MUA My LTKR journey continues to RTKR<

I am coming in late on this, but please know you can come here anytime and pour out your honest feelings. We get it. Love the Harper elevation photo and I agree as well there may be something to why your newest knee is having a slower recovery and being able to spend time with Tara and Harper. Yes to the silver lining!

Becky, it's so good to see you're feeling a bit better today; yay! I still haven't decided on a pool, but I'm working on it. Soon, we'll be splashing together, lol!

I thought I would give an end of week update. I survived three days in a row of baby duty. As much as I love helping with Harper, it was good knee wise to have a two day break. I came home with lots of swelling each night. I'm back again Tomorrow for another day. That sweet little baby is a doll baby though!

Seems like maybe it was the week for bad sleeping and also just being tired of all this! I read quite a few of the same feelings. Is it the weather or what? I was so busy with Tara and Harper there wasn't time to think but I told DH yesterday that I just want to wake up and not think about my knees first thing. I've been doing this since March and I rather sick and tired of the merry go round and I thought no it's time to get off!! Anyone want to jump off with me?? Seriously I have to really try and not think about it because it's discouraging. I call this the summer of my knees when someone asks what I did this summer!

I am really nervous about the MUA on Wed and how far that will set me back. Is it like starting over?? I've been stuck at 90 for weeks but running out of time since this is the second knee. I can't walk like this and work. I won't tell you how I look but I bet most of you know.

I have slept terrible for several nights this week. It wasn't so much pain but so restless. Almost what I think restless legs would feel like but not sure. I absolutely couldn't sleep or settle down. I take a magnesium supplement already which should help with that. Finally last night I took my first bath. I put Epsom salts in and it was a little better last night.

However I'm glad there were no cameras in there for obvious reasons but really cause I wasn't sure how to get out. I never once considered I would have a problem beforehand to come up with a plan. After the first knee when I took a bath it wasn't as challenging. Not the case last night. My tub is a jacuzzi tub and it is a corner tub so it's very large. Large enough to turn over on my knees if I wanted, but certainly didn't want on my two baby knees! I swallowed my pride and called for my DH to help but he was mowing the lawn. Somehow I heaves myself straight up out of that tub safely. Oh the things I never thought about before... maybe I will add getting out of the tub to my fantasy list, that's right up there with putting on my underwear and tying my shoes!

I love taking baths and took them almost every night before my surgery but since then it just is not as comfortable and I don't get the same relaxation from it now. Plus I dread having to get out at the end. I hope by the time the cold weather sets in I will be back to enjoying them again.

Becky,
I'm with you today on being ready for this to be OVER! Maybe it's the moon phase?? So, lets take a breath and think about how wonderful we are going to feel NEXT summer! Baby Harper will be walking along with you and I'll be jumping waves at the beach with my sweet Grand who is my mini me! We are blessed. Without doubt. And these new knees are going to allow us to be active grandmas for many years to come! Ive been in pain since mine was born, almost 7 years! I laid awake at night when I helped take care of her and my daughter ( c section) and wished for someone to take a knife and cut that knee OFF! I get it completely! But, we both know, that IN time, we will be better than new! Cowabunga! Bionic Grandmas!
Big hugs tonite,
Helen

Becky, i'm with you too. Why is it when you want the time to go fast (ie. recovery), it goes slow and vice versa? i'm sure if our knees were very well recovered we'd be complaining that the time is going fast. Well the summer does seem to have gone fast, also the spring (which i missed) but here we are...still, but life does go on. Glad you're getting the chance to help out with baby harper and your daughter. your jacuzzi tub sounds heavenly ~ next time make sure hubby is close by lol!

sorry you're nervous about the m.u.a.; hopefully someone can answer your questions. i don't imagine you'd be anaesthetized for anywhere near as long as the original surgery, so presumably less drugs to recover from initially. you will know how to manage pain and what you'll need for recovery plus your bonesmart support group to cheer you on.:friends:

:upright:OH MY GOODNESS!!!! I just made a complete rotation on the bike forward and no hip lifting. I was getting ready to go to bed and shutting off lights in the room where I have my bike and decided to give it a try again. I did it easily. I've tried this week even and couldn't....I wonder if the massage and working on the hamstrings helped?? My first thought is can I cancel my MUA......:upright:

Thanks for the hugs Helen. That's the thing we have to remember is the end. Our stories aren't over yet, even when we feel like they are.

@liam2015 I know about missing spring too! I started March 22. It's hard to believe I'll be going back to work just around the start of fall. Here's to next spring and summer!

oh my goodness becky ~ if you can do a full rotation on the bike..............maybe this is your knee miracle come true.:prayer: wouldn't that be nice if you could forego the m.u.a.? see how it goes the next few days. wow, wow ~
knee-rah!

I second that kneerah Becky! That's a nice milestone. I hope you can have a restful weekend without too much stress about the MUA. Lots to consider.

Wow, Becky, getting in and out of the bath AND full rotation on the bike? I can't do either! My first thought was also perhaps the MUA is not needed? I tried a *dry-run* with the bathtub with DH on standby a few days ago; no way; pffft. Epic fail! Granted, it's just a basic tub, not a model like yours, but I couldn't even lower myself into it. PT won't even let me try their bike yet, so I've no idea on that score. They said something about flexion needing to be around 100-110 for cycling and last I knew, I was at 94.

Check out @dvannies thread; she just had an MUA and she also has some other interesting info there. @Mister also had an MUA and I'm sure both would be happy to discuss it with you.

I had many nights where I seriously thought I'd developed Restless Leg Syndrome. As @Polkadot says, she feels like a Rotisserie chicken all night; aargggh!

This is certainly "The Summer That Wasn't," for so many here, but for you and anyone else that had staged knees from Spring until Summer, it's just way too long. Of course you want this to be over, but at least you're in good company here. Group wail, anyone?

Hmm.?. full rotation. Wow. !
How about you ask your doc? Does s/he have a bike at the practice? You could show him/her.
Seriously... if you can do that, maybe you won't need that procedure.
On someone else's thread he or she wrote that by accident she got more ROM before a MUA bc he or she had to climb high on to the truck to get something and then it happened: knee bent all the way and from then on, no ROM problems.

My doctors eyes lit up and was happy when I told her I was riding my stationary bike. She said that means I am well on my way!

I visited with an old college friend this week. Her sister accidentally gave herself an MUA when she slipped in the backyard after her TKR. We called it an MWA (manipulation without anesthesia). She said it hurt like hell and then she could bend - I wouldn't recommend it though :no-fin:

@becticu - I'm sorry I'm just now getting caught up on your thread.

For me, it did not completely set me back to the beginning, but It definitely did set me back some though. For me it was painful, but for others they're just sore. That may depend on how far it sets you back. Good luck on your MUA!
