TKR New Year, New Knee - Jan. 3, 2017<

I had a block and everything seems to be going fine. Hoping we can manage the pain pretty easily after the block. I have been awake for the entire time since 12:35 when they rolled me into recovery!! Block, spinal and sedation is the way to go. Here's to new bionic knees!!!

Discovered the ice machine wasn't plugged into a working outlet - for the first 4 hours! I figured I couldn't feel it because of all the wrapping.

Next: back in bed and sleep. Phone alarm is set for next meds

Do you get any signs when the block begins to wear off?

Yippee! So happy for you! [emoji16]

You're probably thinking, "wow, the pain isn't nearly what I had thought it would be." I'd say that when the pain starts to creep back up and it feels like the knee is "waking up" then the block is probably wearing off. Do you know if he also gave you a shot of Exparel or something similar? If so, that will last several days. https://www.exparel.com/patient/about-exparel.php

Welcome to the beginning of the new you! I hope you have a pain free night and get some rest. I'll keep praying, you keep icing! Talk soon!

My OS just came in. All is good. I should be going home this afternoon

I asked the condition of the knee and he said "lousy". Bone in bone in 2 places and the kneecap was so worn down it had actually appeared polished. Also, he only had to use the tourniquet for about 8 minutes since he was using the porous implant. It didn't have to be so dry as cement needs

Just had my dressing changed - heavy duty stuff off and light dressing on. He said I can shower whenever but just use the waterproof dressing. Picture coming.

I believe my block was wearing off or had worn off around 5-6 am. I discussed with him my medicine for going home.

Make sure you have a fresh dose of pain meds before heading home. You don't want to be in the back end of the schedule for the drive and return to home.

I tried to find the medicine chart but I really don't think that 2-5mg Percocet is enough. He is allowing a Tramadol prescription for the step down med down the road (instead of Norco since I don't do well with hydrocodones). I believe my nurse said there is a 10mg Percocet as well.

What do ya'll think? Thank you very much

Awe! They gave me Toradol which brought down my immediate pain AND we believe my OS is finally convinced that I need the 10mg Percocet to go home with. I had 5mg with a scope and it barely covered my pain. I just want these scripts before we leave and my sister did just leave to go pick up the paper script

OT and PT went well. 1 more PT this afternoon Falling asleep while typing so I'd better stop.

Going home this afternoon. Good thing, 2 inches of snow is projected for tonight

You sound like you're doing really well--I'm so happy for you! Safe journey to your sister's house and enjoy the beautiful snow!

I'm glad things are going well for you. I hope your journey home goes smoothly.

Pumpkln posted your recovery reading list in Post#2, on the first page of your thread.

Sounds like you did really well! I'm so happy for you to be on the recovery side now.

Love Toradol! I needed a push of it on day 2 to get me over the hump. I'm relieved he's upped your meds to 10mg.
