TKR New Year, New Knee - Jan. 3, 2017<

Your doing a great job of self advocating with your pain control. Your leg looks great. Be patient and gentle with yourself. The first week is the hardest. You've got this Julie!

So, he gave me Toradol through iv before releasing me. I also received 2 - 10 milligram of Percocet. BUT - my sister went to his office to pick up the script and it is for 10 mg Percocet only 20 pills! I spoke to him and he seemed to think in a couple days I would be progressing to the 5mg Percocet which I have a script for too.

I slept from 10pm to 3:25 (alarm was set for 3:30. Anyway, I was like a 10.
Now 3 hours later, I'm like a 7. What else can I mix with this Percocet??????

If your pain is consistent today give your OS a call and let him know your pain is not under control.

@jaschembra that sounds light for pain meds, I was taking the 10mg of oxy for 2 weeks plus 650 mg of Tylenol, every 4 to 6 hours. My OS did not have any qualms, he gave me 100 to start (oxy)

Personally I always preferred Tramadol and paracetamol (Tylenol)

@Josephine thank you. Yes, I believe the plan is to eventually be on tramadol and Tylenol once the pain has gone down.

I was able to get additional meds from him today: no additional norcotics but something I van take in addition. I'm still not consistently below a 4 (more like. 5-7). On one of my conversations today I said, if the pain doesn't get controlled, I will go to the emergency room to get some relief!

On a funny note: my fingers are oftener dropping to accidentally touch a rating lol. That's when it's time to put away the iPad. The-he

Night all. Thanks for the comments.

@jaschembra Happy New Year and happy new knee! I'm so glad you're in recovery and that surgery went well. If the OS won't help with better pain control, consider calling your primary care doctor. If it's the weekend, there should be an on-call doctor. You cannot recover without proper pain management. Don't forget round the clock icing and my pillow stack elevation. You can do this! I'll check in on you again soon. Hugs

Slept good. Only waking up for meds. I am taking the 1 - 10 Percocet every 4 hours, dicofeniac twice a day instead of Meloxicam and I've taken a couple of Tylenol, making sure not to exceed the 3,000
The Percocet booster or med to enhance that is called Hydroxyzine Pamoate 3x per day @ 25 mg.

My pain can be around a 5 when walking in the house. Better than a 7 of yesterday. Not putting full weight on it versus the walker
@TML thanks for the info regarding the primary.

Swelling at the knee is pretty large. I've had it elevated and iced. No swelling in the calves or foot.

Chat with you later! Very grateful for sleep and appetite and my sister who is helping me!

Keep icing and elevating, this first week or two is the hardest. Hope your pain is low while resting. Just getting out of a chair would pop the pain up a couple numbers.

Getting a good night's sleep is such a blessing! And you are so blessed to be getting it so soon after your surgery! It sounds like you know what to do, so you'll get through this. Just remember to not let PT hurt you or make you hurt yourself! Less pain is more gain!

Waiting to hear back from my OS. I called this morning, but his assistant is have him call me. I would like to know why he will not prescribe Tramadol with this Percocet. With knowing how many BoneSmarties are on this cocktail, I'm not understanding why he is adamant about not increasing pain pills. The assistant told me he likes to treat pain by reducing inflammation and movement. My philosophy is, if you don't get the pain in a manageable state, you cannot get movement. I've been following the mantras by the way and am so blessed to be able to sleep with this pain stuff going around!!

I know we are all different but my friends mom just had hers done on Wednesday and the 10 mg of Percocet every 4 hours wasn't cutting it... her OS just prescribed for her today, 120 pills of Tramadol.

If my dr. Hasn't called me back by after lunch, I'm calling him again. They had told me he was with a patient and the didn't want me to wait- well, that was 2 hours ago! Living with this level of pain is no fun and I would be one happy camper if the proper medicine was being delivered for by body type. I'm just not your average patient lol

I'm not on the other side yet, but from what i've read here, something should be done by your OS. Also, he should be getting back to you ASAP.

Keep phoning your OS until you get the meds you need. It's the squeaky gate that gets the attention.

My sister and I are doing the happy dance around here! :spin:
My OS just called and they are prescribing all things I've read about on here! We are stopping the anti-inflammatory that bothered my stomach last year that they for some reason prescribed yesterday. We are continuing the Percoset and and adding Tramadol, Indosend SR (anti inflammatory), Gabapentin and continuing the Hydroxyzine Pamoate. I am so glad that I will finally be able to get ahead of this pain. I may not feel the best taking all this stuff, but we'll wait and see.

I have been sleeping from alarm to alarm and I've been eating fine. Thank you God.

my lovely, gracious sister had plunger duty - you know what that means!!! Yeah!!
