Hi @dogwheels I was lurking around the wee small hours as I had fallen into a very deep sleep and when I woke up I thought it was time to get up. I was wide awake. It drove me mad. In the end I logged into the site and kept pumpk1n company for a while with chats and limericks. I made a point today of tagging in some of the regulars from before. Obviously some will be getting on with their lives now I suppose and this will become a pleasant memory.

It's lovely to think about the chair covered in old sheet music, that is going to look so effective. I can't wait to see the pics. When my husband goes away for a week fishing with his dad, which is rare, he doesn't phone much either. Well he knows if there's a problem someone would be in touch.

Anyway, I'll catch up with you later x x x love Nana moon 27 x x x

Hey @dogwheels, thanks for all the advice & tips. I wanted to try other things besides the decoupage papers as I agree they are very expensive so I was intrigued by your chair. I'm excited to try other things so if it's not nailed down it had better watch out ;).

Hi @Nana moon 27 - sorry to hear you have had to be juggling with your pain meds today. It really sucks and I just hope that you can get sorted when you see the OS. Sound support and advice from Josephine so just hang in there and fight for yourself like you would fight for one of your family.
My daughter came over for the afternoon, but she has had a frustrating and hectic week at work and is shattered, so will get her old room sorted over this long weekend instead of doing it all today. Makes no odds to me really as long as it gets done, and if she does a bit each day, I get to see her often! You have probably guessed from the way I talk we are very close.
I heard from my husband this afternoon, a text saying 'Goodnight'. Evidently there was no signal last night but when they were close to the corner of Brittany the French signal came in and the message arrived. All OK and by now he should be ashore and if I know him, having beer, mussels and chips! They set out on the tide at 4.30am tomorrow morning for the next leg.
Done some more to my craft project today, and decided as no one but me was seeing the mess, brought another chair in so that I can work on one, while the other's drying. This one is being covered in black and white pics from a 1960 Vogue magazine. Looking good! Just got to get them both finished before husband gets back.
Well enjoy your evening and hope that you get a better nights sleep and have a good time with your family tomorrow.

I absolutely love your hobby. It is something that looks very interesting and fun to try. I might have to give a small project a try!

Go for it @Jozilla! Its really easy. All you need to get started is something to cover - a nice flat hard surface is best, so try to get something like a box with very straight sides, or perhaps a photo album cover - curved surfaces are tricky. A pot of PVA glue and a brush, small sharp scissors (I use cuticle scissors) and some magazines or comics ....... and let out your inner artist! (If you don't want to cover it completely with cut outs, you will need to put a couple of coats of paint on it first).
If you give it a go, do let me know how you get on.
X

Thank you - you made it seem like I could do it! Will let you know when I try.

@dogwheels - I stopped in a crafts store today, inspired by your efforts and tried to find a hobby I thought I could do on major pain meds. No luck so far but a worthy ambition. I just see me getting a bit tipsy to test out various hobbies for post-op suitability! :snork:

Bless you @dogwheels and thank you so very much for your heartfelt support. I was in a lot of pain tonight just before I went to bed so took pain meds. No reduced dosage or messing about.

As I got up the stairs my mobile phone rang and it was my second daughter, asking if they could have the caravan keys as they wanted to take the kids for a day or two at the seaside. Ok no problem you'd think. I asked her if she had any king size quilt covers she could take up as I had fetched them all home and washed them. She only had double. So I had to sort out the quilt cover sets to both beds and both bunks for her. I didn't mind really but tbh I was still uncomfortable pain wise. My kneecap had that sensation of strangeness, like it wants to give up and crack. Hard to explain.

Anyway, she's been and gone now. They're going to wake the kids up about 4am so they'll be excited about going. However, I think she's going to hit a problem. The eldest lad is nearly 18 and has a girlfriend, need I say more. He is not going to want to go I don't think. He may already have plans. I felt that she should've told them really but she had already informed me that this is what she and her partner had said they were doing.

I'm getting extremely interested in this hobby of yours. It's almost infectious, I notice jozillas the same! I love being creative because when I worked with children that was a lot of what I did. I really miss it. However, I don't seem to have any concentration of late and I blame the pain meds.

I'm ever so glad your daughter is around and you are so close. I am very close to both of mine and I honestly don't know what id do without them. I love them both so very dearly. I hear about people not speaking to their grown up children and having fall outs and I just don't get it! Life's too short! I love my son as much and love his fortnightly visits when he has his son. Money has been a constraint up until now but he starts his new job on Tuesday. This is double the salary he was on before. He was on minimum wage. Even better he is based in Birmingham not Wolverhampton, where he lives, so I hope we may see him a bit more. That would be brilliant.

