Re: This is my story

I know. The one that was recommended to me WILL NOT meet with the patient until he reviews all the records and then decides if he will in fact take you as a patient. Rock and a hard place here as no one can figure out what is wrong.

I'm beginning to think my leg is going to have to break again before anyone can see that there is something drastically wrong ...

I am going to discuss all this with my GP IF I don't end up going to the Trauma Center this weekend.

Re: This is my story

Between a rock and a hard place about explains it, Janet. You are in my prayers ....

Re: This is my story

Sorry things aren't coming along for you. So anyway, I've been thinking.

If you can find another excellent knee Doctor (and not have to wait until the end of Nov). I could see both knee Doctors I went to w/in day or two down here. So let's say you can find a new, very good knee guy.

You tell him your knees hurt. You will have to tell him your hip hurts obviously. And maybe he will x-ray both and see something possiby no one else sees?

Just a thought.:sigh: Everything's connected. My knee Dr. told me I had early arthritis in my hips and he's not a hip guy.

Re: This is my story

Janet,
You probably don't want my story on your story thread, but I'm hoping it helps with your fears.

At the end of 2002, I went into hospital for a hysterectomy. It was for a relatively minor problem, but I said 'go ahead anyway'.
But....
An operation which should have been quick took nearly 5 hours, because I nearly bled out on the operating table and an exploratory op was also performed.
Then, 2 days later, I developed a kidney infection which turned into the beginning of kidney failure.
Twice, I could have died.
It was then discovered that the surgeons had made 'a bit of an error' which led to 2 more major ops and 4 minor but painful ones.
It took me a year to recover physically and much longer to recover mentally.
But I did.

But given the choice I had decided that I would never, ever let a surgeon touch me again!
After those previous events I had feared the worst - like 'things only go wrong with one patient in several hundred thousand, but that one could be me again!'

And then I fell and broke my hip......

And despite being in a country where I struggled with the language (and doctor-patient culture), everything turned out ok and my hip replacement went well (although, given past experience, for a long time I feared the worst).
Which is why I'm so happy on my thread. And you may have read me saying that my hip feels 'normal' most of the time.
But it has taken nearly 6 months for me to discover this, as that previous experience has left me wary of saying 'it feels good' out loud just in case.

So, I guess what I'm saying here is that just because things have gone wrong for you before (and in droves!), that doesn't mean they will again.
I completely understand your fear of having a revision and the endless searching for confirmation of your decision on the internet.
But at the end of the day, a revision could well be the answer.

Hope that rambling made sense. :what:

Thinking lof you :friends:

Re: This is my story

Oh Suzie, of course it makes sense! I feel the ONLY choice I have of ever leading a somewhat normal life is to try a third time. I think/know that Jo and others feel that way as well, whether the stem is loose, misplaced, whatever, I have not had a "NORMAL" day since March 19, 2010.

I live in fear every day that at any time the femur will fracture again because the THR was done wrong. I can feel that it is wrong. And I am sure that no xray, etc. is going to show what is wrong with it. BUT, will it EVER get done correctly??? That is a big fear!

The only thing that will fix it is having a new surgeon get inside to see what is wrong. I do think my current OS, who does tons of THR's a year and who is also a revision specialist, is quite capable of putting me back together.

My problem at the moment is trying to get thru this again with my knees now being in so much pain. I literally don't have a good leg to stand on. And I also feel that the previous fracture needs to be considered as I'm not so sure my femur will not break again. I have very tiny bones.

I think that seeing my GP on Monday is going to be the beginning of getting the ball rolling on another revision. I am living on percocet just to get thru the day now. My nerves are shot. I am not sleeping as I can't lie on either side anymore. It is not a fun way to be existing. That is it in a nut shell right now...I am existing, not living.

So, she will get to the bottom of this. My worse fear has been that I am so weak since the previous surgeries that I don't have ANY strength left now. I am overweight and trying to recuperate on non weight bearing terms is difficult for a strong person.

But, I am tough, if not strong. My worse fear of all is adequate pain managemnt as like Lindawalms I am opiod tolerant and had a terrible time convincing the other team of medical staff that i was in horrific pain thru most of it. It was a living hell to go thru. And two weeks of it was with an undiagnosed fracture.

So that is it in a nutshell. Getting up the nerve to say let's just do it! Enough already. It is definately what I feel, I just can't get the words out. FEAR :hate-shocked:!

Re: This is my story

Janet

I don't really know what to say that would offer you any help but I do want to send you my sincere good wishes.

I do hope your doctors can get to the bottom of your very real problems at a gallop and not a stroll.

We are all thinking of you

Re: This is my story

Ok, seriously now as I am trying to muster up some courage for Monday, @Josephine: do you know of ANYONE in the Hippie section who has had multiple HIP revivions? I know you don't have a member who had a missed fracture that required a revision two weeks later, like me. Anyone?

Re: This is my story

Not on here but I've scrubbed for a few. Depending upon the history, the revisions weren't any more difficult than any other revision.

Re: This is my story

How about the long term success rate or recovery time? My last one, of course , is apparently still ongoing (NOT!)! I think I'm saying "UNCLE" Jo! Of course, that depends on my chat with the GP on Monday...

Re: This is my story

Janet You are still a fighter. That comes through loud and clear despite the wearing down from the pain and stress. Good luck Monday and with a strategy in place, fear notwithstanding, I hope you get a big boost and start to feel in control at last. :prayer1:

Re: This is my story

Janet,

I'm thinking of you, praying and hoping that your feeling better soon... I feel so bad for you and all your going through. Peace to you sweetheart.

Re: This is my story

I'm actually feeling quite relieved today. Thanks for all your support. It is actually very comforting to know that I have you all behind me. Tomorrow I see my GP and I'm ready with my list of everything that has been going on since June actually, and what a list!

When I made the appointment it was because I told her during a one of my sick visits that we never have a chance to talk much. She said to schedule an appointment just to talk! Well, so much has happened since i was able to make the appointment that this is perfect timing!

Health care today is all RUSHED! The docs are told to see waaayyyyy too many patients in a day, something like one every 15 minutes. How can you get proper treatment when the doctor is rushing out the door?

Tomorrow I am armed with quite a list. I am not leaving until EVERYTHING is addressed. That infection seems to be what set off all this pain as well as the prednisone and I need to be taken seriously. Something happened to me at some point and I am going to get to the bottom of it.

I don't care what tests she will schedule, I am demanding results. This has affected my replacement as well as other joints and SHE should be the one working for me, not me chasing my tail not knowing where to turn next!

This whole ordeal has taken such a toll on me mentally as well as physically and there has to be an answer out there. It would be awful to have another revision and be no better off. Even my labs show that things are not right and no one has been able to figure that out either!

So anyway, fingers crossed we get somewhere tomorrow. All of these doctors that I have been seeing are very good but they need to take me seriously now and not be rushing to the next patient without addressing ALL my problems and I am going to finally demand it!

I'll give an update when I get home sometime tomorrow afternoon.

Thanks again for being there for me. You have no idea how much I need you guys and appreciate your help :wubroses:

Re: This is my story

Janet

I am relieved by your new found strength.

I think you have now got the completely right attitude - I know its difficult and can be draining.

Keep at them - demand answers. You are owed them.

Regards

Dave
