I like the new format but wondered why the gender no longer appears on the right hand side profile??
I have a Mac and no problems with fitting on the screen or anything like that
thanks for all your work to do this.
The smileys dont appear as icons in the pull down menu but just as words???

The sponsors are the least of my worries if it keeps the site up and running then that's the main thing.
Once everything settles it should be fine, Richard how do you get these smiley's wouldn't mind downloading them for my own use but I have been warned off downloading them as they are infected with viruses.

I love this new look, nice and clean and fresh looking, although I too am not keen about the advertisers listed above but they do support us I spose and deserve recognition....JackiesLost
What a lovely surprise when the new page popped up for me. I immediately like it and much prefer the colour scheme. Thank you to FARM and all the technicians who have brought about this great update. I look forward to finding my way around.

Thanks for all the quick feedback, everyone! Really appreciate it. I've selected a few quotes from the comments above, and I'll address them individually:
Steph, this is an excellent suggestion. We have to leave the sponsors visible for 1st time visitors, but for "regulars" like yourself, I think it's a great idea to allow an option of removing them. Like a little "X" on the right side of the sponsor bar. I don't see any reason to show the sponsors' logos to you constantly every time you visit. I'll put that on our to-do list and see what we can do.
Pat, I think you put it well. We'll try to introduce some changes in the future that bring back more of the "friendly" style. It will be a balance with the "industrial" feel, which we call "modern", which is aimed at improving usability.
Pat, try selecting the "Easy Reader 2.0" skin (at the bottom of your page, above the "FARM" logo). That will enlarge the font for you, without you having to "zoom in" or make your screen larger.

In addition to the year of work that went into planning, design, and all the technical stuff, last night we had 7 people in 3 countries working through the night to "go live". With a few relatively minor last minute corrections, it went very smoothly. Glad it seems the same way to you. And yes, it's time to celebrate!

Grateful, try this: select "Easy Reader 2.0" as your skin. Then hold down the "CTRL" key on your keyboard while you press the "-" (minus) key. This will "zoom out" your browser to make more room for the forum on your screen. So you'll have a larger font with "Easy Reader 2.0", then you'll zoom out to fit it on your screen. Hope that works.
Grateful, from what I'm reading in the replies above, you're not alone. So we're going to look into adding an option for you to 'remove' the sponsor bar at the top of your screen. No guarantees, but we're looking into options.
Hmm, I didn't notice that gender no longer appears in the profile. It certainly wasn't removed intentionally. Is this an identifier that you look to frequently? How about anyone else? Do you miss the 'gender' label on the profiles? As for the smileys, they'll be back soon!
Forbesy, you're right...the grey background is part of the issue, and then the text itself is also (darker) grey...so that makes for less contrast than, say, black on white. I'll take a to-do to darken the text and see if that helps.

Jeremy, Jo had previously identified the loss of the gender icons in our staff comments thread, post #42. I imagine you were pretty busy last night 
and you could easily have missed it!
We actually DO use that icon because sometimes it is difficult to tell from someone's username or even their posts whether they are male or female. It is always nice to get the gender right when you are writing to someone!!
So, while this isn't life or death....it is important to the BoneSmart staff and our members.

Jeremy, in regard to this link, I have found the following additional information for you. The TODAY'S POST link is on a tool bar at the bottom of the page when you are logged out. If you log in, it is replaced by the NEW POSTS link. These are two different functions and we need both of them when you are logged in. They were both available on the old forum format.

The gender icons were post bit hacks that Rich added for us, so they need to be redone, I think.
Plus our smileys aren't infected with virus as they are(were) uploaded direct from my computer and I've had them for years! You can feel completely safe with them!

I will continue to use 1.0 as long as it's available. I still use Windows Classic view too - so that's just me. Having the narrower working space is what I miss most with the 2.0 setup. That being said, 1.0 or 2.0, the forum is the most user freindly one I have ever used - so thanks.
Some of them don't seem to be working just right, Jo....the ones with the motion....like hugzzz:th_hugzz:, the jumping one:th_jumpy: and this one :th_yay:.
