'Moment of glee - not good for the knee!' ..

Love it! I think I will enlarge it and put it on the biscuit tin, the cake boxes and everything else that tastes nice in the kitchen. Xx

@Ellejay - The knee not swelling - could that be still being controlled by the cortizone shot? Sad but true, I prefer my knee to look like a puffer fish when it hurts as much as you are describing - at least both you and anyone around has visual validation that you feel like heck. Great news that you'll get to see the OS so soon - hoping for you that there is SOMETHING simple to fix to buy you some time for the first knee to be really stable before you have to go in again.

I completely understand your thoughts on meeting up with your newly fit friend...many of my friends are into CrossFit - pretty much boot camp but more indoors. I hesitate to say that I actually succumbed to giving it a shot - that would be right before this latest appointment where they showed me that not only do I have bone on bone all across, I am now actively creasing the bone - didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out how that was happening so I quit. Still bums me out.

@dogwheels...I think you should find a race track and celebrate your return to driving...carefully...snicker :driver:

LOL on the carrot cake for breakfast...join me on the dark side! I have bacon and eggs nearly every day...

Hello All - hope you had a good lunch with your friend @Ellejay and that knee isn't giving you too much grief.

I drove myself up to physio this morning, no probs and totally uneventful - just a bit of creative parking at the hospital to ensure no one parked too close to the driver's door!
Well I think my physio is officially the nicest of all! She said that she thought that I was doing well, had been brave and was working hard, so deserved some treats for doing so. Therefore, she is happy for me to go to 'proper shops' in town, as long as we park nearby, try and keep it to one hour of shopping and I do not do anything else strenuous for the rest of the day. She also agreed that I booked to go to the hairdressers (eek! maybe because my hair looked a bit awful?) So daughter and I are going to the shops first thing on Saturday morning before it gets too busy and we can park very near. Daughter has also chatted to the local hairdresser she goes to and has booked me in there, instead of my 'all singing all dancing multi level hair emporium'. They said they will give me a chair to put my leg up if necessary and accommodate my fidgeting about. I don't think my usual place would welcome someone with a dodgy leg propped up on a stool in their salon, or using a crutch to get up the open-plan multi-level back-washes, it would do nothing for their image! Anyway, back to physio -
Lots more deep massage and soft tissue work (ouch). But ..................... brief fanfare ......
........... 105ROM !!
I am delighted, despite having got there once before - but it is all a little bit spooky. I was at 105 ROM just before I saw my OS for my 6 week check-up, 6 weeks ago ........... just before with no pain or notice, everything went wrong and my knee stiffened up. So I am right, the bleed and haematoma have effectively doubled the length of my recovery. I just need to beat the jinx and get through the next week uneventfully :yikes: and continue building on that. Increase the bend as far as we can (OS reckons I should aim for 120 which would be an excellent result given the state of my knee pre-op) and repeat all the strength and weight bearing work, once it is deemed that the knee is stable and able.
One more hydro - my husband will miss the lingering smell of chlorine - and then just weekly land physio sessions. Physio thinks I will not be signed off by my OS at my X ray and check up in a fortnight, more likely he will set another sign off date about 2 or 3 months afterwards. We shall see.

A grumpy self pitying start to the day - but things are looking up!
X

Hi @ TexasTee and @Ellejay - all this talk of shoes. If you have a moment and are feeling shoe deprived, have a play on the design-them-yourself website www.shoesofprey.com . I have promised myself a pair once I am fully recovered and can wear a decent shoe again.
I have been experimenting with designing a pair, trouble is there are so many wonderful permutations, the end result tends to look like a drag artist's footwear :loll:

Carrot cake is made with carrots, therefore it is a vegetable. :ok: You were just being healthy.

I haven't been posting, but I have been reading on my phone and I'm sending big ((hugs)) to you and @Ellejay . It seems like however recovery goes - fast, slow, painful, not so bad, do-overs, whatever, we all seem to end up at the same place and hopefully that place will be a long lived, pain free one!

@TexasTee - I didn't think about the cortisone injection - you are absolutely right, that could be masking the swelling. Oh well, hopefully the OS won't be fooled by lack of swelling next week.
Funnily enough my husband has an appointment tomorrow morning at a different hospital for a problem with his knee. I was going to go with him, he has attended all of mine with me, but we decided it would confuse the staff too much if I limped in with my stick and he walked in and sat down to see the doctor.
Lunch with my friend was wonderful, three and a half hours, just one bowl of soup and lots of chat. She is amazing, she has lost 3 + stone! I literally didn't recognise her from behind! her shape has totally changed.
What fantastic news @dogwheels, 110 -well done! Permission to shop and have a hair do? What's not to like? Have a wonderful time when you go....and do take care this week xxx
Good to hear from you @DogLoverx3, I hope you are OK and your knees are behaving.
Speak soon xxx

@dogwheels - Love it, running off to see what I can create!! This could be dangerous

@Ellejay - ha! too bad you can't accompany your husband, perhaps you could have a two for one?
Glad you enjoyed your lunch and kudos to your friend, that's an amazing accomplishment.

