Hi @Nana moon 27 and @yiayia3 - thanks for your replies and I will be doing as I have been told! Just glad that I know what's going on now. Never had diclofenac before, evidently he has given me a version that has an added stomach protector!
BTW @yiayia3 - I saw him at his rooms in Weybridge - it's a new place near Brooklands on the Industrial park.

Better all go well this time - otherwise with the amount of physio/hydro I have already had and need to have, I will be keeping the hospital in business single-handedly!

Relieved that despite it being a setback and delay (boo) - there does not seem too much cause for concern. I've slid down the snake, now it's time to start clawing my way back up the ladder again!

Hi @dogwheels, I'm so pleased that you can relax now you have seen your OS, it is certainly a cautionary tale for those of us that just might be overdoing things ever so slightly  - and I don't include you in that group! Don't worry about the Diclofenac, I lived on it for the year before the TKR, very good stuff short term.
Have a restful weekend, you must feel very relieved now.

Hiya @dogwheels ! I've been a poopie (will that pass the strict PC guidelines on here?) friend on here of late. I am so happy that your OS was able to tell you what was going on with you knee and put your fears to rest! Hopefully you'll be back to your pre-oopsie self very very soon!

Uhm...... paper bras?! :whistle:Sooo many different directions I could take that into, but I will behave. xoxoxo

I know I keep saying it but I sooooo love this site, I feel you are all such good friends, I just know we'd all get on if we ever met up. Thank you for always being here and cheering me up.

Dear Diary ...............
I just want to let you know how useful putting details down on my thread has been. Reading back was invaluable in charting pain and progress to tell my physio/OS.

This last week has been very confusing, and left me unsure regarding what is new pain/discomfort caused by my recent blip and what was there before.

My mind has been so taken up with my little setback that I have conveniently forgotten that I was still pretty early on in recovery (-7 weeks) and still had odd aches and pains arising from that. I need to remind myself that a week ago I was not recovered and pain free and then suddenly struck down. My mind has conveniently chosen to let me forget that last week I could only bend so far and then my knee would go no further without pain. Things are no different now, it's just that at the moment - I cant bend as many degrees. It ached and hurt after physio before, and sometimes hurt in the night/when I walked/went upstairs ......... today is no different, I just have selective memory loss and blame everything on this setback, which is dumb ......

Today I toddled back to the womb-like warmth of Hydro, sharing the pool with the bruised and bloody inpatients all looking a bit woebegone and wobbly, just like I was 7 weeks ago. The PT was concerned not to over-exercise my knee, and I think this is going to be a bit of a balancing act for them all in the next few weeks. They need to work it to get it back to where it was, but without overworking it and without knowing exactly what caused the problem in the first place. The PT had a good feel behind my knee and said that it is extremely tight, as are the surrounding muscle groups. We were chatting about it and I mentioned how bruised I had been in that area - and still am. She agreed that it is logical and reasonable to assume that I may have had a slight but continuous soft tissue problem there from the outset, and an intermittent bleed. Something just tipped it over the edge last week, and caused the problem.
I spent practically the whole time in the pool alternating between lunging and squats for 40 mins. Urrgghh.... it hurt. She measured a couple of times, but I couldn't better 80 degrees ROM. Still that's 20degrees better than Monday and about 78 degrees more than last weekend!
Baby bending regime - little and often again until I see my PT on Monday - but no strengthening exercises or climbing stairs normally again, as yet.

As I have already said - up until last week, recovery wise I was hurtling along on the Motorway. However, my engine decided it cant cope with that pace. Therefore I am now taking the longer, gentler and more scenic route. I'll get to the same destination, but of necessity, it may take a little longer.

you're so right--it's trying to find the right balance--trial and error. I like your comment about "the scenic route." That's a good way to think of it. :)

@dogwheels glad it went o.k today even though it hurt sounds like you will soon be back on track,is it catching? Had a really rough night and knee is not happy today lots of aches and pains more at the back of knee, think I've done to much this week so resting this weekend, it does come back to bite you if you don't follow the mantra,we have the family for dinner tomorrow but my husband will cook most of it he loves cooking thank goodness, anyway have a nice restful weekend Terri

Hi @yiayia3 - I'm so very sorry your knee is acting up and is painful. If I have learned anything from this, it's follow the mantras and don't let your knee sit in one position for too long. Slow gentle movement. If you are finding it difficult to do something you were able to before - don't worry (that's rich coming from me after last week, I know!) If you had it, you wont have lost it. It will return - it's just hiding somewhere for a while to annoy you!
Take it easy after your busy week and let your husband take over the kitchen. Sounds as if he is a super cook. Your family visiting tomorrow will be lovely. Enjoy.
Take it slow and easy and talk soon
Love ChrisX

