Re: This is my story

Goes to google ESR

That's all a bit odd isn't it Janet? Sounds like they may be getting closer to the source of the problem - I do hope so.

Re: This is my story

It just gets me really ticked off that I have had to get sicker and sicker and make a ton of noise to get listened to! For heaven's sake, you would think being hospitalized with a fever of 103.7 may be a clue that I am still not right!

Well, I may never be right :rolleyespink:, but I do bring them a lot of $$$ so if they'd rather some other practice makes the $$$ off of me, there are plenty around!

I sent my GP an email last night and am waiting to here back from her. I am going to let her know that I am pretty unhappy that when you are REALLY sick you must see the NP as it takes days or weeks to see her.

What is wrong with this system? The doctor is too busy, with what? It takes almost a year to schedule an appointment with her for a physical, so I scheduled an appointment with her "to chat" and it took three months for that!

I could go on and on, but I must admit, the specialist yesterday wasn't smiling over all this nonsense. It is clearly in my labs that I am sick. If I didn't have an inferiority complex before, I think I do now :hissyfit:...

Re: This is my story

Janet, I don't understand this either.

My ob-gyn is on about a 6 month waiting list. Only reason I go is for referral for mammogram. And since 5 years ago, her office moved into a multi-million dollar facility at the hospital office buildings, mostly funded by the heart guys.

What's wrong with the old way? Apparently the new way doesn't work. It's like herding cattle. Or being in a megachain store. Check out in window # 3. When I went up there last time, all the Moms had their kids running around. It was like a zoo.

It's so ridiculous. I know my Doc grandfather is rolling in his grave. I'll take the old way any day.

Re: This is my story

It's the same in the UK.
Find a good GP and they will always be difficult to see.
Find a lousy one and you can see them any time you like!

Sorry you have more waiting to do Janet.
But they are getting closer to the problem.
And I do understand your anger. This should have been looked at long ago.

(and I googled ESR too and there's an awful lot about rheumatics on there...)

Re: This is my story

ESR shows inflammation and my red counts are all mixed up as well. So, something is definately going on, he just doesn't know what...yet.

What kind of doctor is this a witch doctor you have been pushed about from pillar to post for god knows how long and he just doesn't know. [Sue Them ]

As Suzie says I really hope they are getting close to the problem.
I have three surgeries within two miles of each other, I suppose the USof A is a tad larger.

Re: This is my story

Well, after somewhat losing it this afternoon with the Medical Assistant at my GP's office, I got a rather snitty note back that they suspect a Fibromyalgia type Syndrome but are awaiting all the lab results that the Rheumatologist ran yesterday. Wow!

Are you kidding me? Now, after everything else is messed up, including my labs, they are pretty much saying it is all in my head? Mind you, I know FM is in fact an illness, but I'm not buying this at all.

My daughter thinks it is time I look for a new group of doctors as this one is just at a loss so planting any lable on it. Brilliant! Try to sue for anything in the US and I found out that unless the doctor kills you, you can forget about it.

Well, hopefully I hear from the Rheumatologist first on Monday as the labs don't lie and I will take it from there.

I am totally embarrassed that I just posted this after feeling so ill for so long now. They think I am a NUT! If I wasn't mad before, I sure am now...but, I had to tell you guys what the latest is...

Re: This is my story

Swelling isn't in your head. Neither are rashes. Look elsewhere until you find your answers. I know easier said than done. But really, I think it's something you must do. So sorry you keep reaching roadblocks. But somewhere, there's an answer!:yes 4:

Re: This is my story

I guess i was just hopeful that they would find "something". Not that i was hoping for the something to be bad, just tell me why all that was happening was happening!

Geeze, I had a 103.7 degree temperature, among other things. Did I imagine that? Did I NOT get a bug bite? Is anything connected? I know some people are very sick with FM, but even with taking the test for FM, I DON'T have those symptoms!

I am really PO'd! I have no faith in my doctors at all anymore. My daughter and you Helen are absolutely right. Time to move on....

Re: This is my story

So, I've been "Googling" most of the day for FMish things, and one that does sort of fit the bill is Polymyalgia Rheumatica. Never heard of it before, but now that I've got the attention of the troops, I might as well arm myself with some knowledge.

I also had to laugh looking back on the appointment yesterday with Dr. Rheumatologist. He asks very seriously "You take ecstacy"? to which I reply, "NO! I take extra C!" we both had a good laugh. See how easily things can be misunderstood... ..... :hysterical:

Re: This is my story

Janet, have you been checked for West Nile Virus? Don't panic. I don't even know the symptoms. But there were two new spots found in Atlanta today in standing water places in the city. Just a thought. I would guess the CDC would have a map of where it's active. I know that's far fetched. Just thinking.

I'll try to check it later if I can get rid of this splitting headache.

Okay, well you may want to look at it on CDC. My Brother had it a few years ago. And he's fine now. Know it was rough bit of time. He's perfectly healthy other than HBP, and is fine as ever now. But fever is one of the symptoms.

Re: This is my story

West Nile has just been found this week in neighboring cities. It "could" be anything Helen, for sure. Problem is, by the time they get it sorted I will be fine...or :thud:

I'm sure not fine right now. I am in sooooooo much pain that I had to get out of bed and could barley get down the thirteen steps to my first floor. My knees are the worse, but my ankles are becomming a very close second.

What is causing all this pain? The Oxycodone isn't working on it as it is inflammation. But, my anti-inflammatory, Mobic, isn't touching it either.

Hope your headache is gone...:friends:

Re: This is my story

Janet, I've come to believe that it is not easy to diagnose your problems (or mine). My anti inflammatories didn't work (except for my lower back pain), percocet didn't work, prednisone not successful so far. Again, hang in there.

Re: This is my story

Janet, I know you are PO'd with the 'possible FM' suggestion and understand why.
But as you've discovered, once you get past the stereotyping, FM is a very real, chronic disease and personally, I think that the links to depression, etc are often because FM is debilitating and frustrating to treat, so some patients who have FM get depressed, anxious, etc. Not the other way around.

However, the FM'ish thing, Polymyalgia Rheumatica does look like it could be the candidate, so here's hoping it's up for consideration by your doc and/or Rheumatologist.

It appears that there are treatments for FM and Polymyalgia Rheumatica. Llike many recently-discovered illnesses, it's still a 'try it and see' game, but once they know what they are looking for, they should be able to find something to help you with the pain....surely...?

Then of course there is the treatment with Prednisone, especially for Polymyalgia Rheumatica. Which kind of brings you back full circle to where this all kicked off....

As to the insect/bug bite, it could be unrelated.
There were some particularly nasty bugs about this summer, all over the world it seems.
And the temperature.... that could be the result of either.

But of course, what do I know? I'm not a medic.
Just trying to add my thoughts (take them or leave them) at a very painful, frustrating time for you.
And because I worry about you! :friends:

Re: This is my story

I totally agree with what you just posted Suzie. And as I found out from having tried them already, the medication to treat FM is Lyrica and Neurontin (Pregablin and Gabapentin) both of which make me swell.

The prednisone may have set this off but, like in Renate's case, they give such small doses of it to RA and PR patients, will it take the pain away? I can not take much more of this pain. Pretty soon I will not be able to walk.

I value your opinion Suzie, and I am not a medical person either, but was a surgical buyer, and medicine has always been of interest to me. My new Rhuematologist was pleased that I was so on top of my health issues.

Re: This is my story

Janet Loads of good wishes once again--I guess you will have to wait until Tues. with the holiday?? I know you probably don't need more suggestions--but you do have us all with our thinking caps on--Lyme disease???

Re: This is my story

uh huh...been tested twice, it can take up to or beyond a month to get an accurate reading. I am waiting for 9/25 for the final on that one...

Re: This is my story

Janet - I agree 100%. Time to move on to a new doc! And no - it's not "just in your head". Sorry but you can make up all the pain and swelling! Sure hope you get some answer soon!

Re: This is my story

Yup, I think I'll keep the Rheumatologist, but I don't care much for how this has been handled by the GP & NP. I certainly know that everyone is entitled to vacation time, but when you get lost in the meanwhile, no thanks.

I have given that practice a ton of $$$ and expect a little consideration in return. They have become too big for my liking. That's fine as long as you are not sick !

Re: This is my story

I think you need a fresh set of eyes - not someone who continues to downplay your symptoms. Unfortunately it happens alot.

Just stick to your guns Janet! You deserve proper care!

Re: This is my story

Yes, I agree. And I never saw this Rheumatologist before, except for in intake appointment pertaining to the ongoing thigh pain. That was in early July.

So in a way that's a good thing, because he saw me when I was feeling like Wonder Woman while on the prednisone. Now he saw the hurting me on Friday...big, big change in everything!

Funny though, while looking at my records online, he made a comment as how my GP was so on top of things. Too bad she wasn't communicating any of this to me...what's up with that?

I would expect a phone call if my labs seemed strange, wouldn't you?
