Re: This is my story

Hi Janet, how are you today? As Phillygirl said, you need to go to a teaching hospital. Pls read my thread about Prednisone. I got my appointment with the Rheumatologist at our teaching hospital in Toronto. My surgeon referred me with a note 'not to compromise the outcome of my replacement and see me asap'. They were amazing, sent me for all kinds of tests that cannot me done at a regular lab, special xray machines and tests. I was sent home with 3 injections, methotraxate for 3 months until the tests come back and want to put me on other special meds. I do not know really what to make of all that, but s...t happens, and my body is out of whack since 4 weeks post op.
I am thinking of you, feeling for your misery, my dear. Pls get a referral to a major teaching hospital who specializes in rheumatology.

Re: This is my story

Hi Janet! I'm reading great suggestions from your Bone Smart friends! I know you will soon turn the corner and find out what the devil is going on!

Re: This is my story

Hi Janet

Agree and think it may be time to go and get yourself the treatment you deserve, what have you got to lose by trying out this clinic.
You appear to be struggling and hope there are people close by who can support you and give you help if needed.
I wish i could come over and help out to tell the truth and kick some bahookie. :th_heehee:

Re: This is my story

Hello Janet

I think you have been really let down by the professionals we all put our trust in. Frankly as Forbsey put it so well they need a good ar-- kicking. Often easier said than done.

We know that sometimes there are no easy answers and there is a process of elimination. However in your case you seem to be passed from pillar to post - still with no answer.

I think the suggestions of the clinic are excellent.

I really hope you can get a resolution really soon

With best wishes

Dave

(Janet - I still think your implant is loose)

Re: This is my story

And I think you are probably right Jo...

But, what about all this other stuff that's been going on? Related somehow? God, can I go thru this again Jo? My legs are so weak now...

Re: This is my story

Janet I do hope there has been some improvement for you. Get worried when you don't post for a few days!
Take great care
Huge hugs

Re: This is my story

Hi Janet,
I am new to this site, but read your story. I am so sorry you have had such a tough time with your THR and RA. Prednisone is a known bone killer, but when you have RA I know your drug choices are limited. There are a couple of new drugs out, but I know that you are working with a specialist for the arthritis. She should be able to give you any information on those.

I hope your thigh pain is less now. Has anyone discussed wth you the xray with ID#133769 as shown in your June 19 posting? I see a line (fx?) toward the bottom of that film at the tip of the prosithis that could be something. I don't read xrays, but I would ask your OS. Could this be causing you the pain the your thigh?

I hope you are having a good day today. My thoughts are with you.

Nan

Re: This is my story

Well...I fell! Yup, the dreaded fall. I am petrified to go to the doctor as I am sure I did something to the prosthesis. I haven't told anyone as I've been so scared...thus the depression.

WHen my knees were so unstable and painful after the prednisone fiasco, i turned quickly and my knee gave out and down I went...on to my knees. Now my knees are sore, my groin is sore, and my leg is a bit sore.

I am off to the NP today for a recheck on the new BP med but I can ask for an x-ray. I have been too scared to call the OS. I see him on the 19th of October anyway.

I can walk ok so it may just be shaken up but not with my luck. SO there, now you know why I have been isolating...like a hurt animal.

Fingers crossed I am ok. This is not what I need right now...:hate-shocked:

Re: This is my story

Oh no Janet! You really don't need that.

However, you don't need me to tell you that you have to find out what damage you've done. The 19th October's a long way away and with any luck an x-ray will confirm that there's no damage done.

Thinking of you.

Re: This is my story

Janet Sure Get it checked. But for some reassurance--my friend fell on the bathroom floor in the hospital first night of surgery! Had Cscan and no harm done at all---she is doing great 5 weeks out now.

Re: This is my story

Janet, I have been worried about you. Now I understand the silence but please do get things checked out just in case. And do let us know how you are doing. :friends:

Re: This is my story

Janet so good to hear from you. I'm so sorry about your fall. I hope you get an x-ray of it so you will know things are okay and nothing has happened.

Re: This is my story

Aww, Janet. You must be terrified. We all live in terror of the "fall". But Janet, you cannot wait three weeks to have it checked out. Please request that x-ray from you NP. It may even relieve your fears. Three weeks is a long time to be dreading the worst.
Please take the advice you would be giving to everyone else. Take care of yourself.
Sending best wishes.

Re: This is my story

I'm back. The NP didn't think ax X-ray was necessary as she checked me out really good. She did offer one but I declined. I think I just gave everything a good jarring as I went down hard. I feel so much better just having told everyone about it. What a dummy, but i was sooooo scared.

Well, I have the EMG next Friday and see the OS on the 12th now as I was able to get the appointment moved up. Gee, aways something. I have been so careful as I've been petrified of falling.:hate-shocked:.

Guess these implants are one with the bone after this amount of time and I am walking fine, if not a tad sore. I'll be fine. Thank for caring.

Re: This is my story

Good news Janet for a wee change well kind of, you be extra careful and take good care of yourself. :console:

Re: This is my story

Janet....I'm glad you realized that your implant is just fine. It's durn near impossible to "jar" it loose....just doesn't happen that way. But....you can really hurt soft tissue with a fall and, as you said, I'm sure that's what's happened. Here's hoping you bounce back soon.

Now.....start hunting for a good source for bubble wrap, would you?:th_heehee:

Re: This is my story

Oh yes ...I forgot that I kept injuring myself while on the darn prednisone! Gee, these falls really are scary. The inner thigh/groin area is the most sensitive now, but I can move everything ok. Wonder what it takes to disturb the cup? I hate to even think of the impact on the prosthesis with a fall...

I have really worried about the other members that I knew took a tumble, you and Jo included, but it really put me into a deep depression as I was trying to get my head abover water from the other medical issues that were going on.

Funny how priorities change at any given moment . Right now I am going to focus on the EMG and what the OS has to say. The Rheumatologist is exploring what may have been going on earlier, so I'm not going to touch that for now.

I think whatever bit me sent this whole thing spinning out of control and the prednisone just added to the problem.

And NanL., I meant to resond to you regrding RA. I have never been told that I have RA although thae Rheumatologist did test for it, along with pretty much every other autoimmune disease he could think of.

The jury is still out on what the heck type of flare up I did have, but it wasn't fun for sure...
