Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Yes, it does go up past the knee. Actually while in the hopital it first presented at groin area of right thigh. Very hot and red! That has cleared, but the ankle on same leg is what you see...quite sore.

The knee of opposite leg is very sore if I bend it at all. I am taking 2, 5/325mg percocet, every 4-6 hours. I should hear tomorrow on the bone scan. Most labs are back, but some not until 8/11.

I can't believe this happened and ruined my get together with Celeste (C4Horses) and her daughter. But, I can't walk, never mind fish ! Sorry Ci...

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

So sorry to hear about this all happening to you Janet !! You are always there for everyone and seem to be just going through the ringer these days. Just not fair !!! I know you were really looking forward to this visit with Celeste and just having a great time.

Take care of yourself, we depend on you. :cat-kittyandsmiley:

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Hi All, well,I spent another 4 hours in the ER today and the jack donkey doctor wouldn't keep me!
My GP told me to go to get more IV antibiotics ( she is quite concerned :hate-shocked:) as the swelling in my legs is TERRIBLE! I had to use my crutch to come down stairs this morning, and last night could barely get up them to go to bed.!

What a jerk! I could say a lot, but I won't as I'd be banned forever from BoneSmart! I can barely bend my legs now as the swelling is in my knees too! I weight 10 pounds more than usual :thud:and I am hurting!

I am most definately writing a letter to the CEO! I do have an appt. with my GP on Friday, but I think she really wanted me inpatient. She saw me on Monday and told me so! SO much for OUR health care here in the US! OH, DON'T GET ME STARTED!

Anyway, here I sit with legs elevated and swollen worse than ever...:sigh:

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Why couldn't your GP admit you through ER, I know here if a GP wants you admitted, they send you to ER and they call the ER and say they are having a patient admitted?

That is just horrible !!!

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I agree, Janet. It is usually the doctor's call about admittance, not the hospital's. Is that the only hospital where your GP has privileges??? Maybe you could go to another one.

I would give your GP a call tomorrow and see if she can write an order for you to be admitted.

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Oh my god Janet, this is horrible. My heart goes out to you. This sounds like a very bad infection. Why don't you phone your doctor first thing in the morning and raise hell? If it gets worse tonight, why not go to another ER? You're in my thoughts.

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Yes, she only has privileges there. I though I did it right. I told them that she said to go there! That idiot said he had seen worse and that I should be seeing her at her office! I told him about the IV antibiotics that she wanted! I also waited in the waiting area for 3 hours and then got the bums rush out of the exam room after they did an AKG and labs!

Real nice bed side manner! Also told him that I saw her Monday and got out of hospital on Friday...I am writing a letter to the CEO. My blood counts are getting lower still...

I don't know why she didn't call ahead. Maybe she did? The place is a joke! Perhaps she only thought I needed the IV meds  ? In any event, I see her Friday if I'm still on this side of the grass :arghh:

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Janet - I agree - you need your GP to get you admitted before Friday. Please call her today - don't wait.

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Well Jaycey, it hurts too much to walk. My lower legs look much better this morning as I took an extra 10mg of Lasix last night :secretaea:. I couldn't help it. If no one will help me, I have to help myself.

I am sure my GP will call me today, after the scathing note that I wrote about the ER. I will fess up then. Right now, it is my feet that hurt. I am going to stay with them elevated and only get up for potty trips.

I know that eveythings drains downward, so my feet will be the last to get back to normal. Bill will be way too busy to drive me today, after wasting yesterday as well, so tomorrow is fine with me.

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Janet, when I had cellulitis, I spent almost all day on my adjustable bed with the leg end up and extra pillows on it so my feet weren't just "toes above nose" but "toes above head"! It was the only time I was anywhere near comfortable. Trouble was, when I put my feet down on the floor, the rush of blood and fluid into the lower legs and feet made it feel like they were going to burst!

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Yup! That is exactly what I have Jo! But, being on the Lasix, I have to keep going to the potty. So, as soon as I get everything all set with feet up...:DOH:you guessed it.

Back to the floor and all the swelling xomes right back :hissyfit:!