@DogLoverx3 - I like that creative bit of veggie justification!

Hi all - quick update, I will say this quietly, very very quietly ........ I am hanging up my swimming costume for a while as my physio says hydro has worked its magic and my knee is bending better than she has ever seen it. So no more hydro, but I can go back anytime if I think things are stiffening a bit - or I can join the self-help group should I want to. So just land based sessions from now on ........... I hope!
She said my knee seemed to be bending so much better in the water than on land - I did feel like saying that my knee just doesn't like bending when I am laying flat which is the only way she will measure it - but hey, I'll take what I can get.
Today's triumph is that I am allowed to walk upstairs properly just once every day, providing it isn't painful. A small improvement, but an improvement none the less.
My hydro workout was quite lethal - really hard work and I am so tired this evening. @Ellejay - I had a proper sized, fully inflated rubber ring as resistance today - not the little plate sized one, and did a lot of the step exercises near the top of the steps in only mid calf height water, so that there was limited buoyancy assistancce. Talk about a muscle workout!
I was really grateful that husband took me there as I was quite tired when I came out - plus for some strange reason the car park was packed solid, so he dropped me off and came back later.

A friend came to visit this morning, which was great. She's a retired GP, so has useful insights although I have to be careful not to bombard her with questions, as I don't think it's fair. She was very impressed with my scar (its really neat and nice now) and was pleased to see how well I am walking. Before she arrived I did a wee bit on the bike wheels and managed to move the seat even further forward - so all in all quite a productive day.

Hope everyone has had good days too ...... I am looking forward to my bed tonight
X

WHAT?!?!? My favorite mermaid is hanging up her fin for a while? :sos: So glad that the hydro has helped and you're getting some good bend in your knee! Hopefully your hydro session was a good send off and doesn't put you in too much pain later this evening (which it already is there - duh). I've been busy running around like a chicken with my head cut off (okay, hobbling, really) as 'the move' is fast approaching and I'm not ready. I've not checked in much, but just sat down and saw your post.

Keep up the great work, my friend! xoxoxox

@dogwheels, that's wonderful news, and shows how much you are progressing. The session on the bike was good as well, and the stairs...you are really 'getting there' now, you deserve it to go well from now on.
@DogLoverx3, what with work and your move, you must be up to your eyes, it's nice to hear from you whenever you can get on here, but we all understand you are really busy, just know that we are all thinking of you and wish you all the best with the move xxxxx

Hello @DogLoverx3 - thank you as ever for 'keeping an eye on me' - and making me smile. Things do seem to be looking up a little and I am beginning to feel a little more 'normal' ....... well as normal as I could ever hope to be. I don't think I have ever been described as 'normal' in my whole life!
Yep - my husband will no longer have the faint whiff of chlorine floating around me - so alluring! And my 'fin' will be hung up with my swimmers for another day.
Gosh you must be so busy with your move - and work as well, so I really appreciate your stopping by with good wishes. I do hope that everything goes smoothly and your new place is everything you want it to be. Not long and you will get those answers about your knee, too. It will be an important few weeks for you and we will be thinking of you all the time.
Thanks @Ellejay for your continued support, I am cautiously optimistic as things are progressing gently and slowly but satisfactorily. I just need to get through this weekend which is the point everything went pear-shaped at the end of the first 6 weeks, when I was roughly at the same level of progress. I have every single thing that I can cross, crossed!
How's your knee today? Roll on Monday when you see your OS.

Well must stop now as I am totally done in and will soon cease to make any sense.
Talk tomorrow, take care and sleep well.
X

@dogwheels - congratulations!! Getting kicked out of hydro is a huge milestone, I know that you will have a terrific weekend and it will be down hill from here to life as you know it can be.

Sperry update - I got my new pair today and they seem just as comfy as the last ones...I don't know what Gilbert will think of them but both pair I bought have horsehair and Chloe is highly intrigued. These have a baby 1 inch wedge and an ankle strap making them look lots more dress appropriate - will wear them tomorrow and if they pass muster will be buying them in all the colors. I'm not sure if the UK sizing will be different but these fit perfectly in my normal size...so whatever your new "normal" is should be fine. I wonder if now that your nearly back in business if your feet will grow again? How interesting that they shrank in the first place. Is that common, do you know?

