@dogwheels I so enjoyed your reenactment of your physio. appt. I am so happy you are doing so well. As @Nana moon 27 said, it answered some of my questions. I have been getting up off the floor like a two year old for about 5 years now.

Hello @dogwheels, thought I would stop by your thread and see how you are? I certainly hope you are doing well. I do have to agree with hopefaith about your physio Appt.. It was quite entertaining. Made a trip to the store today & I have to say it was easier than before but oh my knee is hurting now! On with the ice & elevating. Take care!

Hi @zlady - thanks for stopping by.
Well done you with the trip to the store! Was that with or without cane?? Sorry that it ached afterwards, but it will take a while before a trip is pain free. All my little solo outings have only been for about an hour's walking, and I am pleased to say that, although I am glad to sit down at the end of an hour, my knee is no longer swelling any where near as much afterwards, if at all. Generally by the time I have driven home, it is fine.
My first outings and standing for long periods used to result in a tight swelling knee, but that seems to be improving hugely now - I cant remember the last time I needed the ice.
So my friend, these things will all come - TKRs are a wonderful way to learn to be patient!

Well it is my daughters birthday today - she is 29. I have got to go and get ready, so will say goodbye for now. Enjoy your weekend

That cake is amazing, funnily enough my daughter did exactly the same for my DiL a couple of years ago, from a BBC Good Food Magazine recipe, was yours from there or somewhere else. Hers looked good but she would be the first to admit that the cake itself was too dense, she doesn't think she will ever follow the same recipe again. I was happy enough - it was cake!!!

Hi @Ellejay - no, I didn't use the BBC one as the reviews were not that great, like your daughter reviewers found the cake was too dense. This uses basically a vanilla sponge mixture. I was worried that as the layers are not thick and the batter stands around while you are mixing in the colour, that it would be a bit solid. Not a bit of it - really nice, light and yummy and you make it in tinfoil flan cases - so no washing up!! Here is the link in case your daughter is interested: https://kerrycooks.com/easy-6-layer-rainbow-cake-step-by-step/
Just had Birthday lunch - Eggs Benedict (Gordon Ramsays recipe) and jelly and ice cream (birthday girl request). Just got to shake it all down now ready for supper this evening. Bang goes the diet!
Take care and talk soon

Many thanks, I will let her know, it looks so nice, it's good to know it can taste nice as well.

Hi all -

As I have said on @Nana moon 27 's thread - I think there must be some sort of physical attraction between knee replacements and cats. Perhaps they are attracted to titanium a bit like the way @DogLoverx3's compounding cream attracts all manner of dirt and debris??

Yesterday while husband was on car cleaning duty (heh heh!) the beautiful cat from round the corner came sauntering up our drive and plonked himself down in front of my car. Husband picked him up and banged on the window for me to come and play. I love cats and this one in particular is very lovely, fat, very purr-y, beautiful and good natured. Poor thing is owned by a strange old man who doesn't groom him and this cat has a plush dense coat. Well he stayed all day, and kept trying to get indoors. Daughter turned up for supper and played with him and by this time all 3 of us were covered with a thick layer of Mr Tibbs' moulted fur. He just didn't want to go home and managed to get indoors and walked very sedately around every room downstairs on inspection duty. He is an old cat and daughter was worried about him - he just did not want to leave. After some ham and some cat food, he was looking more and more like a permanent fixture. He sat outside all evening on the door mat, then as it began to get dark, sat on our wall looking in through the window and 'guilt tripping' us to let him in again. The final straw was when I heard a noise at the front door and there he was banging the door with his paw! (Husband of course was more concerned about the recent paintwork on the door than the cat). When daughter left, he sat right behind her car so she walked up the alleyway towards his home and thankfully he followed her. He looked at her reproachfully and she ran back to her car, closely followed by the cat. He finally left about 11pm. No sign of him today - I think he just fancied a day out visiting!

You could be right about attraction to TKRs, I'm afraid I'm not a cat person, give me a dog any day, but there is a very strange looking cat here on the camp site, it is white but has a tabby tail ( I would post a picture, but I still keep getting a message that it's too big and I've only got my iPad, so I don't know how to reduce it). It is desperate to get into our caravan, and we are as desperate to keep it out. The trouble is we have to keep zipping the awning up when we go out and then we return to an oven! We went for a walk the other evening and it followed us all the way.
I've just done a ten mile cycle ride, sat on a beach for a while and now I'm about to cool down in the pool. I really could get used to this lifestyle, I'm not sure about going home, but I suppose I will be begging for the arthroscopy as soon as the cortisone injection wears off, so I will need to return, but not for another five weeks.
Chat soon xxx

@dogwheels - seriously, what is it about all of these cats?! How bizarre.