I'm also happy your sailor man contacted you and you know all is ok. I love the sound of 1960's Vogue magazines. Out of curiosity where do you find them?

Love Nana moon 27 xxx

Good morning @Nana moon 27 - hope you had a decent night's sleep after your busy and painful day yesterday. I didn't get the best of nights, but thankfully that isn't usually a problem for me. I'm lucky that I am not in pain in bed, just get a bit stiff. I usually take a while to go to sleep and the trouble is that I get comfortable but by the time I am just beginning to go to drop off I have to shift position, and it all starts over again. It didn't help that as I went up last night I realised that the bulbs in all 3 of the table lamps in the hall that I have on timer switches had blown while I was busy crafting and watching TV. I was hunting around for bulbs and thankfully found 3 which saved me going outside to the garage for supplies. It doesn't bother me being in the house on my own, but we are at the end of a cul de sac, well set back from the road, have gardens all around the house and are not overlooked. I just feel better with a bit of light going on and off downstairs.

I hope that your daughters family enjoy their trip to the seaside. I think you are right about the oldest boy and his girlfriend though, and hope that it doesn't spoil the surprise trip.
Really glad about your sons new job - that should make a huge difference to him and his family. It's lovely when your children do well or something good happens to them, isn't it? You feel even happier than if it was happening to you personally.

As for those Vogue magazines - they are soooo cool. I just love the fashions. I am using one from 1960 and one from 1961 and the clothes are really elegant and late 1950s style. The descriptions are hilarious as is the wording in the adverts - language and times have changed so much. I spend twice as long cutting as I read all the magazines as I go. The ones from the war years and the really early ones are fascinating - especially the articles about finding and then looking after a man! I pick them up in charity or antique shops, or on eBay. Collectors want pristine copies, but that doesn't matter for me and I try to buy up job lots which tend to be cheaper.

Well I am going to hop on over to your thread now as I see you have posted. Talk later.

Morning @dogwheels I hope you're ok and slept well. Having the house and bed to ourselves can be lovely sometimes can't it? On the rare occasions mine takes his dad fishing for a week, I adore having the place to myself. I know that sounds selfish but it's how I feel! I hope you a another lovely day of crafting.

I have no choice but to take it easy today. Unfortunately I've posted a self pitying post on my thread today. Il get over it and post something a bit more cheery later when my meds have kicked in.

Love Ann xxx

Oh @dogwheels I so understand the bed shifting thing. It's a blooming nightmare. All the kids went in holiday hooray, so no drama there. Yes I'm over moon for my son exactly as you describe it! More excited than if it was for me! Lol x

1960 was the year I was born, so how cool is it that you have a magazine for that year. That's fantastic. Yes you're right too about the terminology used back then and the servitude of the women to the men! I ask you, how to get your man and keep him, oh dear. However, that was the norm back then and I often wonder if maybe life might have been a little easier mentally for a woman not having to juggle life like they do now. I don't know. I too adore the old fashions. Some are absolute gems! See me in a vintage shop with the fabrics, I've died and gone to heaven!

I remember my mom being the stay at home, always there mom and I was grateful for that. It meant I could come home at lunchtimes for my food. I hated school although I did very well. Even the seniors which I despised. The problem was I had a very posh upbringing really, very sheltered, not much socialising with other children and I was sent to school in an area where it was predominantly council/social housing. The kids were so different to the one I was allowed to play with in our road and quite frankly I could not cope. I was like a square peg in a round hole. I cried when mom told me where I was going to senior school. I knew what lay ahead for me. Bullied because of my posh accent, which unfortunately, I went all out to try and lose ASAP. I still got bullied all the way through though! Posh, brainy, musically talented and well spoken. Not a hope at that school. My husband was very attracted to my voice when I met him at 15 years old (he was 19) and for the first time in my teenage years I felt accepted by someone. The rest is history. I do have a Birmingham accent but its not a broad one like the Black Country/midlands. They call us posh lol x x x

You've cheered me up once again Chris. Thank you x x x x

Look what you've started @dogwheels I think we need to start a craft thread! Personally, I'm rubbish at most art stuff, I have the ideas but my hands don't follow ;) which is why I like decoupage. I've only done small bits but have lots of chairs and a table in mind which I want to do with a mixture of that and Anne Sloan Chalk paint, have you heard of it?......Sorry if my comments are a thread hike, I'll stop if it's interfering with your recovery thread? I'm still learning my way around this site and how it all works? Have a good day love Bernie x