Hi @DogLoverx3 Good luck with your packing - no fun, I remember - but hopefully happier days are ahead!

Hi @Ellejay - we may still be knee buddies, after all - I tried to sweep the leaves off the drive yesterday (its TINY) and could barely walk last night. I'm really doubting that I'll be able to wait as long as I hoped. I need to schedule the appointment with the 3rd OS that I think I want to do the surgery to get his take as well as have everything ready. Not super looking forward to it but there is an element of lets just get this over with, as well.

Hi @Texas Tee - thanks for the Sperry update, especially about the sizing. The weather is gloomy and wet here today, which is a good excuse to start scanning the websites and decide which ones I want and how I am going to get them. Not sure about my shrinking shoe size being commonplace - could just have been a swelling issue? I really don't know. I'm going to see what happens once I am on my feet a bit more.
Husband is off for a couple of days over the weekend and daughter is taking me to the 'proper' shops for an hour tomorrow ........ so my 'fantastic plastic' (aka Credit and Debit cards), are all polished up and ready to go. It wont quite be a trolley dash, but I am hoping for a wee spending spree.
The following weekend he is off for 10 days sailing in Brittany with his yachting buddies. So all my online retail therapy will take place leading up to his departure, so that the parcels arrive and can be opened and put away before he arrives home. Sneaky sneaky ....
I have just bought the most wonderful smelling hair product - by Philip B - I think he is American?? It's a volumising styling product and had great reviews. The decider was that it smells of 'Oud' a Middle Eastern perfume smell that I adore. It arrived yesterday and I would truly like to bath in the stuff, it smells so great. So back online to order the matching shampoo, conditioner ..... etc. My hair might be looking a bit worse for wear until I get it done next week, but at least it will smell good!
Hope your knee is feeling a bit better today after your leaf sweeping activity. In my book, sweeping is one of the world's worst for knees - a real no-no
Have a good day and hope Chloe does not take a liking to those new horsehair wedges!
X

@dogwheels - I've never heard of Phillip B but I just googled it and they carry his stuff at nordstrom and I go there all the time, will check it out.

Who would have guessed that sweeping would have been more harmful than crossfit? But my knee certainly agreed so will avoid it in the future.

Hope you and your daughter have a wonderful time shopping - I'm meeting my daughter on Sunday for similar spree followed by pedicures. It's good to be a girl

Hello @TexasTee - it must be the Friday afternoon feeling TGIF! I assume that you are at work whilst you are replying to everybody on here. My daughter cannot settle this afternoon in work, she's bored and has been sending me a series of text messages of the 'Get me out of here!' variety. She is either completely fraught and working to a ridiculous deadline, or bored rigid - nothing in between.
I have just done my prescribed one per day 'normal' stair climb - absolutely no problems at all thank goodness. I am glad that I only go upstairs a couple of times during the day - otherwise the temptation to do it more would be quite considerable.
Hope you enjoy your spree and pedicures on Sunday. I have just ordered online the Oud shampoo and conditioner to go with the product that I bought - and hurrah, I scored a free trial pack of Philip B products. Yay! It is evilly expensive, but the money that I save by going to the local salon next week instead of my usual, will just about cover it. Tee hee! Its probably of no use to you, but the website is www.cultbeauty.co.uk - they offer free postage to US by FedEx on orders over £50. No use for American products as they should be cheaper where you are, but just saying .....
Enjoy your Friday -
ChrisX

Hi @dogwheels - definitely TGIF! Pretty slow day for me, I'd say my work is much like your daughters, either 12 hour days or so bored I'm researching something! I'm also required to do several online webinars and those are so deadly dull that you are just required to multitask :dead:

Score on the free trial pack! I just went to the salon last night and either they lowered their prices or I got some kind of discount - nice surprise, at any rate. This was my first trip back since my wedding so I had to show my stylist all the wedding pictures - he is planning his wedding, now so we had a great time comparing notes.

It is obviously a weekend to be with our daughters - mine has been away for the last week, she has been on a road trip with three friends. They have travelled all over, to the Lake District, up to the Cairngorms in Scotland.
She is now in Yorkshire but will be home on Sunday, in time to join us for Sunday lunch. She has only been gone a week but I've missed her so much.
Here's to a great weekend with our daughters

Hi @dogwheels just a quick hi And bye. I will post properly tomorrow. Thanks ever so much for posting while I was away. I loved reading the posts xxxxx
