I totally agree that you should write a book about your experiences out there. I was rapt when I read your post about your other life out there....wow Chris....for once words fail me except for....amazing xxxxx your writing style is excellent, good command of the language, humorous and serious, your style ebbs and flows like a tide. It's truly lovely to read xxxx

@dogwheels. The house is magnificent. Did you feel like Scarlett living in Tara . I think a book with photos would be a great idea. We should all be thankful for what we take for granted like clean water .

Hi @susanne - the house was cool. I liked it - but then again, I chose it! It was really weird, I thought it was very like a church inside - there was a gallery thing right at the top a bit like a pulpit, big windows ....... but it had a nice vibe and wasn't really that big, compared to some I could have had. The best thing was it was very light and airy which is quite unusual for a lot of the big houses in Jakarta. Many of the old Dutch Colonial houses feature more teak in the living area than you would see on an old galleon - teak pillars, panelling ... they were not for me I am afraid.
When I went out on my recce visit - they thought as the new boss's wife I would be demanding over my choice of house. Who, me? Many of the expats that worked for my husband were really demanding and insisted on seeing every house available - the record was 142!! I got a map, plotted the school and husband's office and then drew a circle and said to start with only details for houses in that area. After seeing a couple I narrowed down my requirements still further, until by the end of the afternoon I had seen about 10, and shortlisted 3 for my husband to go and re-visit with me. We are scarily alike in what we like in houses, and both liked the one we ended up with the most. No contest, no trauma, no endless house visits!
I did have one slight 'hissy strop' though whilst house hunting. The house staff have their own quarters, bathing area and kitchen. Many property agents call the servants kitchen ' the dirty kitchen'. Well I would have none of that and instantly rejected those that referred to it in that way. I had a really good relationship with all my house staff, all of which I chose personally, apart from husbands driver (my driver was probably the worst choice I made and the worst driver in Jakarta!!!) and our security guards who were provided by the company. If I get round to writing this thing, I have so many stories about them - they were lovely and really part of the family. They cried when we left.

Ooops I've done it again ................... I warned @hopefaith, wind me up about Indonesia and I don't stop!

Hi Chris! Just wanted to check in and see how your back was feeling! xoxoxo

@dogwheels - you must do the book! Don't wait for the next knee to go bad, do it now! I think we have the same philosophy on house shopping - I had no husband when I bought my home, I looked at probably 50 or more online, looked at 2 and bought one the day I visited...all on my lunch hour! Closing did take a bit longer but that was not my fault :heehee:

Yes, I think you are right @TexasTee - some of us just have the instinctive 'I know this is right, so what's stopping me' gene.

I have bought several of our houses without my husband even seeing them - and all without a hitch. We are that alike in what we choose ............... thankfully. We bought this place (the seaside one) while we were living in Jakarta. Husband had seen a similar one, but we only had seen the paper details so my first view was the day before the Exchange of Contracts, husband didn't see it until it was ours. I flew in to Heathrow and drove straight down. The Estate Agent was so worried I would say 'Stop! I don't like it' and was falling over himself to be nice to me. I had a couple of things that I wanted to check, they were fine, so I went to the Solicitors and did the deed.

Everyone is being so persuasive about writing this thing that I really think I might do it. A friends daughter set up an online publishing firm this year and I helped with a few small things, so I just might give her a bit of business. I will keep you posted - and if I do manage it, you guys will be the first to know.

Thanks @DogLoverx3 and @Judlepip for enquiring about my back. It has improved in the last 48 hours and although I am treating it gently and its a bit stiff - its fine. My own stupid fault!

Cloudy and grey here today and a bit breezy. Talk later.

Uhm, that's the dumbest thing I've ever read. If I didn't HAVE to have had a TKR, I certainly wouldn't have done it. The article makes it seem like it's something frivolous and elective ..... possibly the reporter who wrote the story should see it from our viewpoint and not as a socioeconomic one .... urgh. Or maybe I'm just in a bad mood this morning and interpreted the article wrong

Hi @DogLoverx3 - I agree, a TKR is hardly this year's essential fashion accessory is it? Bad choice of strap line.
Hubby sent it to me for fun and for the interesting (to him) financial implications and trend.

Yes I read the article more as a socio-economic comment as you say - but the title definitely suggested that a replacement was fun and trendy! The woman-child who authored the article really annoyed me. She looked as if she would still have green stick fractures if she broke anything, she was so young.

I saw no one had commented below the article .......... ha ha Bonesmarties of the world unite!

Hope you have a good day, I am off to see what else I can spill on the carpet!!

Haha, wouldn't you know - I was trying to decide between a boob job and a TKR last year.... ;-) Glad 'consumer' (shouldn't it be 'patient') confidence is UP in the world of robo-parts!

Good luck on the non spillage ..... it's raining here today so my concentration will be on not slipping ... eek!

This article could have been written by my boss. He told me he didn't think it was medically necessary for me to have my first tkr. Big fight! What a moron!!

@Phil75070 - so which was for you?! :eyebrows:

@dogwheels - that's quite an article...yikes, I guess I ought to wait until I can't physically stand up so as not to feel trendy...you know, I"ve been considering lipo as much easier than eating healthy...I could always switch ops. Wonder if I could take FMLA for a tummy tuck?

@DogLoverx3 - aren't you required to stand outside and rejoice whenever water falls from the sky? in the SUMMER? :wowspring:

@Phil75070 - so which was for you?! :eyebrows:

@TexasTee If you really think about it, they both would be but in different ways!

[Bonesmart.org] Oh Baby feel the (k)need in me - the sequel ..
:rofsign:

Yes, @TexasTee , that's how it should go, however, since my 'trendy' surgery, I'm scared of slipping and Richard does not appreciate the rain one bit. Plus, I sort of look like a moron when everyone is darting to their cars in parking lots so as not to get wet and I am taking my slow & measured steps while getting soaked (because, of course, my umbrella is always in the hall closet instead of the car) ;-)

I think they wrote the article for @Phil75070 " now many seniors opt to get a new hip so that they can return to the golf course." Yes, it is elective surgery but the reasons are certainly not.

How is everything going with you @dogwheels?

I am testing my patience today and trying to pop by everyone's threads. Okay, as many threads as I can before I start yelling obscenities at the screen. ;-) Luckily, you made the cut :heehee: I have no clue if you're at house #1 or #2 this weekend because although I've actually gotten onto your page, I haven't actually looked thru past posts as I fear I might lose it. :heehee: Anywhoo, I hope you are well. I hope your daughter is well. I hope the Captain is well. Mainly though, I hope you haven't spilled anything all over the white furniture or yourself today! :yes!: xoxoxox
