Barbie, I am so glad the doctor got back to you promptly and wants to see you. I hated thinking that Mayo dropped the ball. I'm with Special Lady....I want them to be extremely thorough; I want them to figure out what is really happening; and I want you to return home with a manageable treatment plan and a sense of a positive future ahead. Everyone following your thread will be eagerly awaiting your news when you return home. Fingers crossed till then

Sharon

I think you are very wise to be making this trip...long drive as it is. I am impressed that the surgeon made time for you on such short notice. Hon, that is a sign he is an excellent and compassionate doctor. It sounds to me like he may help you get to the bottom of things. I hope you write out all your questions and concerns so you get to ask everything that's been on your mind. God bless you and we'll be waiting to hear the outcome of your meeting. Drive safely!!

Good luck Barb, I am sure you will get some answers. I will be waiting for that all important update from you when ever you can after seeing your OS.. This is good :)

BarbieJ, How are you today. I understand you went to the doctor. Could you share it with me? I know the answer is out there but just needs to be found so you can return to be the wonderful person you are without pain. Have you hug your :puppysmooze: today. Here are some hugs for you. :console2: :console2: :console2:  Tashia :friends: Please take care.

Sending warm thoughts that all will work out after your trip to the Mayo.

BACK AGAIN
My trip from Mayo did not uncover anything solid. I saw 4 doctors. I have a general intern which they needed to get me with to act as a case manager.
I saw the allergist/ dermatologist. It is in one department at Mayo. They ordered patch tests for metal allergy. Needs to be two months from now since I had a cortisone shot.
Neuro said I have meralgia paresthesia and femoral cutaneous nerve damage. He has ordered an MRI and EMG on May 21 and 22.
I saw a gynecologist to rule out that. The internal exam was very painful on the surgical side with pressure. He thinks my pain is related to my prosthesis and is resulting in pelvic pain.
I showed each doctor my rash which is still extremely painful but has faded and all said that they could not comment on it since I have no redness and it has faded. I think it is returning now that I am off of the cephalexin.
We drove home last night. We saw deer in the fields but thankfully no kangaroos, Poppet!
I am on gabapentin now.
I am very sad because I feel this is going so slowly, as my condition declines. I needed a wheelchair at Mayo. I could use my cane once I was at the right area. I am resting now and hoping for some solid information. The dermatologist and neurologist both feel that even with a revision, I will be dealing with this pain. The gynecologist was concerned that my chronic pelvic pain is progressing. He thinks opening me up and looking may be where I am headed. He had 8 patients before me with chronic pelvic pain after a surgery at another hospital. All different surgeries.
Thanks for your kind thoughts. I wish my pain were not progressing.

Oh well, some good stuff came out of it then - more investigations! Hope they come up with something solid soon.

I so understand your feeling of being down. I agree some good came out of it. Sometimes it takes time to find out whats going on. I do hope you are taking something so you are out of pain. Now that you are having lots of prayes coming your way. Take care. Tashia

Hi Barb, you are most certainly having a long recovery journey... but you will get there.

As Jo indicated, tests are being ordered, so it is moving in the direction of getting a definitive diagnosis. Stick with us, you know we are here for you :)

I agree, Barb. I know it's frustrating to not have answers NOW. But sometimes these things do take a long time to get resolved. Poppet is right, though.....you'll have us to lean on!

Sounds like they're getting some answers. The good thing is our nerves can heal, and with proper care the meralgia can be put to rest. Hopefully with your appts. on the 21st and 22nd you'll have even more answersansweranswers.

Glad your trip there and back home weren't too hard on you.

Barb I know how things can feel so out of control. But you must remember that sometimes it is that way. What kind of hobbies do you have. If I didn't have my sewing I would be so depressed. It allows me to get my mind off of things and lets me play. Take care and do know there are lots of prayes for you. Your friend, Tashia

Barb, I just dropped by to say HI. I wish I could wave a wond and have all this go away. But I know I can't but I can let you know I am here for you. Take care my friend. Tashia

Barbie,

Dropping by to check on you, please don't give up. There are solutions to what you've posted the Mayo felt to be a contributing factor causing your pain. Who is your orthopaedic at the Mayo Clinic? I've been keeping you in my prayers. What did the Mayo feel caused the skin irritation on your hip/thigh/rear? Where do you stay when you go to the Mayo, I am impressed with all the connecting hotels, they're all so helpful and understanding to the Mayo clinic patients. They had a wheelchair waiting by our door the day I was going to be discharged, so that my son could bring it to the hospital and bring me back to the hotel....they told us to keep it in our room to use until we checked out.

Post an update whenever you feel up to it.

special lady, I would love to know where you stayed. My problem with staying downtown is that I have a dog. I have been staying at the Holiday Inn Express by Saint Mary 's. they charge me $40 for my dog but its cheaper than kenneling him. They are very kind there. My husband has to push me in a wheelchair when I am there. When I went in January I could walk it still, but not anymore.
I showed all 4 doctors my skin where I had the rash that the ER dr thought was cellulitis. All 4 doctors told me that they could not comment on the rash since it was fading. It is returning and I think the ER dr was correct.

Hang in there special lady. Must be very tough but hopefully soon you will have some answers and solutions.

@BarbieJ .....I stayed at The Grand Kahler which really have excellent rates this time of the year, same rates that you've probably been paying. I also noticed they do allow pets, I don't know if they charge a pet fee since I didn't need to bring a pet. To me I found the Grand Kahler to be the most convenient to restaurants, Mayo/all departments departments compared to other hotels around and even connected to the Mayo. Since the weather is warmer now you literally just have to walk/wheelchair out the front doors and the main entrance is directly accross the street, same goes for using the pedestrian subway walk, just a few minutes further, only because it takes you to a different entrance.

We also found it further to get to the restaurants if & when we used the pedestrian subways, because we discovered the outside entrances were less then a block away or less. Plus The Kahler has a restaurant and Starbucks in part of the lobby. If you look it up don't confuse it with the Kahler Inn and Suites.

@Maeve ....I think you meant to tag BarbieJ.
