MUA My LTKR journey continues to RTKR<

Tomorrow morning at 5am I will be back at the hospital where this whole journey started back in March. I have made the decision to have a MUA on the right knee even though I have been able to get to 90 degrees. I only have several weeks left for my STD. I have to be able to perform my job in order to go back. Thankfully my manager is letting me start back with office management first. I'll be calling customers, tele conferences, emails etc and can do it from my home office. Doing that will put me half pay and half disability pay and stretch my time a little. However I need to be able to travel by Sept 20.

This was a really hard decision for me to make. If this had been the first knee I would not choose to do it now but give it time. I do believe that I would get there, I'm just not sure when. But I don't have that liberty of time anymore. My last day of work was March 21! That's so crazy hard to believe! Thanks @KarriB for the links.

My walking is painfully slow and I mean slow. Even with bad knees I was an extremely fast walker. Obviously I can't do stairs and my gait isn't good as I hike that right hip. I'm am so praying and hoping that this helps. I have to admit that I am scared, I mean really scared or nervous or whatever it is. I just don't want to do something to make it worse. I try and stay away from sugar but was rummaging the cabinets to see if I can find ingredients to make cookies or something. I may have to send DH out to find something really sinful to eat!

I'll update tomorrow as I can. It's scheduled for 730 and not sure when I leave but I would think fairly soon, surely before lunch. I feel like I am nesting like I did before my replacements. Laundry done, vacuumed, etc.:scare::prayer::spin::fingersx:

I hope your MUA goes well and you get the ROM that you need. I can only imagine how you must be feeling. Best wishes and prayers for you.

((Becky)) - sending good energy for you tonight and tomorrow. You made a good decision for you and I hope you can have a restful night tonight - after a little sugar binge of course. Rest lots over the next several days so you take take advantage of the increased ROM.We'll look forward to hearing from you after you are home and resting tomorrow. :console2:

Becky, I'll be thinking about you tomorrow and hoping the MUA works like a charm. You have to do what is best for you. Keep us posted as we will wait anxiously to hear!
All the best! Helen

Take it nice and easy when you get home from the MUA and for a few weeks. There could be swelling from forcing the soft tissue during the MUA and you know what the swelling does. To get the most of the MUA; ice, elevate, rest, medicate.
:elevate:

(((Becky))) sending BIG HUGS, <<<Calming Vibes>>> and prayers your way! :praying:Trust in your decision and try to get some decent beauty rest tonight. :angel:By all means, indulge in some sweets; if not now, when?

Look forward to hearing from you tomorrow!:console2:

wishing you all the best Becky. you have all the tools now to recover the best and most comfortable way possible. do you have to fast after midnight? enjoy those cookies and let us know how you make out. :fingersx:

Thanks everyone for the support! Yes I have to fast after midnight. I made the oatmeal no bake cookies. You know, those wonderful gooey chocolatey things? I ate four of them. They weren't tiny either, it was wonderful eating but tummy has sugar overload!

I hope to sleep but historically with no stress I don't sleep well. Maybe I can make up for it tomorrow while I ice and elevate!:ice:

Good luck tomorrow Becky! I'm sure it will go great! I'm so glad you opted for chocolate. I would have done the same! :)

After my infection surgery the only thing that tasted good was chocolate covered pretzels from a nearby chocolatier. Yum! Have a few no bakes while icing, elevating, resting this afternoon.

Hi everyone, so I am sure I have a drug induced euphoria! This is so different from my normal reaction to the heavy narcs, I usually cry. I am feeling quite fine if I do say so.

I had my MUA this morning. He took a picture of my knee bending back to my bottom and showed it to my husband. He said that I did have some adhesions he had to break up and that he didn't think I would have got there on my own when I needed to. I had 20 of OxyContin before and 2 of morphine in recovery. I did wake up with about a 4-5 pain. I have very minimal pain now.

I got home and had an hour before I had to leave for my first PT. I iced and elevated for the hour. On my discharge papers it said the dreadful words, "aggressive PT". I know all of you know how that made me feel. My therapist, Monika is amazing. She said all we are doing the first week is gentle stretching. Heel slides which she now calls "throne slides" since I discovered the bathroom tile measure trick. She also had me do the bike. Please don't get alarmed. This was gentle rotations with no resistance. That was it, all the rest of the time was the best massage ever!

So she did go ahead and measure me and got 105 flexion. My best before was 90 really pushing it. My extension has been 0 since day one. I was happy with the progress, ok ecstatic is a better descriptor. :happydance::yes!::dancy::spin:I was sure I would be back to the cane or possibly even the walker. I did use the cane getting in the house as I felt a little unstable. After a bit I was fine and steady and not using it now. I have an open mind if I need it.

I understand this euphoria I'm in will go away soon when all the meds wear off. I think I will have some pretty strong pain but I figure I've been doing all this since March, I can handle it! What I am thrilled about is it's not like starting over. I have my strength and stamina I had yesterday. Now it's not necessarily something to write home about but it's getting better each week. So far I feel very positive and thankful!:yes!::wowspring:

I have been icing and elevating since I got home from PT. I think I'm going to shut my IPad and enjoy some drug induced sleep that I don't normally get. I was watching a House of Cards last night at 2 am. I had to get up at 4 but just couldn't settle down. Hopefully I won't bounce off the walls for a bit, see you when I wake up!

What a great report Becky - sounds like the MUA was a resounding success for you. Enjoy your nap -- I know you need it - noticed you were posting late into the night last night and mighty early this morning! You are on the right path for a great recovery.:roseshwr:

Sounds like clear sailing for you so far. So happy to hear you're doing so well!

I'm glad you're feeling good about the MUA and really glad your PT is going to be gentle.

Great news! I am glad that everything went well for you and hope you are getting some good sleep!
