Bilateral THR Oh 'dreams' exactly as visioned

@mikeycat I saw where you posted in another thread how you wanted to get on your knees. I was dusting a little and went on my knees to get a low spot. Ouch, ouch, ouch, can't believe how sore the surgery knee was. I got hold of a chair nearby and pushed myself back up. So now wonder when I will try that again.:groan: Nothing was wrong with my knees before surgery.:shrug:
So please be careful if and when you try it. Maybe make sure your husband is home. ❤

Oh I must say last night after hubby went to bed at 9 I decided I needed that pineapple hubby had just stripped of its rind . It was in a bowl in the fridge. I got it with the grabber and dropped it with the grabber and the plate broke and all that pineapple which was very juicy was all over the kitchen floor. It broke into the cat's bowl too.So I picked every piece up with that same grabber and then the plate. I knew there was a rag underneath the sink so I wet it and looked for the Pinesol-not there and proceeded to 'wash' the floor.I replaced the cat food---no mean feat as the 2 bowls were on the floor and it wouldn't be the first time I dropped those too.Managed to do a so-so job and hubby washed floor in am. Dont you just love dropping things?

@Cecropia I want to get on my knees but can't. I also have this unique problem with shoes. If the're the wrong sort I get really sore knees. As is I have expensive running shoes that are ok but lace ups. So oh gee real tough to get into. And I dont know which shoes will be ok only by trying. What a dilemma. Thanks for the advice. See the post above this one. I did some kind of maneuver getting this plate and that hurt. I am definitely more careful now.

:goodpost: I hope your husband goes and gets you another pineapple! I'm lucky in one sense I can do the golfers reach in an emergency, had a few of those already. :heehee:

Oh no — beware of plates of pineapple!!! I had to laugh a little, though I am sure at the time it was quite frustrating. I had a similar incident with a pot of spaghetti sauce (don’t ask...)
:hairpulling::gaah::hairpulling:

I want to go to the place we rented for the summer. Can't until I am more mobile and there will be challenges there as my place here had been reconfigured to accommodate me but this other place--well. It is in the country--mountains,rivers, forest etc. We used to have a place there of our own.

Awe....sorry you can't get there yet. Maybe by August? We have a motorhome. I want to go off up North camping or anywhere camping and relax. Like you, I need to be better healed so I can sit anywhere and take the longer drive and be comfortable sleeping at night. I love our motorhome, can't wait to go, go, go again. I even drive it. That's my tomboy coming out. lol.

I got it with the grabber and dropped it with the grabber and the plate broke and all that pineapple which was very juicy was all over the kitchen floor.

Did you cry? :bawl: :cry: :boohoo: I would have!
@mikeycat

We live in the woods.. on a lake.. With roots and rocks .So I have to be mobile ! I did fine after knee using cane or poles as needed.
I am camping as soon after as possible though in a trailer.. Last time it was about three months post knee and yes I could drive for four hours. We hauled boats and bikes and used them. I am kind of done with the straight through drives though We used to drive from Maine to Chicago in one shot and same to Fla.. I did Maine to Atlanta once straight through solo Twenty years ago.

Mikeycat There are elastic shoelaces with keepers that are cord locks so they don't need to be tied.. That way you can use your running shoes.

Wow, @mikeycat, I can't imagine how tough it would be for a bilateral hip replacement. I know there are other brave souls on the forum who've had this double whammy surgery, but it boggles my mind. Sounds like you're doing pretty well so keep up the good work. As I frequently remind myself and others who are waiting for this surgery in 2019, keep your eye on the prize--2020 is going to be grand!

I have those elastic laces but they are presently in the plastic bag. As is I keep the cotton laces on my sneakers and use a shoe horn to help ease the foot in. Today I wore socks -also using the device in that grab all ortho bag. Was very easy to put on.

Used to drive from the north to the south and all over--done with that. Hopefully in October this year will be going by train cross country. Though hubby would like to get a Westfalia and do that cross country. I am loathe to leave my son only 20 but graduating from university and lives on his own but we are his only family and loathe to leave my cats though son would tend to them.I can see @Cecropia how you miss your motorhome and @mainegirl1 too. I had a farmhouse but no more.

I was supposed to continue with those compression stockings and someone comes in to put them on but they have not been by so I will cancel with our health community center. I have peeling legs now like I had a sunburn this due to edema--imagine how swollen it was to be peeling now. Supposed to have rehab physio 2x a week starting this week for 6 weeks. Thank gawd they did not call me today. Last night my muscles were tense and hard like I was tensing them purposely and I had spasms. Anyone else have this?

Oh I had a meltdown today.
The meltdown was a accumulation of frustration. I went to feed the cat and overturned the bowl and got angry with my cat something I have never done. I was upset after this. What is the definition of insanity-doing the same thing over and over expecting different results--well then I am insane. Tried with 2 grabbers this time but my hands shake. Finally succeeded but had to clean up yet another mess.
I have tensing of my muscles and spasms when I sleep. Anyone have this? I am worried yet again. I do not have this syndrome during the day when more mobile.I am despondent today even though it is sunny and at 9 am already 25.It will be a scorcher.

