Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Wow Janet - that's some hardware! Well done for getting it posted! @Josephine:

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

it does not look straight in there to me! could you have FINALLY found the source of your pain???!!!!!

xoxoxo,
Linda

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

That's better. But you didn't confirm it was cementless.

Okay - in this AP shot (front to back) you can see there is a small space on the right of the stem but on the left, it's tight against the bone. So much that it has worn a slight depression in the bone, a slight dished effect that fits around the end of the prosthesis.

And in the lateral view of this same point, there is a lot of space either side of the stem and, indeed, all the way up it.

I would say that this stem is most definitely loose. But then IANAD! (I am not a doctor!!)

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Thanks Jo. And no, it is NOT cemented, sorry. Or at least it doesn't say so on the OR report...it will be very interesting to see what the CAT scan shows. That being said, when I had the MRI last October, why did that not show anything?

Is it because the hardware doesn't give a good read? It did however show the edema in the bone marrow...

All I know is, I'm tired, have gained more weight, cry a lot from both pain and frustration, and don't get much relief from percocet any more...as well as not being able to climb stairs or cut my toe nails, among other things.

I've know all along that something is terribly wrong...was just hoping that time or pt would fix it .

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Lets hope Jo is correct Then they can hopefully fix you.We just know when something is wrong.I am glad Jo is not a doctor, she tells things as they are! unlke some.Onwards and upwards girl :thumb:

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Ok, I haven't seen many x-rays of stems, but that looks quite unusual to me - so wide at the tip. And yet there are still spaces between stem and bone (apart from where you actually need the stem a bit more tapered where it then rubs against the bone...).

Let's hope you can persuade the doctor to take a good, long look at those x-rays again. Or at least, that he bothers to take the time to look at them properly.

And let's also hope you can get this put right and it solves your pain problems.

Stay strong.

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Hey Janet - at least now you are armed with information. Hopefully everything you have picked up here will give you the confidence to discuss and question when you need to.

Chin up Janet! :thumb: I have a good feeling you are heading in the right direction - finally!

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Me too Jaycey. You see, I couldn't just have a OS operate for the sake of operating, and nobody has been able to tell me WHY I have been in pain for so long.

Mainly becuase it was the first OS who would NOT admit to anything being wrong in the first place, even an LLD! Little egomaniac...and, who let me believe that it was the "shove" in the first rehab that broke my femur.

Boy, if I can't get a lawyer now with all this info, then there is something VERY WRONG with our judicial system. "First, do no harm..." isn't that the beginning of the Hippocratic Oath?

Once again, thank you everyone :grouphug2:

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Unfortunately, they don't take the Hippocratic Oath these days! But it's sure looks loose to me - very loose! That depression in the bone at the tip of the prosthesis is a dead give away. I cannot imagine how any surgeon would look at that and declare there to be nothing wrong. How could he sleep nights?

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Apparently very easily...I think his sleeping nights are over for a while. I plan on having him lose a lot of sleep...just like I have :secretaea:...

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Oh Janet....your case is a lawsuit I'd love to work on! I am not one to say malpractice easily. Doctors are human; mistakes are made. But to refuse to acknowledge it and work like hell to fix the errors....that is unconscionable and actionable....I think. (3 weeks of law classes and I'm already making legal talk!! :)

This is why I can't leave Bonesmart. Gotta know how everyone's stories turn out. Especially yours. I'll stay tuned.

Sharon

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Janet, I'm so glad Jo has given you some solid information to take to your new surgeon for discussion. I pray this will help you finally get to a place where real healing can begin. Please never give up trying!!!

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Aww Jamie, I have NEVER given up trying. And, I am so sorry that I became such an angry person for a while because of all this pain and frustration (and medication?).

You guys never gave up on me though, and have stuck with me thru the worst of it (I hope this was the worst of it). I can get thru another surgery, I just hope that if I must do it again, I won't end up worse off still!

That has always been my biggest fear...should I just leave well (or bad)enough alone ...? Can't things always get worse?

Well, I haven't got the final verdict yet, so no sense even wondering if the third time will be the charm...

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Hi Janet

I just wanted to say, in the public forum of all of us 'smarties', that I am so humbled by your ability to continue to give so much support to so many people on a daily basis - always helpful and kind. You are an inspiration and the world could do with a few more selfless people like you. Keep on posting, you are part of the backbone (if not pelvis/femur etc!) of this site.

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

OMG! Catherine, I don't know what to say! Thank you ...

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

:cry4:There ya go...I read this to Bill...you've made me cry! Thank you...

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Off to the doctor...stabbing pain in side for over 24 hours now, lower right side of tummy actually at pelvic bone level. Comes and goes. Had all that unexplained nausea all last week as well :hairpulling:...Oh joy! And I was wondering what that big black spot was on my x-ray? I may just find out!

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Oh Janet - hope it's nothing. Take care and do let us know!
