I do hope you feel better later today.
I should imagine if these are your first visitors you have a fair amount of time to be alone with your pain.
You deserve a good distraction, add well as medication that will manage your pain better!
Hopefully that can happen tomorrow. Keep the faith, @Jamesdean :friends:

@Jamesdean
Sweet fa sounds like a good idea today. I hope your problems sort themselves out very soon.

Whereabouts in the UK are you?

Hi Bionic. In Hertfordshire in body but trying to imagine myself in South of France next June on holiday walking freely and no pain. , where are you and how you doing?

Happy Belated Three Week Anniversary!
I hope you're having a nice Sunday.
Wishing you a great week to come!
@Jamesdean

Hello @Jamesdean. My RTHR was Oct 8. Sorry to hear about your discomfort. Sounds like you are very active early in your recovery. I couldn’t imagine getting in & out of a taxi or car without contortions that would challenge the 90 degree rule. Just getting dressed, eek. Yes, I have no restrictions but adhering to that 90 degree advice keeps me from a lot of pain even still. I was still swelling those 1st 3 wks and had that feeling of release once most of the swelling left my ankles and feet. @Layla sent me a lot of good reading early on. Resting for 30 minutes 3x a day w ice was a huge help to staying pain free. Suddenly things did change from week to week then day to day. Good luck! :console2:

Thanks to everyone for advice and good wishes...it really does help. Relaxing elevating and bonesmarting. Less swelling, taking meds, pain more in upper thigh but twinges. Will continue with the sensible approach from now (first time I will do sensible in life).

One thing I have found really funny is when I see my shorts around my ankles as I had let go of the drawer string, toilet or bed, and then try to get them up using crutch as I forget to travel with grabber.
Also oddly amusing are some random bits of numbness on bum. I am sure there are bits you could stick a pin in and I would not know. Better news for my 62 year old friend that he is no longer numb....was a bit worrying .....

I'd really like to offer you some structured advice but in order to do that, I also need to ask you some questions. Are you willing for me to do that?

I'm glad you think that having your drawers hit the floor is amusing (which it is) but it was a real source of distress as I solicited my DH aid for about the third time.:blackcloud:
And the grabbers were bulky plus didn't want to have my grabbers for other stuff be my underwear picker-uppers:sick:
My sister came to the rescue with her telescopic backscratcher with a mini hand.
Left it in the bathroom as I was fairly brain fogged.
She said I could have them :snork:
[Bonesmart.org] New left hip 20 October<

Worked brilliantly!

@Jamesdean Hoping that you are getting some medication advice from the GP today. Keep resting, elevating and icing as much as you can. If you are consistent with this, you will see a shift in the pain and swelling, but it takes time, but it will happen. You need to be on be on a medication that you can take consistently for pain. I never would have believed how amazing Paracetamol is for pain, when taken on schedule, until now!

Hoping that your swelling comes down soon and the meds, icing and elevating helps with your pain and swelling.

Thank you @Alitm . Actually had forgotten how cocodamol had made me feel when I was taking them 6 months ago so will probably stick with what I have. My problem is like many on here was doing so well and after only two weeks walking quite a lot just one crutch and not much pain and now quite a lot of pain and not much walking. So for once in my life (song title) I will listen to advice and rest, ice, elevate, take it easy (song title) and hopefully let nature take its course with the healing and dream of holiday next year and of course The Summer Wind.

Sounds about par for the course. Once one one crutch it is very easy to overdo it. Just use heel to toe when walking and small steps rather than big strides. The icing and regular meds will really help. Judge your progress on a week by week basis and things will happen!

Thank you @SurreyGirl for sound advice. Will indeed try heel to toe and smaller steps....I went for the longer stride as its been over two/three years that I could put in a stride for a little while it felt brilliant but have probably/hopefully/definitely learnt my lesson now. At the moment just resting and walking about the flat, weather rainy, ground wet, will not risk outdoors until it dries. Thank heavens I bought a kindle.

I hope today is a better day...things can take a bit to get back on track after overdoing. Keep icing...great for inflammation and pain.
Sending good mojo your way!

:heehee: Your leg thanks you!
One month out is prime time for cabin fever and post-op blues...this recovery business can seem tedious.
And, like you, I didn't get alot of information about aftercare so my expectations were sometimes detrimental to my recovery.
Won't be too long and you will be back to life Hip Pain Free!:chuckmarch:

Tiniest bit of blood on dressing about the size of pinprick so no panic. However, pain at top of thigh which actually was alleviated by pulling stocking down for 15 minutes. Can't wait to get rid of the stockings. Like most guys was a big fan of stockings perhaps not on me though!!

Here y'go then!

It would be very helpful if you would answer each one individually - numbered as I have done - in as much detail as you can then I'll come back as see where you are

1. what approach did you have for your surgery? Anterior, posterior, lateral? You can look here to see the various types THR approaches or incisions

2. what are your pain levels right now? (remember the 1-10 scale: 1 = no pain and 10 = the worst you can imagine. And don't forget to factor in other forms of pain such as soreness, burning, stabbing, throbbing, aching, swelling and stiffness).

3. what pain medications have you been prescribed, how much are you taking (in mg please) and how often?

4. are you icing your painful area at all? If so, how often and for how long?

5. are you elevating your leg. If so how often and for how long?

6. what is your activity level? What do you do in the way of housework, cooking, cleaning, shopping, etc., and

7. are you doing any exercises at home? If so what and how often?
This is the most crucial question so please help me by using the format I have left as an example
(which means please make a list and not an essay!)

Exercises done at home
- how many sessions you do each day
- enter exercise by name then number of repetitions of each
etc., etc.

Anything done at PT
- how many times a week
- enter exercise by name then number of repetitions of each
etc., etc.