Hi @Nana moon 27 - glad that talk of the 1960s was a trip down memory lane for you. Hope you got a good night and are having a good Bank Holiday Monday.
I grew up in Essex ........ and yes, I've heard all the jokes about Essex girls - and no, I didn't wear white high heels!! My upbringing was very 'nice' and very normal and very happy - I think I was very lucky. My Mum and Dad were happy as long as I was happy - which made for all-round peace and happiness at home. I wasn't pushed, but I was a very high achiever (probably because I never felt the need to rebel). In stark contrast my husband grew up in very similar circumstances, but he was very unhappy at home. His family resented how clever and independent he was, he hated family life and couldn't wait to marry me and escape! What goes around comes around, and now I would do anything for my Mum. I ring her every night no matter where I am in the world and look after her. However my husband speaks to his Mum at Christmas only - and he has now stopped her talking to my daughter (her only grandchild) - because she resents her qualifications and success, and is rude about it to her when she speaks to her. One is in her old years with family, love and warmth around her, the other must be so lonely - but it is of her own making. Sad - eh?
I did have quite an Essex accent (not as bad as TOWIE if you ever watch that) but over time that has gone and now I have the usual Surrey 'everso nicely spoken-ness'. However, get me back with my old friends and the old Essex comes out in force! My daughter however speaks absolutely beautifully - quite posh but not in your face.

Well my daughter and I have been to the petshop and have played with all the animals. Gilbert has a new bottle, a new tunnel to hide in that is floor level (think he needs to ice and elevate too!) and some eggy biscuits. We made friends with a pure white chinchilla, a lovely ginger rabbit with a white tail and 2 re-home rabbits, Bradley and Peter. Bradley was big and gorgeous, Peter has 'special problems'. Daughter and I had a laugh wondering what those may be! She has gone home to catch up on her ironing and is returning later for supper and 'Glee!'.

Hello @cafecortado - I have no problems talking about craft on here, so feel free to chat away and ask. I know its supposed to be a Recovery Thread - but you get to the point that you are fed up talking about knees and just want to chat normally to the friends you have made on here. If you have a recovery blip or question, it just comes up in the general conversation as a rule.
So .......... Annie Sloane paint. I know all about it, but I haven't used it. I have however used good old bog standard paint. I used it to make some distressed pastel coloured picture frames for my daughter. I bought some sample pots from Homebase. I rubbed areas of the frames with a candle and then painted a couple of coats and gave it a rub and a coat of sealant. Because the paint doesn't adhere to the wax you get a great distressed effect cheaply and easily.
I know there is a sewing thread in the social section because I post on there from time to time - not sure about general crafting though ........... I'll have a look and if there isn't one, perhaps I'll start one??

Hope your knees are behaving today and you are enjoying the Bank Holiday .

Great idea @cafecortado - I've started a crafty thread in the Social Room. Don't know if it will catch on, but you can but try!

Well done @dogwheels, how exciting, I'll hunt it out in a bit :) I've had a nice weekend thanks, my youngest daughter & her new hubby were visiting from Glasgow, so it was a real boost. We didn't do much...obviously, but went out for breakfast today. I had pancakes, bacon & maple syrup yum! For some reason I love going out for breakfast & hubby's pleased as it makes me a cheap date ;) to be honest, I've forgotten what it's like to be out after the 6pm news since these op's! When we got back, I had to go to bed for a couple of hours & ice but it was worth it. The pains no worse thank goodness, I'm hoping to book a Dr's appointment tomorrow, but it might have to wait a few days as I'm restricted at to when I can get there with being unable to drive :( I hope your day has been good? Love Bernie x

Hi @dogwheels

I love your craft!

I just dropped in to say that I am sometimes an "Essex girl". I spent 7 years of my youth there, from when I was 7 to when I was 14. I went to primary school there and had almost 3 years at high school (which I hated!).

I still fall back into a bit of an Essex accent when I meet up with my cousins, who are very "Essex." But then, I also fall into a Yorkshire accent when I see my friends there - I lived in Leeds for 14 years, 14-28.

My accent now is a mixture of slightly "posh" (my mother spoke well, had elocution lessons) and Kiwi, since I emigrated to New Zealand when I was 28. NZ friends say I sound English, while my English friends and relations say I have a NZ accent. Confusing!
