Bilateral THR Oh 'dreams' exactly as visioned

Lol... love all the stories on picking up things... I think the worst is picking up the phone, especially from a laminate floor. Second is pills and I know we've all had to pick them up with the grabbers. I had a grabber in every room but also had a small one in the basket of my walker. They are indispensable!

Good morning @mikeycat My heart goes out to you. I worried about my husband too. He still is doing more than normal. You just had two major surgeries. Please be easy on yourself. I got a small canvas bag that I carried with me over my shoulder. It has an inside and outside pocket. Invaluable for carrying phone, grabber and ice packs. Even snacks when my husband wasn’t home. I also attached one to the walker in early days to make carrying things easier.

TV was hard for me too. I love gardening and found a channel on YouTube that gave me much comfort and enjoyment. Her name is Laura, the channel is Garden Answer. Found it very therapeutic. Sadness was with me many days. Very normal part of this. Sleep deprivation doesn’t help.

Sending wishes for an easier week ahead. ❤️

Well father's day so I sent my hubby to have breakfast with our son who had already texted me. Oh and lo and behold I found a dress I bought for post surgery(totally forgot about) so something new to throw over my head and I answered the door this am to receive the person who is putting on those dang compression stockings which I must wash every day.It is sunny and I feel up. Tomorrow well...
Thanks to all the cheering from the sidelines.It's made a difference.@jwadds I sure see the importance of many grabbers-one broke on me and hubby fixed it and has put rings on them so they attach to my walker.@Fit4Family that canvas bag sounds great though if I have anything else attached to me I'll go mad. I have a small basket on my walker. I am always open to new ideas. Close ay julesgalss July 10?

I also had a basket on my walker and a coffee cup holder (the one designed for a stroller is 1/3 the price as the walker) which was helpful carrying meals/drinks. I never used crutches, stayed on the walker for about 4 weeks until I felt comfortable with a cane. Also bought the hip kit online, which had 2 grabbers, in addition to the one I already had. I still use the grabbers for some things even after 6 weeks, really helpful taking laundry out of the bottom of the washing machine for example. TV table beside my rented power recliner was great. I have a "bed cane" that is like a bed rail, which I still find useful getting out of bed and rigged up an extension cord with switch so I wouldn't have to twist and reach to turn off the bedside lamp... lol you probably don't need that as you have a hubby!

You are doing very well! Progress will be slow and there will be some set backs, but you'll notice that each week is better than the last. Keep the faith! I found it helpful to be mentally prepared for set backs and slow progress, it helped me with coping. I still had weepy moments, just part of the healing process both physically and mentally. You can look at this time as a opportunity to DO NOTHING! Stay in your pyjamas all day! I did a lot of online dreaming of gardening and new patio furniture and posting things to my Pinterest boards. You will feel better when you can have a shower, I'm lucky to have a walk in shower, but also put a bath mat and bath chair in there. I even bought a stick-on shower head holder, so I wouldn't have to reach up... Amazon Prime is amazing!

I know. I have ordered many things on Amazon-just a godsend. You are very very resourceful. I was always way in advance myself stocking things from 8 months ago.I live near a thrift store and got the walker for $4.50 unused with wheels and skaters and hubby put on felt to protect the hardwood floors after removing the carpets here.My husband redesigned the bathroom and it is a huge walk in with a chair, bath mat and all paraphernalia at hand. I just can't shower until the last staple is out.I think it will be easy as he has also installed every kind of railing everywhere.My hubby installed the bed rail as well and ramps at every stairway so it will be easier--though going to basement I won't be able to do yet. All in good time. PT says I can go downstairs on my rump--er no way. I too had diapers but used once at hospital. They were surprised at the stuff I brought.

Love the avatar photo.He is a gem.I am hoping to have a vacation with him in October on our 40th and hopefully I will be fully able to this time. I used to do so much with him--from roofing to sanding floors to gyp rock. Even worked with a cement floor. I did quite the manual stuff maybe took a toll.I always liked to have everything prepared in advance must be my upbringing and his. Guess we are of the same cloth.

Glad you had a good day...this recovery business can be a bit of a dance so we take the good times and don't dwell too much on the more frustrating times.
All temporary, and all with a huge payoff.
Healing hugs, @mikeycat

LOL.. yes I did everything before hand too. I have every known gizmo for hip replacements. Prob could open a store. I did it because I'm on my own and it made me feel better knowing I had things I might need. I didn't want to come home from hospital on my own and not be able to put on socks if my feet were cold!

Oh do I get you. I am alone here and I have workers coming in for me however my street is being broken up-city under siege-so I wont be able to walk with physio outside. My whole street is being blocked -no one can park and I do feel like a prisoner. Sorry for that--off topic just frustrated as I still am leaking and one person didn't come because of that work and I just wrote the mayor. All those gizmos make me feel secure too.

:hi:
Don't feel like a prisoner, you're not...you have a phone in case of an emergency and you have us to keep you company if you feel like chatting. And don't forget about the Community links I forwarded earlier. You may get lost in there for hours and before you know it hubs will be back home. You're going to do great, I just know it!
I'm sure there may one or two hunky construction guys working out in the street there in case of an emergency and you become become a damsel in distress :swoon: :heehee:
Have a wonderful Monday!
@mikeycat

@mikeycat I had my staples out on day 14 and I thought it was too soon for my left side. They sent me home with a couple of extra waterproof dressings so I wore one when I showered and a loose gauze dressing after because it was still weeping. I was worried about infection as it seemed hot and red, so I took a pic and emailed it to my orthopaedic surgeon. She said it was fine, but I still worried. I took pics every few days and even I could tell it was getting better. Apparent it’s normal to have some discharge from the incision as long as it doesn’t smell. :eeeuw:
Icing helps with incision pain too.

Thanks. The oozing is slight and the nurse ran out quickly saying it was fine after redressing. She showed me a pic(I was a nurse along time ago) nonetheless I still have to await her Thursday and no showers til then cat washes.She had to leave quickly because of the situation. Me the one who showered 2x a day--oh heavens.I sat out on the back balcony because it was so sunny. After I hauled out the chair and cushions I discovered it was too hot. Had to come in in a few minutes. There is shade but downstairs and I cant go down without anyone with me as yet.

Well another day up at 4 am so was hubby and we chatted. I was incredibly sore and stiff because I did the PT exercises as she is coming by today. I was fine til then. I am telling her that I wont be doing much but will go up and down the front stairs with her. I am losing my hair. I had dreams of my hair turning gray pre-op but I got the hair part right but not the condition. At the hospital it was coming out. I have/had curly hair now straightened and wispy. Did this happen to anyone else?

Good Morning :wave:
I hope you slept well last night. Sorry to hear you're stiff and sore. You're wise to tell Physio that you
are really only interested in mastering the steps today. If the PT exercises are making you sore and stiff, don't do them. They're unecessary right now if you're up and walking around as directed in the Activity Progression For THR.

Hair loss can happen. Following is an article from the BoneSmart Nutrition Library that will hopefully ease any anxiety you have over the hair loss.

I hope you have a great Monday :)
@mikeycat

Personally, I would drop the PT...or as you say, do the least possible.
I dropped it and then went back at some months out for some gait training instruction and simple strengthening exercises that I could do just as well at home without the stipulation of how many reps or what my hips were up to that particular day.
Walking was the best thing..and the lengths of my walks were incremental so I could build up slowly.
Ice stayed my constant companion when not up and about.
Still early days my friend!
