Bilateral THR Oh 'dreams' exactly as visioned

Thanks Layla. It must be the surgery and as I was unable to eat the first 2 weeks and my appetite has diminished I suspect it was a combination of the two. I eat all those things and rarely if ever take supplements but my best feature has become my worst well save the hips.

You'e very welcome!
You could always consider one of those Hair Skin Nails type of supplements also.
I supplement with one and believe I find some benefit.

As woman it seems to be in our nature to get hung up on our hair. If yours is misbehaving, you may need to
step up your game in another way. After days of looking like a schlump and growing weary of that reflection in the mirror upon using the bathroom, I started applying minimal makeup and even throwing a few curlers in my hair to start out the day. It made me feel better, it truly did. I felt more like myself than the patient I'd become.

Love me a little lipstick....brightens up the face. Whatever it takes, I guess. We all have to find what works for us. Call me shallow, I can derive happiness from twisting a tube of lipstick and applying it :rotfl:

Make today a good day!

Thank you Mojo33 and a bilateral sis as well. I'm with you. I will see my own private PT who is of the less is more philosophy and she is also an osteopath and has been everywhere. I survived this long with her. I just do not want at present to forfeit certain things afforded me. One is in a vulnerable place and it is difficult to forego assistance until stronger. And as you say early days. I am the impatient sort though.

My daughter had hair loss at the age of 23 after a bad breakup. It continued for about 6 months. Good news is it all grew back and she now has beautiful long hair. Probably the trama of surgery for you. I don’t think there’s anything you can do to prevent it from happening, but I’m pretty sure it will grow back.
I started a daily protein shake and multivitamin regime along with daily glucosamine, cranberry supplements and iron pill 3x/week. Not sure if it’s necessary, but more of an insurance policy if I don’t eat properly everyday.

Layla has sent me to a good article and thanks for the input. I am definitely eating better at home as I did not eat in the hospital and the first week home was touch and go.I think a shower would help as well.Would it ever.
On the bright side the PT came here an we walked up and down the street together she holding my left arm and I had a cane in the right. I was telling her my muscles seize--thigh, buttocks and in the groin. She has not had any experience with this. I said I would not go back to the hospital for the 6 week appointment if I was unable to walk at least with assistance. She is adamant so she is faxing the OS --they are the liaison--to ask about this problem. Oh boy they don't know me.

You are only at day 18 and the six week followup is day 42... a long way off. You will be amazed how much you improve by then! Everyone is different and progresses at different rates; my experience was gradual, almost miniscule improvement until about week 5 and then I progressed rapidly. Now I've plateaued, but very happy for 6 1/2 weeks out considering lack of conditioning pre-surgery. Be a patient patient, I know it's difficult, but it will come!

Hi Mikeycat, my hair is falling out more than usual but not like bare spots. I think its stress for me because I'm eating well, tho not a great appetite I still make myself eat and eat healthy as possible. When you feel better, try 4 raw egg yolks, not the white part, 2 tablespoons of honey, and 2 tablespoons of a good extra virgin olive oil. Mix this together and work through your dry hair, place plastic head wrap on and warm towel for 30 minutes once a week. I've used this a long time, my hair feels good and does not fall out so much and it feels thicker and looks healthier.

Oh yea, wash with shampoo after 30 minutes.:rotfl:

@Cecropia :rofsign:

Protein, ladies. Don't forget protein. It helps repair muscle damage by regenerating tissue and speeding up wound healing. It's also important for hair growth. Following are some protein snack ideas if you're not up to eating full meals -

Nuts
Trail Mix
Turkey roll ups (cheese or veggies rolled inside the turkey)
Greek Yogurt
Cottage Cheese
Hard Boiled Eggs
Tuna
Veggies & Hummus
Peanut Butter and Apple
Peanut Butter on Celery
Cheese Slices
Beef Sticks
Protein Bars
Protein Shakes
Canned Salmon on Crackers
Edamame
Chicken Salad
No Bake Energy Bites (many online recipes)

Thanks for all the tips. I will try that hair recipe seeing that my hair looks dead anyway. I eat well and have access to organic stuff down the street as the farmers bring in their produce and we pay yearly for it. The grocery store has everything and then some and is about 400yrds. from my house as are all the restaurants--culinary city.I am thoroughly exhausted today from the walk down the street with the PT yesterday. She had my left side and I had a cane in my right. I cleared my doozy stairs easily.Since we have construction in the street in front of my house there is only access for the locals so we walked in the street as it is blocked to any other traffic.I ran 2 marathons it feels.I also feel I am in some kind of pilot project because the attention I am getting and the services is mind-boggling. Something is up. My husband agrees and says I am usually right with my suspicions as I am so observant and focused.I think my OS is in close liaison with the PT. She actually said she is calling him tomorrow.

Sounds like you won't starve anytime soon. Fresh organic produce down the street, how lucky you are!
I imagine the walk would tire you out. You made it through, you should be proud.
It sounds like the attention you're getting from PT is benefiting you, which is all that matters. You're mastering the basics, like navigating stairs, powering through walks outdoors and moving forward with your recovery.
Seize the day....hope it's a good one

Well yesterday was a stellar day. I was able to get up from a chair without the assistance of holding onto anything just propelling myself up with my quads.I also wore pj's for the first time having been wearing nighties only so 2 milestones for me. But alas short lived as today could hardly get up due to pain in back , shins and wherever. I believe it was the climate rainy and 18 degrees C today, yesterday 30 degrees C. And with the rain comes humidity and rheumatic/bone pain and and sweating like a pall bearer. It is 7:15 and awaiting person to put on the stockings more torture. And so I begin Day 20.

Well cecropia-still no shower-tonight when my hubby finishes work. I want to be extra careful that all is dried. One Ortho nurse said 3 days dry--so tonight is the big night. I still don't like those strips though.
Today I am getting up without assistance of holding onto the arms of a chair only with the quads. I am elated.I think I am an inch taller and am walking tall. I am walking around the kitchen without assistance of anything for short periods. The lady for the stockings will be here shortly and the edema has abated. My PT comes at 9 and I will be walking with a cane in the street and it is finally sunny. My mood is sunny today.

I pushed myself up from the bed sans assistance just now as I finally got to wear the new capri pants -yea and t-shirt. I am not a dress kinda gal but had to due to constraints re dressing and stockings and double wounds. This has put a big smile on my face.I do have those stockings underneath oh but what the heck.

Great to hear, my "Both at Once" hippy compadre!:egypdance:
Onward...:tada:

About to be on to my last work day...
I did twelve hours yesterday with piles of walking and the temps are in the upper 90s.
I think I amassed over 13000 steps and nary a niggle from my bionic hips.
I have 20 young volunteers at my disposal today, so should have ample labor..although herding that many cats can be mentally exhausting!:umm:
I don't envy you in these initial months post surgery...it is a trial, for sure.
But I almost miss my take it easy, ice and elevate days!
Hope today is a Good Day:flwrysmile:
