Re: This is my story

You know--someone could be praticing good medicine but if the patient is feeling left out and confused, the stress and annoyance are problems in themselves. Communication and empathy are important emotional factors in patient care--at least to me as a consumer of health care.

Poorly managed practices are a pain in the butt to a patient--you know--the ones where time of appt. mean nothing (allowing for emergencies), where lab results are not reported in a clear and timely manner, when one feels unimportant and disregarded and more like a "disease" than a person---where access is limited even in urgent situations--where grunts and terse answers take the place of logical user friendly explanation--and on and on---

You are important Janet--and deserving of and entitled to certain rights and expectations as a patient! :cat-kittyandsmiley:

Re: This is my story

I think one of the problems, I am finding over the last year plus, is the Doctors' offices are going paperless. And often you walk out with nothing in your hand. And until your insurance sends you an explanation of benefits, you are at a loss. And still may be at a loss if you are sent home paperless.

Another issue I had is similar to Janet's. I went to Emory and the Doctor was great. Emory hasn't gone paperless yet. Doc said I had osteoporosis. I said, I don't have osteoporosis, He said, yes you do.

Went for a bone density. I waited and waited to hear back. Wasn't that worried. Got the bill 6 weeks later. Thought, well, I'd like to know what the test said. So I call, get his nurse. She finds the Doctor, she comes back to the phone, and said he said the test looks great. Great? What's great? So I don't know if I have it or not. But it looks great. I'd of thought I'd been sent a letter with the results.

Re: This is my story

Oh I got the letter with the lab results! Had a " smiley face" sticker pasted right beside the NP's name! Just didn't get the explanation of the results.

Dr. Rheumatologist thought it was strange! Smiley face with no explanation of good or bad results...:skeptical:

Guess the smile was for the payment they will get from the insurance company :loll:...

Re: This is my story

Boy, I feel fortunate here in Kansas. Our doctors and hospitals are all going paperless, but you are always provided a result of the appointment when you leave. In fact, I usually beef because they give so MUCH stuff....repeat the meds I take each visit with each doctor.

Guess I shouldn't complain, huh.

Re: This is my story

Feeling your frustration Janet, as I keep up with your story. Not really a lot I can say that others haven't said already but you are in my thoughts. Keeping everything crossed for you.(((((( hugs))))))

Re: This is my story

Hi Janet, I've been offline for the past week so have only just caught up with what is happening to you and am horrified. I do hope and pray you will soon be feeling better and have a definitive answer to what is going on. Take great care, love and hugs xxxx

Re: This is my story

Hi Janet, I have been reading through all of your story, I just want to send all my good wishes, you are going through so much!! I sincerely hope you get some positive answers soon
Linda xx.

Re: This is my story

:blush::blush: I have to confess that I was so upset on Saturday that I ended up drinking a bottle of wine! No excusses. I have been beating myself up ever since.

I think I just cracked between the on going pain and the disappointment with my GP, as well as my aunt's passing. So, I apologize if I was a jerk...

In any event, I should have an answer tomorrow, fingers crossed...

Re: This is my story

Janet, I've been following your story and I SO hope you get answers soon. I find it amazing that your doctors know you are suffering and they have been blowing you off. NO EXCUSE!!
(By the way, when I was going through my "stuff", an occasional "Bottle of Wine, Fruit of the Vine" did help!)
:cheers_wine:
I'm thinking of you,
Caroline

Re: This is my story

Awwwww, Janet. No apology needed. You have been so determined and patient through all of this...I don't know how you do it!!! I do hope you get some answers too, though!

Re: This is my story

Dont beat yourself up over a bottle of wine, sometimes we all need some anasthetic, especially with what you are going through. It is just being human.
Hope you get some answers tomorrow.
Linda.

Re: This is my story

I agree Janet - no need to beat yourself up! You have been through so much. Of course you need some way to relax!

Looking forward to your update today!

Re: This is my story

A glass of wine or 2 every once in a while is very therapuetic on so many levels. Sorry to hear you are not feeling very well at all. I am praying for answers for you. I have found in todays medical world you have to be your own advocate. You know something is wrong you have symptoms and lab values to back you up, do not feel like a hypochondriac. Are you going to a major teaching hospital? I know I had a big problem a few years back and the community hospital kept telling me it was basically in my head.I would look for a new GP. Please let us know it really helps to vent about the frustrations of it all.

Re: This is my story

Janet we are always being urged to make sure we have our 5 portions per day of fruit and veg. I think your bottle of wine must be in that category, think of all the fruit in it!

Re: This is my story

:hysterical: That was the best answer yet! Well, I am NOT supposed to drink at all, and especially while taking percocet :secretaea:. I just cracked, especially after having words wih my GP! Poor Bill, he didn't know what to do...

There is no excuse though :sigh:...I have been beating myself up ever since.

I sit here a nervous wreck today waiting for "THE CALL". Part of me just wants to run and hide under the covers, and another part is screaming DEAL WITH IT!

I'll let you all know as soon as I hear. I am so tired of hurting. There has to be an answer.

Geeze, I hope they don't blow me off on this too...

Re: This is my story

I don't think they will blow you off, after all you finally are dealing with the specialist who seems to care and know what they are doing. That GP office of yours is another thing. Time to get rid of them and find a different one.

I hope you get well deserved answers and then can proceed with a treatment plan to get yourself feeling much better Janet !!

Re: This is my story

I hope you get your call today! But the way they've been acting, I wonder.

About the wine, don't beat yourself up over it. :friends:

Re: This is my story

Janet....maybe you shouldn't wait and just call them instead.

Re: This is my story

Well, just don't let yourself sit and stew, you know. You WANT to know what's going on so you can start working on it and go forward. Remember the "information is power" chant we always do? It applies here too. You've worked hard to get to this point. Keep that determination to get to the bottom of things going.
