Re: This is my story

You've got the right attitude going in, Janet. Here's to the fighter we all know you are!!!! :ccheers:

Re: This is my story

I just can't take any more Jamie. Nobody should have to live in constant pain. I am on pretty strong medication and it is not working. What's wrong with this picture :hissyfit:...

Re: This is my story

All the best tomorrow Janet. We'll all be there with you in spirit! Fingers the toes crossed!

Re: This is my story

Best wishes for Monday Janet.
And you INSIST on getting through that list.
And INSIST on having ALL of your concerns taken seriously.
You deserve the best. :friends:
And YOU CAN GET THROUGH THIS.
It probably won't be easy, especially given that you are so tired and stressed from the pain and uncertainty right now.
But YOU WILL get this sorted.
And YOU WILL FEEL BETTER again.

Thinking of you.:friends:

Suzie

Take care

Re: This is my story

Good for you, Janet! I'm glad you made the appointment to talk with your doctor AND made the list to take in with you. :yes 4:

You are so right about this: "Health care today is all RUSHED! The docs are told to see waaayyyyy too many patients in a day, something like one every 15 minutes. How can you get proper treatment when the doctor is rushing out the door?"
I have found the best time to see my GP is 8am on Monday morning - horrible time for me but my doctor is rested from the weekend, his nurse is rested, he hasn't had time to get caught up in an emergency, his schedule is still "on time", he hasn't yet been dragged into what ever office politics/snafus are going on, and he is more willing and able to spend the extra time to be thorough.

I sure hope you can get the answers you need and some resolution to the problems that have been plaguing you!

[Bonesmart.org] Nanamac's story - Part 2
Well, being the holiday, xray was closed at my GP's office but apparently I need NEW KNEES TOO! I may need the hip re-done too as she thinks I probably did loosen the implant with the fall. Can those reattach on their own I wonder? Uugh :hairpulling:...

She wants me to return to New England Baptist and have an OS that she recommended look at both. Then, have him refer me to an experienced revision specialist for my hip(S) if he isn't one! She only knows about this guys reputation with knees. She was not at all impressed with how my new OS here just handled this.

So here we go again! I know NEBH is an excellent hospital, I just got a surgeon who was too inexperienced. My daughter does NOT want me to return there under any circumstances. I haven't told any of this to Bill yet as he is working today.:arghh::arghh::arghh:

Re: This is my story

Oh...dear Janet......this is a lot to have dropped on you today. I'm so sorry! Did you see the xrays of your knees? Would you be able to get a copy so you could post them for Jo to take a look at?

Since you WERE happy with this surgeon, you really have some thinking to do before deciding how you want to proceed. It never hurts to have multiple opinions, though. So...even though it will be a royal pain, you may want to consider taking her advice and having her surgeon check things out.

(((((HUGS))))), hon...I know you need them right now.

Re: This is my story

Don't have any xrays of my knees yet Jamie, it was closed today for the holiday. I could go to the hospital as I have the req for them but I'm going to wait until I see the knee guy. My appointment with a local knee OS isn't until 11/22, but I will call to see if he gets any cancellations before that.

For me, the idea of going back to NEBH is the same as my daughter feels. I am not full of happy memories from there. And, trying to get there costs me $100 every trip as I don't drive into Boston.

And no, I don't have anyone to take me. Bill and I always have to pay for a ride...

Re: This is my story

Oh my goodness. Now wait until you see x-rays. You just never know.

When I got home after seeing the 2nd OS with news I needed new knees. I threw all my paperwork across the room. And burst out crying. And did a little bit of screaming.

But, I must say, a doc-in-a-box (me not having any idea why me knees hurt) told me I needed new knees, before OS 1 an OS 2 visits.

Does the big hospital have transportation from smaller towns? This stuff is important enough to get to the right person, and I do understand the issues you have.

Re: This is my story

(((Janet))) It must be so frustrating trying to hunt down the best OS to evaluate and treat the problems you're having! Though I agree seeing some one new - and some one who is really an expert in revisions is a good idea. I sure hope your doctor's recommendation is really the best person. I'm a bit skeptical if your doc doesn't know that this surgeon IS a specialist in revisions .... I would hate to see you have to go through an eval with this person only to then be referred to someone else. You might want to Google the name she gave you and see what you find ..... or Google "best orthopedic surgeon in the Boston area" .... I, for one, like the idea of doing "virtual leg work" before scheduling an appointment with anyone. And maybe some pre-screening phone work too - ie asking to speak to the surgeon's nurse, PA or medical assistant and asking very specifically about the surgeon's experience in this area, how many he does a year, etc. Else where here at Bone Smart it was also suggested to talk to PTs you might know and get recommendations from them - they probably know the work of the area surgeons better than most folks as they see the aftermath of surgery all the time and would know who does great work and who does not.

Re: This is my story

I think the referral from your Dr. is a good start Janet. I'm assuming your GP has hundreds of patients and 'hears' a lot about joint issues. Always keep in mind looking further too.

Not so sure about the Voted best Dr. thing. I did that with an ear Dr. and he was such a jerk. Guess I got spoiled as my Grandad was an ENT. : (

Re: This is my story

I misunderstood, Janet. I thought your GP had taken some preliminary xrays. Without those, it's pretty hard to say that you definitely need your knees replaced. So.....I think you do need to hold off on thinking that is the diagnosis until you see the OS.

Re: This is my story

I agree with Jamie Janet. Until you have xrays and speak to an OS I would necessarily assume you need your knees done.

Sure hope you can get an earlier appointment! :friends:

Re: This is my story

Hi
I am new to this forum but just wanted to say I know exactly how you feel being in constant pain is horrid. I have had constant pain for a year now, I have to use crutches and life is generally very difficult. I have a 20 month old girl and I just want to be "normal" for her...

I hope you get a solution soon xx

Re: This is my story

Oh Janet - feeling for you and sending love, prayers, wishes and hopes and demanding angels and hoping you have enough chocolate. Wish I could come over and drive you around.