Just spoke with my GP's PA...they are NOT real happy about what happened yesterday. Can't wait to see them tomorrow...

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

My goodness Janet!
I'm away for a while and all hell is breaking loose with you!
I've only been able to read a few of your updates on this thread as I'm on a 'dongle' that hasn't much credit (not at home right now), but from what I have read things are just terrible for you (after going well for a while). I'm so sorry. :sigh:
Sending lots of hugs your way :friends::friends::friends: and hoping someone sorts this all out for you soon. You really shouldn't have to put up with this!

Suzie :friends:

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Oh thank you! I have wondered where you disappeared to! I missed you! How are you doing? Yes, it has been "an experince" for sure.

THAT WHICH DOESN'T KILL YOU MAKES YOU STRONGER, as the saying goes...

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Hi all. Well, saw my GP today and she is still very concerned that I may still have Babesiosis or Lyme Disease. It really hurts to touch my ankle that is still a bit red and swollen from the fly bite and the opposite knee as well.

The extra Lasix has taken care of most of the swelling, as well as keeping my feet raised above my head (thanks Jo :wink1:). She is also concerned about my thyroid :DOH:because of the swelling beneath my chin.

Apparently you can get a false lab report so soon after a bug bite, and it can take a few weeks to get the true, accurate results. My GP is VERY thorough and will get to the bottom of this.

In the meanwhile, thank God I've got my crutches as climbing stairs is very painful. The good news is that this has had no effect on my THR :yes 4:!

So, ultrasound on my thyroid Monday...here we go again...:rolleyespink:

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Hey Janet, hope they get to the bottom of this soon!! Hope you feel better soon too. So sorry you are going through this.

Helen

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Oh man Janet. That's serious stuff. Sure hope you get things resolved quickly!

Take care my friend. We are rooting for you!

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Janet

So angry to hear all the nonsense you have had to experience regarding this! I suppose it could be Lymes Disease, my eldest contracted it from a tick bite whilst out hillwalking about 5 years ago. His leg swelled up and he was immediately admitted for mega IV antibiotics followed by discharge and oral antibiotics. Hope this makes you smile: I have been paranoid about ticks for years, sheep and deer ticks are a common issue for us and for most dog owners. After every trip out on the hills, one of my poor boys has to check my body - the bits I can't see for the little horrors! Very undignified, at least they can check each other! My personal first aid kit contains 2 sizes of special tick removers! I hope you get to the bottom (ticks love this area!) of this as soon as possible and that you receive the best possible treatment. Good on you for persisting with highlighting the faults of the system too - never be a doormat! X

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Hi Janet so sorry you're having such a scary rough time, best wishes for a speedy recovery. Interestingly 3 friends in the past 4 weeks have been admitted to hospital for similar reactions to yours ( none of them has had any surgeries) Two were bitten on elbow and one on the leg. Horsefly bite in each case. The little devils seem to be particularly nasty this year! Resting and elevation seems to have been stressed as part of the recovery process.
All the best
Anne
all the best

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Janet can't believe how much you have went through lately, once it is all over you should get yourself out for a night out a couple of friends.
Or better still pay for all of us to come over for a nice night out with everyone from bonesmart. :thumb:

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Oh! If only forbesy! Wouldn't it be grand! We would have a blast...perhaps end up in jail, LOL! In any event, the swelling has subsided quita a bit, but I am still very sore!

My ankle, half way up my lower leg, hurts to the touch. My knee on the other leg as well as the ankle hurt to climb the stairs. SO the fluid/infection is still in the joints.

beesquare, I never saw what bit me, but I think you are right about a horsefly or a green head fly. I didn't remember because the NP kept asking if I got a "BUG" bite, and that made me think tick or spider.

I was so medicated in the hospital I never remembered the fly bite...

Catherine, I never saw a tick on me, so I doubt it was a tick, and I do remember a fly bite.

In any event, I am on two weeks of Doxycycline twice a day. And I'm sure there will be more labs to follow, once she gets the results of the current ones.

She said (my GP) that with bites like this it can take up to a month to get an accurate lab result.

Helen andJjaycey, thanks for your kind words and concern.

You guys are the best :wub2: :grouphug2: !
