Bilateral THR Oh 'dreams' exactly as visioned

@mikeycat, I think at 2 weeks post-op a lot of us felt the same as you. I remember many tears and it was only one hip, heaven forbid if I had done both together. You definitely need to give yourself more credit!! :console2:

You are truly my hero @mikeycat Double hips and just two weeks out. You are doing remarkably well. You have past the hardest parts in my opinion. Layla gives great advice, to look week to week rather than day to day. When I read the post about dreading nights, it brought me right back. You will start sleeping better soon. The body heals amazingly fast when you consider what it went through. Wonderful family here to see you through. Your hubby sounds wonderful. There are no words, but grateful x1000. Hope you have a good weekend. ❤️

It's the way it for us these first weeks, dear @mikeycat
All Temporary...so hang in there, friend.
You will get through it.
Sympathy hugs coming your way!:roseshwr:

@mikeycat you are doing really well, especially when you remember you've had two major surgeries. Try not to be so hard on yourself and try not to rush the chores and recovery. Slow and steady wins this race.

This is my first hip surgery but not my first surgery. Have had gallbladder removed, had kidney stones removed from both kidneys at the same time and had a spinal fusion to stabilize my back. Every one was different and yep, think I woke up from just about all going what did I get myself into. As they say quite often on here, it's all temporary and this shall pass.

Sending gentle hugs your way. :console2:

Oh boy that's quite a load and still positive. You are an inspiration. My hubby had kidney stones last year and is being monitored. Apparently it is one of the worse pains around. Had quite a load you did.

@Fit4Family I thank you for all the kind words--too many amazing people here and Layla was certainly right and bang-on about week to week because daily is certainly disheartening. My husband is exhausted as he has his job though he 'took time off' but we have properties to maintain and I used to do it with him and this place to clean, me-ugh-and his own issues which he keeps quiet about. He helps our son and is constantly 'doing' I do so worry about him. I need to get better quickly as he will break because everyone has a breaking point. He was very worried about me as I spent awhile in recovery. Everyone turns to him for solutions.Last night was the nightmare of nightmares. I can get into and out of bed. I don't sleep and I went to get ice (at 3 am) as I was in pain and I dropped it . I struggled for about 15 minutes to retrieve the packs and I had to ask hubby to get it. He looked exhausted.Really got to improve here.

You almost have to laugh at yourself to get through it all. It worked for me. I laughed at myself banging down the hallway with the dumb walker, I felt old before my time. I laughed when I dropped stuff and couldn't get the grabber around it sufficiently enough to pick it up, laughted at how pathetic I was while trying to pick my cane up off the floor with the grabber! It's all so ridiculous but thankfully only temporary.

I hope you have a good weekend @mikeycat
Try to get out an enjoy the weather. Hopefully you have some nice weather in the forecast for the weekend.
I had to be reminded to get outdoors when I had a touch of the blues around the two week mark. Even if you're only able to sit on a patio or deck soaking in some rays for a time. Whatever gets you through. Or a car ride for ice cream. It all helps.
Wishing you a peaceful Saturday!
Hugs :friends:

Thanks Layla but I haven't practised the stairs in the front of my house. They are not standard and real doozies. The PT will undoubtedly have me doing them with her on Monday. She wants me walking with a cane because she knows I am scheduled for re-hab next week. I am going to practise the back stairs with hubby but it has been raining and thundershowers are predicted.i haven't yet practised getting in and out of a car as I came home in a medi-van -my choice to leave. There are a lot of expectations from everyone myself included and I am not rising to the occasion.I feel like kicking myself in the rump -well- if I could reach it.

I'm sorry. I'll bet you're feeling rather isolated. I forgot about the stairs.
Too bad the weather will be gloomy also, that never seems to help our mood.
Maybe a take-out meal and a good comedy at home later on?

The days drag on and get long and boring.
We find it necessary to get creative to occupy our mind and keep our spirits up.
I was on BoneSmart a lot in early recovery. I used it for advice, informational purposes, commaraderie
and sometimes to just plain goof off! Definitely had my share of laughs here, not that I'm condoning
non stop nonsense but laughter is the best medicine
I hope you find some silly humor in the day. If you do....share. We all like a good laugh.
@mikeycat

I am doing what you say Layla. I come here for relief as well. I changed the chair I sit in to write here because I had a hard time getting out of it with the bandages on both sides and I guess my rump was swollen not that that needs to be and the braiding of the seat bottom hurt. My husband is returning to work Monday and he is worried about me. I will make do I always do but he sees me dropping things like I wasn't clumsy before--I was I am.Can't shake the sadness part though. Hubby put TV in the same room I sit in but so much awful stuff on there and my hubby had nightmares--so I am giving him nightmares--oh boy.

Check out the games though too because you can play them continually, if you're interested

@mikeycat Not trying to be funny, but your dropping your ice bag in the middle of the night, I did the same thing and my grabber would not pick it up too slippery. Had to wake husband. My grabber has been my lifesaver for the most part. I dropped all my pills out of my daily pill box and picked them up one by one with grabber. I dropped my comb on the bathroom floor and spent 10 minutes trying to pick it up with grabber, I would get it close and then it would fall out. Oh the trials and tribulations of recovery. You will get better.....try to be positive, we all have to go through this process, and some of the things seem forever to improve, but they will. You are doing well. I feel the depression too, you are not alone. It will get better and both hips are done for you. That's a good thing.

Sorry but you made me laugh. I was washing at the sink (can hardly wait to shower and wash the straw formerly known as hair atop my head) and dropped my soap. I had to call hubby to pick it up as I definitely could not. It was skating around the bathroom.Oh gee. I dropped my pills too but only 1 at a time 1 was xarelto so I sure needed it but the other is ASA so I can get that at the pharmacy since I am on this 2x daily.I am getting deft at those grabbers. My husband put rings on them to secure to my walker. And on the cheery side today I went up and down the stairs--hubby was so scared but not I.I did some exercises and my hips are loosening or at least those steel things known as muscles are around them. It is rainy but today I feel sunny . Who knows what I will feel like tomorrow but who cares.Keep up the good work and I do so look forward to your posts.

See...out it comes, I knew you had some humor bottled up in there. :heehee:
Kudos on those stairs, great accomplishment! :yay:
It's mastering the little things that we took for granted before the pain of a deteriorating hip took its toll.
Each of these steps toward independence get you one step closer to recapturing life.
I'm proud of you, mikeycat :yes!:

It gets easier....I’m only three days ahead of you but I’ve turned a corner pain wise and hence mood wise! Stay strong fellow double hippie
I’ve laughed at myself so much. When I dropped my phone and had to use a towel wrapped around it to pick it up...a good ten minutes of frustration & laughter! If we don’t laugh we will cry!
Husbands are really useful at picking things up easily but I too feel so guilty waking him in the night. I’m sure we can be extra nice to them post recovery to say thank you though

This too will pass. You are doing awesome for so early in recovery and with both hips at the same time. You yourself said you always manage- but also be kind to yourself and give yourself time to heal. The depression/sadness/frustration is part of the healing steps.
