using a product called ScarAway which are silicone scar sheets for the "prevention and treatment of scars". I'm at 4 weeks and giving this product a try. My PT has had patients who've had good outcomes using silicone sheets.

I don’t know if any treatment for scar really work. I used a vitamin E oil. I think I really like the massaging the knee! Maybe a placebo effect? My husband did nothing for his knee scars, and they are fine.

I really wouldn't worry about it. The scar will almost disappear in a year or so.

You don't need to do anything for your scar. Mother Nature has been healing scars for a long, long time, and she knows what she's doing. Given time, the scar swill fade to a thin, white line and all the lumps and bumps will even out. That will happen, regardless of anything you use on your scar.

Those silicone sheets are used to treat keloid and hypertrophic scars. They aren't necessary unless that is what you have.

I haven't changed your thread title. On the whole, it's best to have a title that you are happy to have for a long time, and don't need changing frequently.
The advisory staff on BoneSmart are all volunteers and we'd prefer to spend our time advising people who need help, rather than frequently changing thread titles.
Since, between us, the staff read all new posts daily, we won't miss any new question you have.

I used Palmer's cocoa butter with vitamin E religiously with my first knee. Less so with my second. I just used regular moisturizer on my wrist surgery scar. Same results for all 3--a barely visible scar you can only see if you look for it.

Thanks for reassurances about the scar. Mine isn't bad, just thought I could make it better.

Back to the sleep thing. Some nights are finally getting better. There really isn't a quick fix and I've tried a few. Sure has been a roller coaster ride. In my 5th week and happy with steady gains. PT is work but feels good to move in more "normal" ways...then the tightness returns. Tried foot over foot on the stairs and got it this week, not pretty tho! Oh how the little victories put a smile on our faces :)

Same here! It’s rare that I ever have stairs to do, so mastering it may not happen. I don’t feel pain when I step up on my new knee, but it just feels so very weird, I don’t like it! And, because I hardly have to step up on more than a curb, which I can do, my leg strength is not there.

Congrats on the foot over foot on the stairs. When I started doing stairs the normal way, I didn't do a whole flight that way at a time, but gradually worked up to it.

This is not monumental but after 2 months of recovery it's time to return to work and hopefully get closer to what I remember being a typical day in my life. So much for unending hours of Netflix and munchies! I chose PT as I did with #1 and with good success but within parameters I controlled. Sleep is still irregular but hope is on the horizon. It's so important to "roll with it" because in time, you do adapt. Sure, there's still a need for some pain control and there are still good days and not so good days. I suppose after succumbing to the reality of how slow this was going to be, I became more tolerant. Maybe with age and experience truly does come wisdom. Here's to returning to the work force! Cheers!

You sound like me! I watch so much Netflix during the early weeks, i didn’t know if I saw it on Netflix, dreamed it or lived it! I went back to work at 8 weeks,I do work from home. Honestly, only the past couple of weeks do I sleep regular hours, and don’t feel so exhausted.

I think this is very true, that’s a good way of saying it!