@ dog wheels. I think we should all write down one positive good thing about our knee or other body parts that have been replaced. Starting off with a positive note and THEN we can all commiserate with our aches and pains. Wish I could go first but right now the only positive thing about my knee is that it's still attached to my body,
By the way the pictures of you and daughter are beautiful. Love love the red hair beautiful. Now you need to post the after pic
Have a good night. Just rambling cause I took a pill and my mind is racing. Now trying an aromatherapy anti anxiety release ointment to rub on the insides of wrist. And waiting for sleep
Ok back to boring book hope that does the trick
Night all

Hello @susanne - glad you liked the pics. Daughter's hair is so ridiculously thick - when she lived at home, the trap in her shower was perpetually full of these huge red cotton like threads - plus she is the only person I know who can actually put her hair up without any pins, just sort of knotting it and it stays put!
I have now seen a little pic of the new hair, fresh from the hairdressers, but she would kill me if I put it on here. She took the pic before she got home, and her eyebrows (drawn on to match the red hair) look really dark and weird with the new lighter hair colour. She hates photos being taken as much as I do, but I will try to get one. Its a pretty colour sort of peachy and blonde. I think the colour change is just a ploy to buy some new clothes in colours that go well with blonde hair!
Hope by the time you read this you will have had a better night's sleep.
Currently, I can't think of a positive to say about my knee ............. other than that even in its present state, having returned to a pitiful ROM after doing well, it still bends so much more than it did pre-op.
Talk later

Boy. You guys over the pond sure do have beautiful children I'm sure a the genes are maternal
And you are all so young older children grandparents. So lucky and fortunate. I just hope one day my free spirited daughter will stay in one state long enough to meet someone ... Anyone

Ha ha @susanne - I think I have the matching daughter here. She gets through men like other people do Kleenex!
I seriously think its her one woman mission to date every eligible man before she makes a decision.
Still, as there is no wedding looming on the horizon, it will give me plenty of chance to get this knee working really well, hopefully shed some pounds and return to some decent shoes .......... just in case she finds Mr Right sometime in the next ?????? years!

Good luck to both of us. Just as long as they are happy and healthy isn't that what really matters, although a nice guy wouldn't hurt!!

Hi @Nana moon 27 - thanks for asking. I have been back a while but had orders to get the ice on my knee quickly and had a few bits to sort out before I could catch up here.

It went OK today - physio was really kind and lovely. She sympathised that I must be feeling disappointed that I more or less had it all, and am now back to the beginning again. But as she said, nothing can remedy what has happened so there is no alternative but to grit my teeth and start back from scratch. My knee was a bit painful last night with a pain going across my knee, which is new, Its easy to speculate, but as it isnt uncomfortable behind my knee now (bit more new bruising though) I wonder if the true damaged bit is now making itself known? However, I have had so many random odd aches and ouch's it's got to the point I just do not know what is going on in there at all! The sad thing is, neither does anyone else.
She said she had discussed it with her colleagues last week, but no one could come up with any suggestion of what could have happened. So aside from the OS's guess at the cause, its all a bit trial and error.

My knee was puffy where it isn't normally today, the old tight band feeling had returned and it felt very bruised on the outside - in fact the start and finish point of where the pain was crossing my knee last night. So today we had a few bends, a few hamstring curls and a lot of her pulling the knee towards her (including tying a harness around her waist and my knee and using her whole body weight to pull backwards ..... interesting!) She then massaged all around the knee where it was puffy and sore and that was about it. At the end of the session, out came the evil measure - 85 degrees. Pitiful - but up a bit on last week - and every little bit helps. So more baby bending exercises this week and awareness when I am walking, as since the blip I sometimes lapse and limp, whereas I was walking well before and lots of ice!
Physio is off on holiday so I am having a different one for a couple of weeks - I've opted for the one that I had all my early hydro sessions with. . 2 more hydro this week and then physio and 2 hydro next week ............... I'm practically living there!

Sorry to hear that you are very achy today - what will Freddy say tomorrow? Forget the shorts, I reckon you are just setting yourself up for a full body massage. Ha ha!

Anyway - sorry it was a long waffle, but it's helpful for me to get my progress written down, so I can refer back, if needs be. I'll be popping in to 'your place' for a coffee and a natter later.

Hi @dogwheels.. Chris I know first hand how discouraging this can be. However, your lovely strong and positive attitude will have you getting right back and stronger knowing you! The hardest part with these setbacks is staying strong mentally. I constantly found myself beating myself up over the many mishaps that have occurred during my recovery. I find now it's just easier to accept what has happened and try to move on. It's so frustrating too when no one can give you an answer to explain what is wrong. When you know what is wrong. you know exactly what you are up against. You are doing exactly the right thing attending hydro and PT. I know you feel like you live there but you are in such good hands and they will help you get back again.

Freddy the Frenchman is going to say "mon dieu" but tough, accidents happen. The ludicrous thing about this is the sheer size of it and the fact I fell, over it. The bruise on the lower part of my good leg looks like it's hit a vein. Its bright bluey coloured. This incident has made my husband nervous though. I noticed today that lots of things have been moved around. He's said we are definitely going to the caravan next Monday. That will be better cos everything is on the same level xoxox
