Thanks for all the quick feedback, everyone! Really appreciate it. I've selected a few quotes from the comments above, and I'll address them individually:
Like the others though, not keen on the logos at the top of the screen - it does make the screen quite small. Is there anyway we can have the option of removing them in the same way that we can remove frames on some search pages? That way we can keep them if we want to.
Steph, this is an excellent suggestion. We have to leave the sponsors visible for 1st time visitors, but for "regulars" like yourself, I think it's a great idea to allow an option of removing them. Like a little "X" on the right side of the sponsor bar. I don't see any reason to show the sponsors' logos to you constantly every time you visit. I'll put that on our to-do list and see what we can do.
Everything looks so new and modern and clean! Maybe more industrial and less cottage friendly in style, but I think I'm going to like it.
Pat, I think you put it well. We'll try to introduce some changes in the future that bring back more of the "friendly" style. It will be a balance with the "industrial" feel, which we call "modern", which is aimed at improving usability.
I just realized.....the print is too small to be read comfortably (on my 14") laptop. When I make it larger by any means, the message goes off the screen and I have to scroll to read. That makes it really slow going.
Pat, try selecting the "Easy Reader 2.0" skin (at the bottom of your page, above the "FARM" logo). That will enlarge the font for you, without you having to "zoom in" or make your screen larger.
Thanks again....you guys did an amazing job. Like others I worked with software releases and NEVER did they go this smoothly. Of course, that's EASY to say from this side of the computer screen! I bet you guys have a much different tale to tell from your end. So pop the cork on the champagne, the new baby is here, and it's time to celebrate!
Jamie, thanks for the kind words. In addition to the year of work that went into planning, design, and all the technical stuff, last night we had 7 people in 3 countries working through the night to "go live". With a few relatively minor last minute corrections, it went very smoothly. Glad it seems the same way to you. And yes, it's time to celebrate!
In the Photo Album section, when you call up an album with multiple photos in it and enlarge the photos so you can make comments or edit them, you can move with a click to the FIRST photo or the LAST photo. But there is no arrow or word to click on to get to the NEXT photo in the series.
Jamie, thanks for this, I will take it as a to-do and have someone look into it. I may contact you for more details if I need 'em.
Thanks for what I'm sure was a ton of hard work. ... The format is too wide for my screen also: when I tried Easy Reader 1.0 it fit, but was back to the red and yellow and became some kind of hybrid between the two versions. Easy Reader 2.0 is still too wide for everything to show up on my screen.
Grateful, try this: select "Easy Reader 2.0" as your skin. Then hold down the "CTRL" key on your keyboard while you press the "-" (minus) key. This will "zoom out" your browser to make more room for the forum on your screen. So you'll have a larger font with "Easy Reader 2.0", then you'll zoom out to fit it on your screen. Hope that works.
The only thing I REALLY don't like about the new look is the parade of sponsors across the top: I agree that it feels tacky. However, if they are responsible for us having free access to this wonderful resource (what would we do without it), then it seems a small price to pay. So I guess I have talked myself out of my objection.
Grateful, from what I'm reading in the replies above, you're not alone. So we're going to look into adding an option for you to 'remove' the sponsor bar at the top of your screen. No guarantees, but we're looking into options.
Hi. I like the new format but wondered why the gender no longer appears on the right hand side profile?? ... The smileys dont appear as icons in the pull down menu but just as words???
Hmm, I didn't notice that gender no longer appears in the profile. It certainly wasn't removed intentionally. Is this an identifier that you look to frequently? How about anyone else? Do you miss the 'gender' label on the profiles? As for the smileys, they'll be back soon!
Having now looked at the new and old post the colours appear sharper in the old. would it not be better to revert the background which seems grey ? to white.
Forbesy, you're right...the grey background is part of the issue, and then the text itself is also (darker) grey...so that makes for less contrast than, say, black on white. I'll take a to-do to darken the text and see if that helps.