As difficult as it is, and I know it is, you have to almost laugh at how ridiculous and pathetic we are in early recovery. I swear it's all that gets you through somedays. I used to think to myself, you old pathetic thing, banging down the hall looking like a dishelved mess, with a walker no less! Basically using a long pliers (grabber) to pick up whatever I drop which seemed like everything! Seriously, have you ever dropped as much stuff as you do in early recovery? It was like a joke. I recall trying to use the dumb cane to hook my grabber that was on the floor so I could pick up something else I dropped. :bawl:I Yi Yi!

People do complain of spasms often. Look into Magnesium for the muscle spasms and I apologize if I've mentioned it to you before. Never hurts for others to read some of this info though in case they're experiencing the same.
Big hugs, better days are on the way!

Magnesium supports the following:
Bone health
Healthy blood sugar
Cardiovascular health
Muscle relaxation and nerves
Promotes healthy sleep (falling asleep and staying asleep)

ok will do Layla. I actually have magnesium on hand. I used to eat a lot more nuts but I'm out now-eating lots of greens though. This is very disconcerting as it wakes me up. Also my cat jumped on me and it triggered a tension of the thigh muscle then a spasm.

I just got a call from the Center for physio and they have an opening tomorrow at 1:15 pm . Yes well, all very nice but the numbers for the taxi services provided by the health community here did not work. I wanted Friday afternoon so my hubby could be with me and drive but apparently the days will vary. Also I have been less mobile--go figure-- and stiff with muscle spasms see previous post-- so I said next week. Well I must contact the health community center and reactivate the dosier--fed-up here. I had left a message with the visiting physio --boy will she be upset as I believe she is in contact with my OS and yuh know their agenda.

@mikeycat If it makes you feel any better, I woke up this morning laying on my good side, which you have 2 hips to mend, but I pull my surgery knee up a little, more comfy, but it was aching so bad, so I rolled to my back and my incision started burning some. My surgery leg heel always hurts at night and I have to put a soft sock on it or I can't let it touch the sheets. I'm at 4 weeks, sleeping heals, so why do I wake up feeling worse in the morning? Who knows. I'm grumpy this morning too.
Then a friend who had knee surgery, told me how sorry they were that I had hip surgery and how they hoped they would never have to have it done, it is so much worse than knee. What? I was led to believe hip surgery was easier than knee, hummmm. Even my brother has had both knees done and said he feels sorry for me to go through hip surgery. Soooooooo, this is not going to be easy like I was thinking before surgery. I'm losing patience as a lot of us are. I tried to stop taking my tylenol yesterday, I made it 10 hours before my whole leg started hurting, so back on the tylenol. Just too many little nerves severed and soft tissue and muscle to mend. I'm really trying, but I think I'm a really bad example of staying upbeat. There are hippies on here with more severe complications that are more upbeat than myself. Try re-reading your recovery from page 1. I did that today and it helped me realize I am improving. But man am I sore today, but for nothing I did wrong.

Oh heavens that sounds so bad. I haven't taken any pain meds . Tylenol is like a placebo for me anyways.Advil does the trick as it is a anti-inflammatory which is generally what is causing the pain. Yup, I've heard that too-knee surgery is the worse. My physio says they need much more rehab than hip surgery.Yup but I think they are more mobile. I am the only one in my family with any surgery. Such a celebrity. That sounds like a bunch for you to deal with and it sounds like you are definitely having more pain than I. And I know about waking up and feeling worse and I know like I you are waiting for the day when you say 'yes' I feel good.Baby steps, huh? They don't say how you endure these 'baby steps'.

I had a bummer day yesterday with the workers ringing my bell and then hydro electricity went off for several hours so no internet ,lights, power-lift chair, even telephone because it is VOIP and my cell's battery was really low, and then they call me from the rehab center to give me an hour today when I hadn't even lined up my lifts because all the telephone numbers they gave me were useless. They then told me I would have to recall the health center to reactivate my dossier--yea well I have already left several messages. I cant even have the same days or the same physio. I wanted to have Friday afternoon so I could go with my husband. It is like a 'war' zone in front of my house with the roads and sidewalks uprooted oh and the noise--no sleeping here. Those oxycodone tabs are looking good but of course the hospital called several weeks ago and asked me to bring the remaining tabs to the pharmacy.
So I have sent an email to my own physio whom I have been in contact to ask if she could take me every Friday and work with me and on my back which 'they' won't address. I could probably even get the physio programme from the center.I know I will do far better and her philosophy is congruent with mine and I have known her for 13 years. She and no one else in the professional health community have helped me.
I wish I could go downstairs to the basement where it is serene, quiet, have sofas, all my books, bathroom, office, laundry room and you hear absolutely nothing. But the 10 stairs are narrow and the top is on an angle. It is prohibitive.Such is my rant for today. Hope things progress but I am dubious.