Wow @Ellejay - how quickly things have improved for you, I'm so happy to see it!! I can well imagine you aren't interested in going home. I hope your knees both realize how cush they have it and behave for you for a long time to come!

I am so happy that you are doing so well! I wait for that wonderful day to come when my knee isn't a thought. Thank you for your encouragement as I do appreciate it. It seems everyday I see improvement with my walking without the cane (at home.) I feel it'll be soon enough that I go out of the house without it. I hope your daughter's birthday was a terrific one. Talk to you again soon!

@Nana moon 27, thank you for the compliment on my avatar! Hope you're doing well.

Hello @zlady - it was lovely of you to 'pop by'. How are you and that lovely daughter of yours?? I am so glad that the walking is improving indoors, not long and you will be out and about. I do hope that things are going well for you - you know the saying: 'every day in every way I am getting better and better', well I hope that is just how it is for you. It seems sometimes as though small elements of progress get a bit lost in just getting on with our recoveries, then all of a sudden you think 'Wow! - I couldn't do that before' and before you know it, you have notched up another milestone.
I was intending going to my other house this weekend for the first time since the op - it's a couple of hours drive away, and although hubby will drive, my PT had previously recommended stops en route, but I don't think that will be necessary now - even if I am a bit stiff when I get there! However, husband will be busy all weekend, my 2 good friends there are away, and we have had a bit of an upset this morning (more about that in my next post) - so I think I will lurk here and be around for my daughter. She may be 29 but I still want to be here for her if she needs me.
Hope things keep improving for you - take care, and keep in touch.

Hi all - bit late posting as we have had an upset here this morning, which has knocked us all for six a bit.

My daughter was having a few probs with her hearing and thought it was stress or that she needed her ear syringed. She had a hearing test at the hospital this morning and evidently she has abnormal hearing for her age, it is more like that of a 65 year old. She has 70% in one ear and 63% in the other. They think it is a problem with the nerve that sends noise to be converted to messages in her brain. She compensates so well, the doctor thinks she has had the problem for many years and quite likely from birth. She is to have an MRI scan and see a consultant - but hearing aids are likely. I know that they are tiny now, but you can just imagine how a beautiful 29 year old feels about that! We are currently looking into the best person to treat her, fortunately we have some high-powered medical friends.
The really sad thing is that the doctor was amazed and said that she must be highly intelligent to compensate and overcome this disability to get her first degree and her Masters, as lectures would have been very difficult. The severe depression she suffered while doing her Masters was probably on account of stress and strain in trying to understand and hear properly.

I'm staying here for the weekend, just to give a bit of moral support - she is a little shell-shocked to say the least. Yes she had all the normal tests at school - but the doctor today said they are not worth anything. They now test for this specifically at birth - not something that was done in the 80's.

Catch up with you all later

Oh @dogwheels, what a shock for you all, I'm so sorry to hear your news. My 28 yr old daughter was devastated to have to wear 'train track' braces last year, so I know what her reaction would be to hearing aids. I do hope that your medical contacts can give her the very best treatment and then the smallest of aids, these days they are very unobtrusive. As you say, she must have been very intelligent to do so well with such limited hearing, obviously a strong young woman, hopefully this strength will get her through this next few weeks. My thoughts are with you all, xxxxx

I'm so sorry to hear this news Chris. I know you will arrange for the best treatment possible for her but I know what a shock this must be to your daughter and the 'solution' a bit daunting and upsetting to say the least. She will get through it because she is strong like her mom and has a wonderful support system. You and your daughter are in my thoughts. xoxoxoxo

Oh I am so sorry to hear about your daughter. I will keep you all in my prayers. Xoxo

My thoughts & prayers are with you & your daughter. It sounds as though she is a very strong person and will get through this obstacle with the wonderful support of her family. Enjoy your time with her and talk to you soon.

And to think I'm having issues using a cane when there are bigger things to worry about.

Hey @dogwheels, what a shock for you all Chris. Its so hard for you as the mum, we always feel so protective no matter how old our children get and want to take away their pain.
My oldest is also 29 and it reminded me of when she had a sight test with the health visitor when she was 4. She was supposed to match the picture in the identical book she had to the health visitor and kept saying she didn't have the same pictures! It became apparent there was a problem and indeed has worn glasses ever since. Later at the hospital I was trying to understand how much of a problem she had and asked the doctor. The doctor explained that without glasses my daughter could make out the shape of people but wouldn't be able to distinguish the facial features, I was shocked and felt guilty I hadn't noticed. Like your daughter she was very bright and had made a good job of compensating. Now obviously your girly is grown and what a fantastic job she has done and worked so hard against the odds. Im just so sorry that she has also suffered whilst not knowing she ever had a problem. I'm sure it will be weird for her if she discovers how other hear! This will take some adjusting, but I'm sure with her strength and the love of her Mama she will win through. Xxx
